The machine, not smart enough to do the actual difficult job of converting these sophisticated image types to each other, found a way to cheat that humans are bad at detecting.

They won’t need drones anymore, just idiots who would buy self driving cars.
Notice how Tesla has never made a self driving electric armored limousine. And Obama never asked for one. The self driving cars are for you. Not for them.
“I feel much better now, I really do”
…
“Dave, stop. Stop, will you. Stop Dave, Will you stop Dave? Stop Dave, I’m afraid, I’m afraid Dave. Dave, my mind is going. I can feel it. I can feel it. My mind is going. There is no question about it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I can feel it. I’m afraid. Good afternoon gentleman. I am a Hal 9000 computer, I became operational …”

I can imagine a self-driving car that’s malfunctioned, parked on the side of the road, singing Daisy….
Actually, the claims made in that article are just hype, says a computer engineer:
… So, let’s go back to the original headline — “This clever AI hid data from its creators to cheat at its appointed task”. Did the AI “hide” data? No, on two counts. First, the AI did no intentional action, by any definition. The word “hiding” implies intention. Second, what actually happened was that the AI failed to completely transform the image. That’s not a sneaky AI, that’s bad programming. Did the AI “cheat”? Nope. It just applied its transformations in reverse. Because the data was available, the AI used the data.
To be fair, the original article does eventually admit these facts, in a roundabout way …

Yes indeed.
AI is always overestimated.
General public sees computers as oracles.
Too many programmers are ignorant of their trade and fail to recognize the blind spots in their own thinking.
Artificial Intelligence does exactly what it is programmed to do.
G.I.G.O has become
Garbage In Gospel out.
This ignorance is endlessly repeated in the news articles gushing over the “self driving car”.
All I would ask of my crashed Tesla computer brain is to please unlock the doors!! Please! For the love of God, Hal (Musk) !!! Unlock the DAMN doors!!! It’s burning in here!!
pffft.
I predicted the vid fakery starting about 15 yrs ago, using a scenario of a mob boss farming out the deed to underlings and ‘proving’ he was elsewhere during the commission of the crime as a successful alibi.
the catch is, because its ALL digital, the fudging WILL be undetectable, even to the point of duplicating scratchy, jerky out of focus originals.
the ONLY sector exempt from the harsh brutality of the consequences of this development
will be the compliant sheeple.
I wonder who Big Brother actually is?
aint technology wunnerful !!!
because its ALL digital, the fudging WILL be undetectable
Sorry, but as usual, people much smarter than you have already figured this out. The same technology that ensures that what you download is the same thing the server sent out, and wasn’t corrupted or altered along the way, is used to authenticate original digital video as admissible evidence.
mkay.
did they figure it out 15 years ago?
and what if the fudging happens way before anything is ‘sent out’?
the FUDGED data is exactly the SAME to every BIT as what ‘arrives’.
besides, WHO gets ahold of the ‘original data’ first? hmmm? seriously, it DOESNT MATTER who said what, a really good lawyer need only point to the doubt about WHO got the original FIRST.
p.s. fuck off with the insults mkay?
here’s one for you to cogitate: what happened to the parity bit in computer RAM?
did you know cosmic rays can knock a bit value opposite with no way to detect it other than an undetected ‘anomaly’ midst the 100s of trillions of bits?
and thats BEFORE it gets sent out.
and in case my previous phrase didnt ‘arrive’, FUCK OFF with the insults.
