  1. Taking a $90K loan to get an engineering/nursing/actuarial (STEM) degree…this is called investing in yourself because you will make far more money than you originally paid…and you may very well be part of a team that develops new technology (I’m thinking of all those “nerds” who were taking computer programming in high school back in the late 70s and early 80s–so they could program their Radio Shack TRS-80s…are the people who helped develop/push forward the technological breakthroughs we’re experiencing today). Taking out a $20K loan to become a tradesman such as a plumber, an electrician, a car mechanic, etc…this is called an investment in yourself because the money you will make upon completion of the course and subsequent apprenticeship will be far more than your original cost. Taking out a $90K loan to get an English, Artistic Dance, Gender Studies, History, Poli Sci (pretty much all the Humanities, Fine Arts, Performing Arts) degree–in order to get you ready to work at Starbucks/Tim Hortons/McDonald’s at minimum wage that is called a waste of time and money.

    1. exactly……our boat mechanic borrowed to go to school to learn that….he paid it back in 2 years

  2. Ah, c’mon Favill… you know you’re just joshing …one can always teach history etc. …have summers off, travel the world… and all those other fun things, or … become a Member of Parliament. They get even more time off than school teachers. Right?

    1. I’d like to know how many mps and mpps have any sort of post secondary diploma, degree, licence etc.

    2. When I become the King of Canada…my first act will be to cut the pay of all politicians to 1/3 of what they’re paid now and totally do away with their pensions. Matter of fact, anybody with a pension will automatically forfeit it upon winning an election at any level of government–this will include police and military personnel. All civil servants will get no pension with the exception of the RCMP and the military (everybody else will be able to top up their own RRSP/TFSA out of their own pocket like 99.99% of non-public servants) and automatically give up any rights to join a union while they are a civil servant.

  3. I thought that Obama had prepaid ALL student Loans. His Government bought back most from the Loan Companies in 2015.. The cost has been paid & the free Gun has been loaded for Bernie to announce his free program that costs nothing but a paper transaction…..Trump could sell the Loans back to the Banks and recover billions…..

    1. Exactly! Obama took over (nationalized, if you will) all student loans. He did this at the deepest trough of the mortgage meltdown recession/depression. He simultaneously told all the ‘underserved’ communities to go to college. The college loan farce has been nothing more than a welfare program for Obama’s ‘underserved’ communities. Essentially unqualified students easily tapped into massive $$$ student loans … while twiddling their thumbs in “The evils of white colonialism 101” class. They have been funded by the government to learn HATE of our country and culture. Well kiddies … it’s gonna take a BIG CHUNK $$$ of your Starbucks paycheck to make the minimum payments. But that’s all the white man’s fault too, eh?

  4. women borrow more money and repay more slowly than men do, thus pay more interests

that is liberated independent women free to do as they please,

it must be because of the patriarchy.

    right?

    What Degree You Get Matters
    6/5/18 CNN:
Women hold nearly two-thirds of all student debt in the US, according to a report from the American Association of University Women, a group that advocates for equity and education for women and girls.
Part of the reason is that more women go to college. They represented 56% of students enrolled in the fall of 2016.
Kate over at Small Dead Animals has a very funny explanation for this:
    If Women Ran The World
We’d all still live in caves, but with really, really expensive gender studies degrees.
I doubt that gender studies degrees are much of the cause. I would be curious what the sex ratio is of undergraduate degrees. Do women more often get degrees in psychology, art, history? Those are bachelor’s that seldom lead to good jobs without a graduate degree. This will do. STEM degrees for men 2014-15: 436,674; for women: 198,999.

  6. “As God is my witness, I thought spending $100,000 on a Women’s Studies degree with a minor in Ancient Etruscan Women’s Poetry was a good investment.”

tl;dr: Women are bad at math and should not be allowed to borrow money without a note from their husband or father.

  7. Education isn’t what it used to be across the board. Gender studies now infects everything; it don’t matter that you are a mechanical engineer, or that your bridge won’t collapse. Only the gender and racial diversity of your steel and concrete matters.

Your degree does not matter; the debt will never be paid, cause there will never be a job. Ever.

  8. In short, the education tree is poisoned. It is all fruit of the poisoned tree.

Don’t bother with post secondary. Tell everyone who asks.

  9. The fools running up debt for these worthless credentials do not have to worry. Working at McDs and Starbucks they will never be able to pay even a small fraction of what they owe. The biggest fools here are the people that back up these loans . . . Oh wait ! That would be me – a taxpayer ! Dang.
