  1. All I have to say is; SUCK IT UNIFOR. Enjoy your time under the bus. No socialist EVER has an ally; only useful idiots to be discarded when the time is right.

    1. Here’s the thing. I agree, no sympathy for Jerry Dias or Unifor, just another loudmouth union boss bully, spewing the usual tripe and rhetoric that union bosses are infamous for. He’s rallying the troops, and by definition, securing his own cushy existence at the expense of the membership. Ol Jerry should have been paying attention to the homefront, instead of schlepping with Chrystia in Washington, eating expensive lunch and dinner on the taxpayers dime during the USMCA talks.
Its the rank and file that we should have some sympathy for, they pay for the poor decisions made by Liberal governments in Cheranna and Ottawa, that scare away businesses and jobs, large and small, by their endless layering of additional taxes, regulations and policies, that eventually destroy the economy.
For those that voted Liberal, this is a hard lesson to learn, by ignoring those that warned them that Liberals are NOT your friend! Who do the Liberals represent in this country anyways? They courted the unions (Posties, Unifor) but have now abandoned them (surprise!) after getting elected. They courted the envirolunatics to get elected, but appear to have backstabbed them (evil pipelines!) as well, once elected.
Who do the Libs represent, other than their corrupt backers and pollyanish supporters? One would think the Libs are very prone to defeat in the next election, if there was an opposition that could divide and conquer, knowing all the cracks in the Lib support that are there for the taking.
The Libs moved 10% during the election campaign, this is far from an impossible change in support, given how many issues can be attacked that Juth-tin and his juveniles are responsible for.

  2. To put it more succinctly; socialist do not under any circumstance make friends. They only use tools, and only Napoleon (‘1984’, Orwell) gets to decide when a tool is no longer useful. When Soros decides anti-free is no longer useful, you will all be rounded up very quickly. Maybe even loaded into cattle cars.

Socialism is always, ALWAYS, a Faustian bargain. Cause you are never the one at the top, and if you are, they are all plotting to replace you. Just ask Stalin, or Mao why they liked purges so much.

    1. “They only use tools, and only Napoleon (‘1984’, Orwell) gets to decide when a tool is no longer useful.”

      Pst… “Animal Farm” not “1984”.

  3. “ Leftist policies have been decimating the oil industry, now they are taking a toll on the auto sector. “

And Unifor supports the leftists doing it, to the hilt. Boy, you have to be dumb to be a union man, these days.

It will be interesting to see how the auto parts industry in Canada responds to these changes. At what point do they just follow suit, and end new Canadian investment?

  4. So uh, hows everyone liking the continuing transition to our Trans National State hmm..?
The Trudeau – Butts Marxist inspired Steam Roller continues….(other), News at 11.

As the BAND (Media), plays on…..nothing to see here.

    1. I am sure we can get some equipment from Russia. We can restart building Lada cars in Canada. It is probably the only car anyone in Canada will have enough Canadian Tire money to afford. Because actual Canadian money will be worthless, but we will all be Billionaires. Toilet paper will cost trillions, however. Enjoy the decline. It is coming faster than you think.

      1. Hey it works for milk, right? Just put 300% tariff on foreign autos and we can have supply managed, Canadian made autos. 300% tariff on foreign oil too.

    2. cgh, good one! And let us not forget the Trabant, pride of East German socialist engineering.

Butts would have us all on bicycles if he could.

      1. I thought it turned out awesome, so awesome in fact that they had to build Sprung greenhouses just to hold all those unsold Bricklins. And, on an unrelated note, didn’t New Brunswick ban fracking? Because why on Earth would a province like New Brunswick want revenue (other than from the Federal government)?

        1. @Steve:
If you read the link, one of the problems leading to the failure of the venture was ‘worker absenteeism’.
That’s embarrassing. However it would have failed anyway.

  5. Apart from the giant bailouts, yes over-government has hurt Ontario competitiveness, including the auto industry, but GM has done a lot to hurt themselves with their subpar vehicles and the union building them.

Alas, GM lovers, no more Impala, Cadillac XTS, Buick Lacrosse, and others, in Canada or US. Do not bail them out, let them die if that is their fate for a crappy business model (pardon the pun), their workers can make Chryslers or Nissans or whatever.

If our boy blunder does acquiesce, then we better be pulling the same oar come Oct/19 rather than pining for Max or allowing Grits to divide and conquer libertarians and conservatives, or we are done. If what is happening in Europe and the Trump hyper phenomenon does show that, then nothing will, and the keel of our nation will break itself imho, if we allow progressives to further balkanize our nation.

    1. Shamrock, while many of us here DO criticize Scheer and the CPC, you don’t have to worry that any of us will vote Liberal!

Some blogs are a CPC love fest, and that does no one any good, CPC should know some of us see their faults and mistakes, and call them on it. Here at SDA, I find more constructive criticism than on any other conservative blog. One of my other regular blogs, the owner deletes anything even mildly critical of the CPC or any Conservative politician, so all we see is a CPC cheering section which leads to over confidence and lunatic suggestions on how to rid ourselves of Trudeau.

They work for us, we should never forget that, and give them $hit when they deserve it.

      1. Encouraging to hear (not trying to stifle debate or criticism which is healthy and important), but we’ll all need to vote CPC.

Sometimes our favourite foods aren’t on the buffet, but the meal is still better than thin Grit gruel offered by the statists.

        1. “we’ll all need to vote CPC.”

No we don’t. Indeed Scheer is actually worse than Trudeau in some ways. He was more zealous in advocating for the supply management regime and wants to further elevate the Regional Economic Development agencies. He’s awful.

          1. Giant deficits to prop up supply management or other government control supply con games?

What my dog drops in forest every morning has more logic than your idiotic remarks, which are getting even stupider. Just having fun? There are people as stupid as you who would believe your BS.

          2. Oh lookie here, somehow our resident autistic libertarian managed to perform enough mental gymnastics to surprisingly advocate to PM Pussy Hat. Who would have thought?

      2. Well said. I agree wholeheartedly. I will hold my great disappointment in Scheer and vote to get rid of PM Butts.

Hopefully someone from the CPC has been reading our criticisms here and there is some redress.

        1. Would be best if Sheer got Patrick Browned first. When Sheer has Warren Kinsella cheering for him it is a good enough indication that he needs to go.

    2. GM is closing plants in both countries that build cars nobody wants. In the US in particular, they are building cars the leftists told people they should want. Well, the people have spoken and told those lefties to bugger off, and those jobs are gone. Ford seems to be the smartest run of the NA auto makers. No bailout, and they are getting rid of all the sedans nobody wants. Trucks, SUV’s and the Mustang.

    3. “we better be pulling the same oar come Oct/19”

Get bent and pull your own stupid oar. Max is imperfect and the only remotely sensible voting choice. Scheer ‘had it’ and he blew it; polls show the CPC losing its summer edge.

      1. I’m referring to rational voters, not you. Having said idiots like you are a big reason Justin is PM. That’s my objection.

Other than that, couldn’t care less about your Max man crush or any other inane things you say.

  6. President Ezra Levant of the newly formed Republic of Canada has made a major announcement regarding the repair of the long term socialist damage inflicted upon Canada in a 10 point plan. From this day forward the following emergency actions will be made permanent;

    1. Canada will outlaw in its entirety public and private trade unions and collective bargaining. No longer will the lazy, the ignorant, and the stupid be allowed to hold our nation hostage over their self-centered and destructive Marxist ideologies.
    2. The Canadian Government will phase out the GST and hundreds of other taxes, levies and royalties. This is in conjunction with making Canada the lowest taxed and regulated economy in the developed world.
    3. Indian nations will have 2 years to outright purchase their ancestral lands and after that they will go to public auction. Reserves for classes of Canadians will be abolished. No longer will aboriginals be regarded as extra special citizens and will be taxed and treated like regular Canadians.
    4. Any capital projects whether public or private will have a single review from which detractors may voice their comments. Real tangible harm must be unequivocally proven at that time or else the complainant will be back-charged for all legal fees borne by the investors.
    5. The Canadian Government will make permanent the layoff of 80% of all public employees immediately. Any and all future need for manpower at the administrative level will be provided by private contractors in an open and transparent bid process.
    6. Canada’s only official language is English, the worlds language of commerce, science and the arts.
    7. All Canadian executive positions from President down to Mayor shall be elected positions and shall appear directly on a ballot.
    8. The Canadian Government shall no longer set aside any industry such as media and banking for any special treatment. Canadians need and demand the best quality of goods and services and shall receive that in a free and fair open market.
    9. Canada shall no longer accept any immigrant who does not meet an IQ standard and a proven record of productivity. Immigration from Hispanic and Black areas of the world will be outlawed. Muslim immigration will be outlawed. Immigration from our traditional European nations will be most favored as they represent the best immigrant stock available to us.
    10. Canada will dedicate 25% of all its gross revenue to the new Canadian military.

    1. I have to call you out on the blatant racism in #9 as well. I get screening/return to sender policies for ideological incompatibilities, but basing immigration purely on race isn’t defensible. I’d encourage you to rethink your views on that front.

  7. Yes they probably have an entire plant rusting away in some soviet style building. We could get the entire operation and Jerri Diaz could be shop steward on the floor. Maybe call it a combination of the Yugo/Lada name…. Yuda or Lago or Dada.

On a more serious note. jerri diaz cannot stop the loss of one job. Didn’t Oshawa have over 20,000 uniform jobs at one time? Not one of the last 15 auto plants built in NA was built in Canada.

I once rode the train with a fellow from NB who was working in the oil patch. He had put 30 years in a paper/pulp mill as a union member in NB. The plant closed and everyone lost their job. He was bitter and said after 30 years of paying union dues they (union) didn’t do a damn thing for him. He came west, left his family and found work. He told me he had a 5 year plan and worked every possible minute he could as his wife kids and grandkids were back in NB where he was going to retire after he finished. He came to realize that he was ultimately responsible for his own wellbeing. He hated the union, with good reason.

    1. Its unfortunate, but history keeps repeating itself, in regards to union members and their rhetorical union bosses.

Never forget who signs the paycheque! Hint, its not the union boss, never!

How many union troglodytes are responsible for closed plants ans mills, thanks to those incompetent monsters? Far too many, as they live nice cushy exec for life jobs and retirements, by keeping the union proles ignorant and looking at the wrong issue.

    2. The builders of the Lada were so forward-thinking that each car came with its own tool box and manual crank starter (just like the Ford Model T). Way ahead of their time for a 19th century auto manufacturer. The first recyclable car.

  8. As the old saying goes “Idle hands are the devil’s work.”; analogously “Idle factories are the PM’s work.”

Thus PM True-“Dope”-ia is in league with the devil! QED

Waiting for politicians to come and help you, is about as useful as sucking hind teat on a boar hog.

    Cheers

    Hans Rupprecht, Commander in Chief
    1st Saint Nicolaas Army
    Army Group ‘True North’

    1. FYI. The old saying goes: The devil finds things for idle hands to do…or: The devil finds work for idle hands. Often quoted to me when receiving an assignment of work, after getting into mischief.

  9. Not to worry … all these unemployed workers will be retrained in “clean, green” industries that will benefit “mankind” instead of some $rich$ corporation.

      1. Bye … 😛 … I’m frog-marching myself off to Justina’s reeducation camp, er “dance studio”

    1. I suppose windmill building, eco battery plants and solar farms are out.
Maybe the union guys can be trained to be health care givers to post transgender surgical patients?

  10. auto parts plant closures started before the GM announcement, here in owen sound, on. Tenneco shocks announced about 2 wks ago they were closing the plant here.
This is a non union plant, that employs around 600 and this closure is over the next yr to yr half. This is devasting to our city of 21k. Over the past 10yrs Goodyear belts, PPG glass and whitaker cable have closed up shop all auto sector parts manufacturers. Iam a firm believer that these industries may have stayed if McGuintys liberals had not stopped the municipalities from offering tax incentives. This among the other screwups from the liberals such as high energy cost.

    1. Always remember, Maurice Strong’s plan was to de-industrialize the west in favour of exporting the industries to the 3rd world. The Liberals of Ontario and now the federal Liberals are following this agenda.

What we have seen under McGuinty, Wynn and now PM Butts is only the beginning.

  11. Jerry Dias and his union supported:
    – higher income taxes,
    – higher business taxes,
    – higher CO2 taxes
    – higher electricity prices
    – higher property taxes
    – more government regulation and lots more red tape
Jerry, GM listened to you and your union and then they took action. Sorry, Jerry you reap what you sowed.

  12. Not to worry folks…we still have the 6000 jobs announced during the India Dress Up Like an Idiot tour to fall back on. Oh wait…that was just a big lie to deflect attention away from a leader of a G7 country making an absolute asshole of himself and his family. Namely, our fearful leader, Justin Sock Boy Trudeau. So what now?

  13. unionboy: a history lesson, ‘Eaton Automotive’. we were living in st catharines at the time.
the union position was hard as granite. our way or the highway.
mgmt position was equally unmoving, we CANNOT remain profitable with those terms.
the union won. got their demands met.
the plant closed soon after. mgmt was NOT bluffing as unionboy claimed.
I was in my early 30s at the time, it was a real lesson in unionboy mentality.

a strike is a powerful weapon. but it seems to have a lot of ‘bounce’, that is, the tactic can ‘bounce’ back at unionboy and smack him right in the face. and wallet. and livelihood.

when I think back the miserly wages I had to work with, then pay increases based solely and exclusively on MERIT and PROFICIENCY and INNOVATIONS and HARD WORK in the total absence of a gang behind me, I still resent the fact I paid a premium for stuff to cover the embedded costs of unionism.

    1. Your lesson applies everywhere. The BC coast and small towns are littered with the skeletons of closed mills, big and small, thanks to the outrageous greed of the IWA/USW. Hope those former union members have finally learned that stark reality, the hard way.

The Union loudmouth Schnook doesnt sign the paycheque, the Mill OWNER signs it.

I still look at places like the vast Chemainus paved parking lot on the highway that used to be a busy worksite, or Elk Falls, a sprawling area of a pulp mill and secondary industry, that is now a ghost town. Thanks Union Bosses, nice cushy retirement? Of course, its always the company’s fault, according to the dinosaurs in the union……

I’ve been involved enough over the years, paying dues to unions (no more!), listening and watching the leaders and their minions, to determine a long time ago, that they are the worst kinds of politicians. Never trust a union leader’s pronouncements or actions at face value, they always have a hidden agenda, that puts themselves first. The membership are just useful idiots

      1. I knew some people involved in the partial demolition at the Elk Falls pulp mill and in doing so, they came across an “unknown” (to management) chamber behind some conveyors that was built and furnished as a lounge and TV room all on the company dime. In such establishments management had frequently “given up trying to keep a handle on affairs” and were littered with complicit “supervisors”.

It has been my experience that the only time the union leadership and followers actually believed anything management said was when they showed up with their capital investment (lunch buckets) and discovered a locked gate.

      2. Yes, the union bosses never lose. They keep their jobs, perks, and pensions and write you off if your place of work closes. They never were interested in your welfare to begin, just using your body and dues to further their socialist agenda.

    2. HB.

The same thing happened in San Diego CA. The city wanted to raise the property tax 100% against a big company ( General Dynamics) The company said do it and we will leave. The city did and a few months later the company said C-ya and started laying off 30.000 high paying jobs. It took about a year and a half.
Now the workers went on unemployment and the city lost the tax base galore.
      Fools never learn.

  14. You would almost swear that these closures were on purpose. That the formerly Liberal gov’t actually wanted oil and auto jobs gone. I mean, how else would you explain their policies?

    1. Deplorable Sean, “You would almost swear that these closures were on purpose.”

Yes of course, Just In has a plan,
perfect for making windmills, panels or eco batteries.

Government subsidised UNION jobs(just like Bomb bart E eh),,, Canadian Liberals will think Just In, is the smartest man in the country, and unifor union members will keep voting for Just In, and not flip to the NDP. Just In, wants the union support and the union knows flipping back to the NDP would be a loss of clout and privilege.

  15. All Jobs are Equal But Some are More Equal Than Others

How can the Liberals and NDP not see that cheerleading, even subsidizing jobs in the auto sector that produce cars and truck that account for 25% of Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions yet have nothing to say when they kill the jobs associated with the cancellation of Northern Gateway and Energy East.

    http://moneytalks.net/article-and-commentary/michael-campbell/mikes-daily-commentary/22481-gm-plant-closures-remind-us-that-all-jobs-are-equal-but-some-are-more-equal-than-others-.html

    1. Maybe Alberta and Saskatchewan need to take their dirty oil industry to the new Republic of Saskaberta, and let Eastern Canada pay for their own Saudi oil.

    1. I suppose Scheer figures he has to say something or he’ll lose even more votes in Ontario. It’s fascinating to hear politicians and union bosses make demands from a position they don’t seem to realize is one of weakness.

Canada cannot at any level dictate terms to the U.S. auto industry or that of any other country that built plants here, all the blustering and bullshit from the pols and Diaz won’t change that fact.

This was inevitable given the compensation packages paid the auto workers, highest paid fat cats in Canadian industry, even worse than the B.C. pulp mills, most of which closed and moved to exotic locations such as China,Indonesia and South America, while all the Union chiefs bitched their heads off about it.

It’s about time the overpaid and underworked auto workers got their comeuppance, and it will only get worse for that sector as more companies go with AI. I’d rather buy a vehicle built by a robot than a hung over union worker who snorted cocaine in the shitter before shift to give him some energy to stagger through the day.

  16. I wonder how many of those socialist GM workers would happily take a Canada Post job now, despite the alleged unsafe work conditions and “lousy” pay and benefits.

  17. Alberta lost 3x as many employees PER MONTH in the last couple of years as what Oshawa will be losing from this plant closing.

Clearly Oshawa workers can build other vehicles at that plant, but it seems to be the choice GM has made for now, and that GM will be moving much of its electric car production to China… Larry Kudlow commenting in this moment on FOX News at a White House news briefing.

Andrew Scheer meeting with GM is window dressing, he can’t force any decision to change, nor negotiate anything, he’s only showing that he cares. Which is no worse nor better than the most stupid PM of Canada ever, Justin Trudeau.

Alberta doesn’t have an other natural resource available that would employ these 1000’s of people. If you’d like to open up a shop in the downtown Calgary area, rents are negotiable in any block you’d like to set up in, though sales are likely to be dismal. In minor small talk I’ve had with existing shop owners, they’ve indicated their municipal taxes have tripled or more since the oil companies have vacated office space. The Calgary City Council taking the view that, “hey everyone’s got to have some skin in the game”.

Canada is broken. I expect our economic situation to become vastly worse, and in 20 years from now if someone could look back and say, “this is where it all went wrong” could simply look to the most recent election of the Trudeau Liberals, and the potential for more of this idiocy in 2019.

    Canada is broken.

    1. “Canada is broken” and being governed by a gaggle of circus clowns. But remember, the de-industrialization started with the McGuinty and Wynne Liberals and the NDP.

      1. Sorry Ken, but the seed was germinated when JustDims Father was elected with his Multi-Cult bile…and I am ashamed to say that as an 18 yr old, I simply had no Freaking clue what that particular Quebecois POS was about but voted for him nevertheless. It didnt take all that long as I saw first hand by the time I was 27..in Calgary, working as a 3rd yr apprentice welder….he brought in the NEP and in literally 2 months time, there was not a fab shop in Existance in this city. THat coupled with 21% interest rates….spelled DISASTER. I Ended up driving a cab for 4 years – Grew and sold pot just to make ends meet. At the same time , I managed to get somewhat educated on a 2 YR stint @ SAIT.

Why I have this inate sense of Deja vu today simply baffles me though….?? sarc/OFF. I’ve seen this movie before.

I have no love for Scheer – I dont trust him at all – same tired old Lib bullshiter in sheeps clothing. I like Max…he is the only one talking about the SHIT that matters. Open borders – the OVERT attempt at the Islamization of our country. Vets – homeless – Seniors being completely ignored and the overt and totally PLANNED willful Destruction of our Industries.

We absolutely have a homegrown TRAITOR in our midst & I see that for the most part Canadians are completely OBLIVIOUS to his & Butts endgame.
Incredible. When the Police start Guarding Islamic conventions where the main speakers are full on 100% spewing Virulent Anti-Israeli Anti Christian Hatred as they call for our collective Deaths, you know you’re not in Kansas anymore.

One hopes that there are some sane and capable folks who just might consider taking that POS out… and I aint talking Dinner. Not one to wish ill of anyone…in this case I make an exception.

  18. What seems to be bizarre about this closure is they are going to spread the pain and frustration out for the next whole year. How many customers would be interested in buying a vehicle built by a workforce that knows when their jobs end and have no future with GM beyond that. That’s similar to what happened with the Edsel, a workforce under compulsory arbitration assembling an otherwise competitive car of the day but with many paid saboteurs doing their bit to add non-lethal annoyances resulting in destruction of the brand.

They should just pay the severance and shut her down and let the employees get on with dealing with it.

    1. NR – I didn’t realize that Ben’s closed for that reason. I frequented the place when used to go to Montreal (and Biddle’s Jazz club).

      1. ab : Correction, Ben’s closed 11 years after unionizing, rather… then when employees went on strike the place was closed and the building was sold. Many people were disappointed. Some of the waiters had been there many, many years and were lost as to where to go.

(Btw: I’ve never been to Biddle’s Jazz Club but read that it too, closed. There are many others still opened though.)

        1. Mordecai Richler used to go to Ben’s. I think it was a setting in Duddy Kravitz…..I could be wrong. Mixing up my Richler stories.
I knew Biddles had closed. Charles Biddle was a capable bass player. I had a few good nights in the club.

          1. https://www.theguardian.com/travel/2011/jan/11/montreal-mordecai-richler-literary-guide

ab…it was likely Schwartz’s Deli described in “Duddy…” because it is near where Richler grew up. Richler as well probably ate at Ben’s too as it was close to the Sir Winston Churchill Pub he frequented. (mentioned in the above link, do enjoy it.)

P.S. I have some crazy stories about people who I know who’ve met famous people. Another time perhaps. I wouldn’t want to veer too off topic, for we’d be banned from this site! We can’t have that!

  19. The only thing china should do is perfect there chow mien and chop suey recipes anything else the Chinese do is iffy and disconcerting at best.

    1. China should develop its internal markets; however, this brings political risks to the Communists.

  20. Any one who believes we can currently thrive without fossile fuels obvously believes the economy can grow from the heart outwards, not through investment and employment. For my Nobel prize in economics application, I state that Trump’s major impact on the economy has been deregulation, tax cuts and optimism.

  21. Hey Obama promised to buy a Chevy Volt when he left the white house. Wonder if he did? Or was it just another empty leftist promise?

  22. I have dealt with left leaning people all my life and I have learned that you cannot reason with them . It is a complete and utter waist of time . The media and academia are their comfort . Anyone with an ounce of common sense would realize that our beautiful Canada has a federal government run by fools ………………..

  23. Is it possible to decertify in Canada? Has a union EVER been decertified in Canada?

I am thinking the auto workers of Canada are S.O.L.

    1. Personnaly, I would love to see PUBLIC Service Unions DE-CERTIFIED right across the country.
That coupled with a 10-15% cut in their Wages and Benefits….that alone would be an injection of Hope into this country.

NEVER foreget that “UNIONS” were the initial idea of a certain Karl Marx……
And to me the root of all the LEFTIST Evil in this Country and throughout the Western Hemisphere started when our Nations allowed said workers to organize.

  24. Unifor journalists report that the Unifor president had a productive talk with Justin today regarding the GM plant closure. Trudeau is so wonderful!

  25. They destroyed the oil industry because they don’t want us driving cars. Why would they cry when we stop building cars? This is either turning out exactly like they wanted it to, or they are retarded.

  26. “Trump has been pushing for manufacturing jobs to return to the United States since he was elected, he has made moves like cutting taxes and regulations. He has been playing to win.”

And yet GM closed 4 plants in America. There goes the narrative! Trump also imposed massive import taxes on the raw materials for those cars.

    1. Hey unthing….do you also write commentary for North99….?? or the “Open Borders Society” of Canada

      Are ya that DAFT laddy.??

If those plants produced product people liked – they would not close. I trust that concept is Not too hard for you to understand…hmm?

  27. UnMe – GM should keep building passenger cars that don’t sell?

But I agree that the Trump tariffs on steel and aluminum don’t help automakers. Industry warned Trump that protecting a few steel jobs would cost lots of downstream jobs.

Perhaps GM is trying to set up a bidding war for whatever they plan to build in the future. They might be looking for states and municipalities to compete for a new plant, but one with low taxes and lots of government freebees.

If their new car is an electric car, well have fun GM

    1. “GM should keep building passenger cars that don’t sell?”

      I never said that.

I don’t have the article handy, but there was an analyst who called exactly this a few years ago because GM has (had) too much spare capacity and too many product lines. It has nothing to do with Trudeau.

  28. I hate socialism as much as anyone on here but I won’t blame Jr and Wyndmills for GM’s decision. GM simply wants to stop making cars and wants to build Chinese electric golf carts. I wish them well and so long as they are not using my money I really don’t care. Sucks to be an auto worker but such is the case when you rely on one employer to provide you forever employment/retirement.

    1. Trudeau and especially McGuinty and Whynne laid the groudwork for this decision.
Were corporate Tax, Electricity and Labour rates anywhere close to COMPETITIVE with Comparable US Plants is one thing….?? But that is not the case is it..?? Had JustDim not shat all over a sitting US President behind his back…maybe things mighta been a tad different…hmm??

But overall one needs to Look to the CORRUPTION & Rampant theft of Taxpayer dollars in Canadian Politics….from Municipal right up to Federal. Elitists doing what they can for their unelected Elitist friends. End of Fricking story.
They could give a shit in their gated communities.

      1. I would love to agree with you but GM is also closing US plants and has raised the ire of Trump by doing so. GM just wants to make electric golf carts in China and not cars in North America. Not trying to defend any socialist in Canada. I suspect the board of GM is globalist.

  29. Will Prinz Dummkopf be feeling the pain of all those unemployed auto assemblers just like he felt that of the Alberta oil workers now without jobs?

    Just wondering…..

  30. Yes, he’s feeling immense pain. He met with the unionist thug who guided our NAFTA negotiators….the ones that brought Trump to heel.
The unionist thug has suggested that the libranos could hurt GM if they chose to. Yeah that’ll help. lets go after them at other GM plants.
The stupidity of jerri diaz is immeasurable.
These are the people who are bongo’s advisors…..

    1. “The unionist thug has suggested that the libranos could hurt GM if they chose to. Yeah that’ll help. lets go after them at other GM plants.”

Another winning strategy Trump has adopted.

  31. I’m 76 years old. I have not bought a sedan in the last 18 years. A small SUV is just fine for me, easy to get in and out, 4 wheel drive for snowy, icy roads. A hatch back for ease in handling bags of groceries, lumber for home maintenance, bags of top soil etc.

    1. Exactly, and the same age here. We bought our last sedan in 2004, and purchased our 3rd larger SUV since 2004 a year ago. An SUV is easier on the back.

    2. @Steve
Exactly my sentiments. I bought my first ever non-sedan(age 67), a SUV after I noticed the ease of getting in and especially getting out of my neighbour’s SUV. Plus it has ‘intelligent’ 4 wheel drive which is amazing in heavy snow. And of course the
convenience of loading and unloading the rear. I’ll never go back to a sedan. It is hard on gas but I’ll suck it up. Hate the upcoming carbon tax effect on fuel prices.

  32. The auto industry was largely attracted to Ontario by the promise of cheap hydro power. Ontario Hydro was probably the finest utility in the world. Running water producing electricity.
Ontario hydro went out of control. Big wages and politicians who couldn’t keep their hands off the utility.
It’s criminal what happened to Ontario Hydro. The fallout continues.
