Here’s the news most of our media won’t tell you about Wilbur Ross and his comments on Canadian steel. We could have avoided the tariffs altogether.

The great negotiator.
Trudeau is just doing what the laurentian elite have done since Kennedy was POTUS.
Take it for granted that our relations with the US would remain static no matter what we did.
According to the very best and brightest (just ask them) in the US, Canada, and the EU, President Donald Trump is a buffoon and his supporters are all hillbilly idiots. Why would noble Canadian Liberals listen to that clown? Especially when Robert Mueller is going to drive him out of office any day now. Any day, just you wait, you’ll see!!!
But all the Canadian experts and apologists told me that Chinese steel being transshipped through Canada to the US was no big deal.
I guess it was a big deal after all.
Including a few trolls commenting here.
Not a surprise. Smug, self-righteous and full of sh!T.
Ross, Trump aren’t talking about China Steel, labeled as China Steel. They are talking about chinese steel, being re labeled as Canadian steel. With Canadian steel certifications. Fraud.
We’ve already had to tear down structures made from certified, but too late found to be sub quality chinese steel.
Silky Pony has chosen thieves and China over Canadian steel workers, manufacturers and America. That was super fine with Hussain. New Sheriff in town.
I seem to recall an issue with Chinese steel during the construction of the new bridge in Vancouver.
Just following in his fathers footsteps, having not learned from any mistakes of that evil old corpse. Senior desperately wanted out of the shadow of the elephant. If I recall correctly, the move to the metric system was mainly because we were supposed to trade with Europe instead of the US.
Yes, and that putative free trade deal with China worked out oh so well when Trudeau & Co got thrown out of the country in December last year. Even the CBC had to admit that China declined to agree to begin formal negotiations. At the time, our Dolt-In-Chief claimed “substantial progress” from the four-day visit, but was unable to cite anything whatsoever from the Chinese trip.

Here is an interesting piece to read. It looks like Merkel is throwing our challenged shiny pony under the bus. I read some numbers that put this action into perspective. The USA only exports 14% of it’s GDP. Canada is about 36% and Germany is 66%. Do the math.

The President has spent his life financing the construction of buildings, and clearly knows which questions to ask in a meeting of fellow builders.
When Trudeau is in a meeting, what does he ask of those tasked with providing advice? What difference would it make when he’s never built anything? Our Canadian community organiser… Perhaps his only real question is “how long is this meeting”?
And what matching socks do I wear Gerald?
And, is the steel 36 gender compliant?
“Why does it hurt when I pee?”
That Canadians have been cheating on steel in order to favor China is something Canadians need to know. We are so smug and quick to disparage the US. At this point Liberals are happy to exploit Canadian dislike of Trump to bolster their own popularity. This is dishonest, and they deserve to have the strategy blow up in their face.
Is anyone in our self praising media able, or willing, to track some numbers and see who made money on the fraudulent trans-shipment of Chinese steel? CBC? CTV? The Toronto Star or the Globe and Mail? Now those last two are funny, they already have the numbers, they know who got the money, they probably took some for themselves, and they’re busily burying the information at the bottom of a mine. How about the NP? Oh wait, don’t the Aspers run it?
Because I’m thinking that Liberal party elites were neck deep in it. They always are.
Here’s a good starting place https://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/the-top-ten-families-in-canada-who-contribute-to-politicalparties/article26678961/
Yes — and do not forget that Chretien (earlier the king-pin Maurice Strong) and Paul Martin (after losing the PM position) spent all kinds of time “consulting” in China. I would say “colluding”, rather than “consulting”. China and the Liberal Party do seem to have some kind of special relationship. Canadians need to know more about this.
Those steel tariffs are the least thing China has saddled Canada with.
Most Saudi oil goes not to the US (which is, or should have been, self-sufficient in fossil fuels) or to Europe (Russia has plenty, and the Germans just don’t like paying for it), but to China.
Without cheap Arab oil China would never have industrialized, and when it runs out, they’ll be starving once more.
Hence their plans to conquer Canada by stealth and steal our oil in the short run. The grand prize, of course, is Russia, the greatest treasure trove of resources on the planet, and the only serious rival of China left for dominion of the Eastern hemisphere.
The Chinese believe that the Middle Kingdom is the centre of the universe and that it is their destiny to rule the world by divine right, with all other nations vassals paying them tribute, if allowed to maintain their identity at all. They will stop at nothing, and are willing to wait as long as necessary.
But please, let your freshman niece at Ryerson and her Arab boyfriend tell us more about “Zionism” and how the Jews secretly run everything. Never mind that all the Jews want is to be left in peace.
“and that it is their destiny to rule the world by divine right,”
Yes, and the Liberal Party of Canada seems to agree with this.
I’d much rather have a Jewish hegemony than a chinese one.
And then Trudeau can’t miss an opportunity to dump on Trump, criticizing the locking up of criminals’ kids which is something his government (and Obama’s) also does (did). Why would Trump ever make a deal with such an A hole? Trudeau makes absolutely no attempt to see the issues from America’s viewpoint.
Thanks for the article Brian. You fleshed out well what we here already knew but did not know the mechanics of the process.
It should not be a surprise that China does not pose a Military Treat…but they are competing full scale with the USA in Trade
..
Canadians are picking/did pick a winner before everyone else realized that the new Global conflict is Trade
Enjoy the Strip Search…It is humbling
China sells 4 times more to the U. S than it buys . It protects the areas of commerce where the U. S. Has the advantage and steals intellectual property . Canada has being a trading conduit into the U. S. The low cost steel also hurts Canadian suppliers , and some of businesses are at present bringing trade actions against companies importing chineses steel. We bailed out the car companies and they rewarded us by moving significant production to Mexico. Trump is right on trade and immigration among other things . Canada should be a partner. Justin and the Liberals have royally screwed up , and they see the anti U.S. / Trump scenario as their best hope at re- election . Oh well , at least we will be known as the pot capital of the world !
Finally Wilbur Ross puts a spike in that fake narrative that it is soooooooooooooooo insulting to Canadians who fought in the trenches with the USA..for the USA to apply tariffs on national security grounds cuz Trump thinks Canada poses a military threat cuz he thinks Canada burned down the White House in 1812.
How cleverly and deceitfully Team Canada has spun that tale to embarrass the President. Just two days before the G7 summit, Trudeau leaked a phone conversation he had with Trump to CNN. He made it appear that Trump was serious about the 1812 incident while Trump was joking.
At the G7, after Trump make concession on the sunset clause, Trudeau gives a press conference and resorts to the bogus narrative; the tariffs based on Canada posing a military threat are “somewhat insulting” and Canadians “won’t be pushed around” .
Just days after the NY Times publishes an interview with Canada’s Foreign Minister Freeland where she compares Trump to Hitler, Freeland is awarded the Diplomat of the Year Award. In her acceptance speech she appeals to the bogus narrative; that its soooooo hurtful for Trump to view Canada is a military threat…”our soldiers fought together” ..and she infers Trump lacks integrity, that he is incompetent and dishonest. “And it means governing with integrity. Facts matter. Truth matters. Competence and honesty, among elected leaders and in our public services, matter.”
When Democrats or Liberals get control of a house, the first thing they think of, is what can they strip off and sell to make a personal gain. Hillary sold secrets and Uranium, Trudeau and Liberals sell access to markets, and surrenders our minerals. Same old same old, socialists have to get theirs before they can construct Utopia.
