The blog upgrade – platform move is about to get underway today, as we transition from the ever-deteriorating Movable Type over to WordPress. The goal is to keep the blog as close to the original in design and layout as is possible, but with improved commenting and publishing function.
It may go well, it may go… badly. In all likelihood the old content of SDA will be archived, and we’ll start anew with a clean database. But, I don’t know. At any rate, cross your fingers all goes well. If the blog goes dark, it’s because we’re working on it. If it’s unreachable for a few days, it’s because we broke something. If that happens, I’ll keep you all updated through my twitter account
Thanks to everyone who’s contributed their time and donations towards SDA over the past few months — your support is appreciated, and it’s long past time we provided you a site with cleaner functionality.
Wish us luck, because we’re going to need it.

At the risk of offering up gratuitous advice, the watchwords should be “keep it clean and simple” and beware enticements to add “improvements”. More buttons and bells is not necessarily “progress”.

I, for one, have NO Facebook account, and I won’t sign up for WordPress or Discuss … I have always appreciated the (relative) anonymity of SDA … yeah, Kate and Lance can easily discover my “true” identity … but I actually TRUST them both. A handshake kind of TRUST that you can have with people of integrity. I completely TRUST a woman who posts what Kate posts, intelligent, reasoned, measured, clever-as-hell, and to my eternal delight … snarky (Lance too). What I call … salt of the earth kind of people. I feel similarly about many, many, of my fellow SDA commentators. I feel no such thing about the leftist ghouls who operate the pages of Facebook, Discuss, or WordPress. I hope I can remain after the change. I quite enjoy the whole lot of ya. Good luck with the upgrade.

There are folks that are saying what Facebook, Twitter, Discus, WordPress, Typepad need is for a conservative pushback, and deleting or not participating in their platforms, amounts to allowing yourself to be shuffled out the social media door without so much as a whimper.
I like to argue back, be a participant, I get that you do as well in your many enjoyable to read comments here at SDA, and note that Rush, Levin, Hannity are still posting regularly on Facebook for these similar reasons. While Pamela Geller, Lauren Southern, Jordan Peterson, are still using Facebook somewhat regularly, though I do think they’re being muted by the overlords.

K.K , since you are pretty literate and make a lot of sense, it pains me somewhat to correct you. However, some things must be done. Before I make my comment I wish to clarify that I am not above error myself, my dear old Mother (who was a country school teacher) that says it all, used to carefully monitor my speech until she expired at 90, I was then 65. Ennyhoo, in this case the word is “bated” not baited.
Says ‘Grumps’ … Ha ha ha. Yeah, I’m just a Luddite (aboot some things). I should change my name to Grumpy … since our cultural decay makes me quite grumpy. Yeah, I am starting to sound like my John Birch Society member grandmother.

I have no doubt that I am not the only SDA’er whose livelihood and/or business relationships could be jeopardized by ‘outing’ my personal conservative views. I have already paid enough dues for challenging leftarded in-laws, neighbors, etc.
Also, virtually everything about the Liberals that this very site has taught me tells me that anyone commenting pro-conservative views by name would be immediately put on a list and targeted. You would certainly lose me as a commentor.(ha, I can hear some cheering already)
As Kenji already stated, I have no problem in Kate or lance knowing who Canadian Observer really is(they already know from my personal emails), but my trust in humanity STOPS THERE.
At the corporation where I work they recently changed network file storage to “SharePoint”. What a clusterfark. Files disappearing. Files not syncing. So not user friendly. Single worst roll out of an IT project I’ve ever seen. I know its not the same but may your transition go much smoothe Kate.
