    1. Add Shania Twain to the stuck up list. About 15 years ago Shania played 2 sold out shows in Calgary. Local high school musicians were hired to join the band on stage for 2 songs to play marching band percussion. My daughter was one of the students. They went to one rehearsal and then did the shows on successive evenings. Shania’s band was great but she didn’t so much as say Hello. Walked right by them as though they were fence posts.

    Trudeau complains about everyone but lieberals and their sunny ways. The lieberal boy is perpetually campaigning, his ministers constantly insulting and he has the nerve to question populism?     1. My recollection was that they were totally negative against Conservstives in the last election, while running side shows like Duffy and painting Conservatives as “anti-immigrant”. Of course MSM, Soros money and left leaning activists did some of the dirty work. Who exactly paid for the campaign that had people going around claiming Harper was anti-science or all those mini-campaigns illegally posting info on who in a riding was most likely to beat Conservatives? Did we ever get a resolution from Elections Canada regarding the report submitted by Crocket about election cheating and illegal funding?
      Liberals like to appear magnanimous, but out of power they behave like caged rats. All of Harper’s tenure was relentless negativity from Liberals.

      The conservative “attack ads” are merely desperate attempts to get even a smidgen of truth out re. what liberals have said & done, cuz the media sure will keep things under wraps.

    Yes. To true.

    U.S. Civil war is one of my current interests. It is a vast field of events and time lines which can lost in focusing on only one event. No mention of the battle of Shiloh which took place almost concurrently with McClellan’s peninsula campaign. Shiloh was the first real civil war battle (U.S. Grant commanding, a Union victory) and casualties were very high. The death toll was a shock to both north and south. I have no doubt that this had an affect on McClellan’s timid approach to battle in the peninsula campaign.

    1. McClellan’s disdain for Lincoln was well-known, referring to him as feeble-minded and a baboon, if I recall that bit of the Ken Burns series The Civil War correctly.

      Lincoln, on the other hand, was equally as exasperated with McClellan. Out of frustration, he asked the general if he could borrow the army as McClellan didn’t seem interested in using it.

      Then again, Lincoln had enormous bad luck in his choice of commanders. As the documentary noted, McClellan had the job twice. But Lincoln went through just about every senior leader (e. g., Winfield Scott and Joseph Hooker) before he finally settled on Grant. What the difference was that Grant was willing to engage the enemy, particularly when he captured Vicksburg by going by land and attacking from behind.

      1. McClellan was truly major disappointment.

        Supposedly when Lincoln received complaints that Grant drank he said “find out what brand he drinks. I’ll buy a keg of it for all of my generals. Grant fights.” And he did.

  18. In keeping with the idea that there are too many General McClellans in the Republican party (something I agree with), one must also see Andrew Scheer as another McClellan. A recent example: the recent insipid TV commercial airing now. The commercial is badly produced; grainy; depicting Scheer badly (easy to do, given his rather dumb-looking face). But the content of the commercial is virtually empty. All it says is that Scheer is a family man. That’s it. There are a number of fellows on my street who are good family men, but that doesn’t make them capable of leading the country.

    One more thing about political commercials. The 75-IQ writers and producers of these always think that it is necessary to telecast only one commercial, repetitively. The idea of studying the Conservative Party’s belief system (yes, even under Scheer they must have one) is utterly foreign to a 75-IQ ad man. If pray tell the TV-ad producer could mentally comprehend the CP’s belief system, more than one TV ad could be made.

    1. May want to look into the history of that, and perhaps consider the absolute shitshow that was going on at the time and ignored by the government while it focused efforts on a fox hunt ban. You know, the old government standby of screw basic shit up so distract everyone with some sort of controversy that can easily be turned into a divisive identity or class issue, like you just did. Notice the rest of that standard headline “the Government packs your lunch, and”.

      War of the Rebellion, War between the States, War for Southern Independence, American Civil War, and other names have been used.

      Personally, I think “Civil War” is used as a convenience …. it’s short and reflects the fact that all fighters were Americans.

    DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A court in Dubai has sentenced an Egyptian taxi driver to six months in prison and deportation after convicting him of sexually assaulting a U.S. Navy officer.

    The National, an English-language, state-aligned newspaper in Abu Dhabi, reported the verdict in its Tuesday’s edition.

    It says the 34-year-old Egyptian grabbed the 22-year-old woman’s thigh and forced her to touch his groin while driving her from a mall to Dubai’s Jebel Ali port in March 2017.

    The taxi driver was initially cleared of the charge in a lower court, but prosecutors appealed and won a conviction at Dubai’s Court of Appeal.

    Jebel Ali is the U.S. Navy’s busiest port of call outside of the U.S.

    The U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
