Yearwood, a 17-year-old junior at Cromwell High School, is one of two transgender high school sprinters in Connecticut, transitioning to female.
She recently finished second in the 55-meter dash at the state open indoor track championships. The winner, Terry Miller of Bloomfield High, is also transgender and set a girls state indoor record of 6.95 seconds. Yearwood finished in 7.01 seconds and the third-place competitor, who is not transgender, finished in 7.23 seconds.
Miller and Yearwood also topped the 100-meter state championships last year, and Miller won the 300 this season.

So if Lance Armstrong was a woman, this would be toots cool, right? I’m getting so confused with this horsecrap, I thought we were supposed to be helping women gain self esteem in sports. remember, women didn’t like gym, title IX, blah, blah.? What an amazing and yet dumb time to be alive.
Just go with the ‘XX or ‘XY’ [sport name] championship meaning that only people with those sets of chromosomes can compete. After the event, you change the name to ‘womens’, ‘girls’, ‘mens’ blah blah blah.
I have yet to hear a good reason why there can’t be a third category – transgender. It’s really the only way to make competitions of strength and speed fair for XX-women. The only arguments I hear against this rather obvious solution are based on emotions and really bad reasearch on biological sex differences (Lysenko levels of bad science). If put to a real world test, top transwomen athletes will beat top natural born women athletes in virtually all physical competitions, except in a one or two isolated sports like gymnastics (perhaps).
In fact, putting in a transgender category would prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that XY-transwomen have a biological advantage over XX-women. Pretty much all (99%+l XY-transwomen winners would beat XX-women winners. World records for XY-transwomen would beat world records for XX-women. Indisputable proof of a biological advantage for transwomen athletes.
Destroying athletic opportunities and athletic scholarships for all women and girls to cater to a small group of transwomen is bizarre when there’s a better option – women, men and a new transgendered athletic categories. Fairness for everyone.
The issue of ‘is there biological differences between men and women or women and transwomen?’ is the perfect litmus test to do a first level separation of a person, group or institution’s credibility on other matters. If a politician, journalist, academic or expert cannot admit that there’s biological differences between men and women or women and transwomen then you can completely disregard anything else they say. They are either liars, morons or cowards.
They can have their own competition. Call it the Psychiatric Disorder Games.
The more I watch the transgender movement, particularly transwomen —- the more I agree with you that they have significant mental health and personality disorders. The libertarian in me hates it that you might be right.

The simple reason is economics. Barely anyone watches women’s sports to begin with, a transgender category would attract neither sponsorships nor viewers, and couldn’t raise enough money to pay their own stadium fees. There also aren’t enough transgender competitors to support their own league.

Tennis is the only sport where women make comparable money to men, so yes tennis will be the battleground since any male in the top 200 can beat the best females. So some day a dude barely making a living will decide to transition to a big payout.
What are the requirements? Do you have to be taking hormones or have surgery planned, or can you just suggest that you are now female?
Also, watch out for golf. Any man in the top 200 of tennis can beat the best females? I’m pretty sure any guy on the Canadian tour – which is like one step below the Web.com tour, which is one step below the PGA – can blow away any of the women on the same course.
Navratilova is being abused because she suggested only someone who transitioned pre puberty should be allowed. So I would assume the activists probably want you to be able to transition back and forth on a whim. Become female for the tournament and transition back. Golf would be another target – just not as lucrative as tennis for the ladies.

I haven’t followed this debate that closely. The pc establishment went all pro-transgender the last couple of years, going so far as to bait and isolate those conservatives willing to speak out against the fad (i. e., the problem of bathrooms, women’s sports).
I am more interested in the sell-out by the younger feminists in academe and the organized left, against women who want privacy in public washrooms and who want fair play in female sports. Much of the sell out, in academe, has to do with getting external government and academic funding. In the promotion ladder, particularly with untenured junior professors, obtaining external funding counts. So if a feminist professor would speak out in favour of privacy in public washrooms and dressing rooms, and in favour of fair play in female sports, she would lose all her external funding. Look what happened to Jordan Peterson when he spoke out, saying he would not use the trans pronoun “xhe”. All of his SSHRCC funding was immediately cut off, this despite that his research work had always received approval in prior years. After all, SSHRCC, as the government social science fundng agency, is corrupt.
What happens, then, to women’s sports? I competed in interscholastic basketball and track and field in high school, and my wife was a star in university javelin, so I actually watch these sports. I have followed the women’s equality movenent in sports, over the past 40 years, and for the most part supported the movement. There has been a huge improvement in female sports from my day of competing in the 1960s. Yet all of this will come to a crashing end if more and more males intrude into women’s athletics. Women’s sports will become a farce.
Most conservatives see the need for populist protest by conservatives, given that the liberal-left holds all the power in social institutions. Here is one area for us to engage in populist protest, to support bathroom privacy and true female sports. Somebody has to speak in favour of teenaged girls in sports, if the elite powers-that-be ignore them.
I spend a lot of time at both boys and girls high school basketball games and tournaments in the winter. Anyone who thinks there’s no biological differences between men and women need only watch HS basketball games. Have the senior boys team line up beside the senior girls team. You’d have to be willfully blind not to see the obvious differences in height and muscle. Then watch them play – senior boys are signifigantly bigger, faster and more aggressive than senior girls. Physically, they’re not even close.
This, the inability to admit the obvious, is why normal people think liberal academics, journalists and politicians are, at best, educated idiots. It destroys their credibility in other areas.

We’ve seen this movie before – Renee Richards in the 1970’s (see link). The irony here that after retiring, Renee coached Martina Navratilova to two Wimbledon titles. As I recall there was the same controversy with Richards which went to the New York Supreme Court.

It seems that the premise behind this kind of situation is that a man who imagines himself to be female whether or not he has surgical alterations, is actually “female” in the eyes of the governing authority of the sport (if not the state). If the actual females in such sports participate under such delusional rules, they are a party to the delusion and consequences. They need to “walk off the field” whenever a faux female is allowed to compete, otherwise they might just as well go co-ed in all sports and all but very few females would likely be able to compete while the delusional males would have to compete with gender-confident males. Individuals free to discriminate, it’s the essence of liberty.
It’s a little trickier in professional sports where you’re making a lot of money.
I’m still waiting for the girls transitioning into guys and setting new records. In the meantime I watch the destruction of female sport with amusement.
