    Burton Cummings has one the most distinctive, unique, Rock Voices of all time (yeah, and he can croon some of those schmaltzy ballads as well).

    In the check-in line and afterwards on board the full plane we met our Canadian Saskatchewan consultant, a Swede who was going to help farmers learn how to handle cows, a couple of Congolese diplomats, British journalists, a Russian establishing art exchanges, a teacher from Liverpool and, from the sound of the different accents, people from several other countries.
    Upon arrival we had an unexpected experience. In the lobby of our guesthouse hotel was a large muscular fellow who was clearly not Korean. We asked where he was from and he said Hawaii. We were curious as to why there might be other Americans here and became more curious when he told us he was a Major with the U.S. Military. He was there with his unit on a joint project with the North Koreans to recover remains of U.S. soldiers during the Korean War. This seemed strange as we had been led to believe that we were on the verge of war with this country. Further discussions over the next few days with the soldiers in the unit served as important corroboration for our observations. The soldiers indicated that the DPRK was not what they had been led to expect, that people were very friendly to them and that they had traveled extensively in the countryside and the people appeared well fed. As we would also discover, they said. “Crops were growing everywhere,” In addition, it was surprising that the DPRK permitted the soldiers to install and use a radio to communicate with each other and the U.S. in our Pyongyang guest house.
    Before leaving we had read articles that claimed that this “hermit kingdom” had no power at night and was a dark spot from space. President Bush presents this map in speeches to claim that “the light of freedom” shines only in the South. Yet, we would learn over the next few nights, and even later that evening, that this too was an exaggeration. We had power throughout the other nights of our visit, and with the exception of an occasional rolling blackout for a few minutes, the lights do shine in Pyongyang. We also saw lights on in blocks of apartment buildings as we drove through Pyongyang at night. We suspect that the photo from space was taken during one of the blackouts.

The sticking points are not dairy, or lumber, they are the ability of China and Asian countries shipping their cheap stuff to Canada and Mexico, and then Canada and Mexico claim it as domestic tariff free trade.

And Randy Bachman easily belongs on yesterday’s list of great and influential guitarists along with his mentor Lenny Breau. That’s where those jazz runs that Bachman throws in come from. You can hear the Lenny Breau influence on a song like Undun.

From a strictly capitalist viewpoint, Graham provided fair and quality services in exchange for a fair price. If … if … Graham willingly and knowingly emptied grannies entire pension … then he will be having quite a conversation with St. Peter today. I would HOPE that Graham was enough of a TRULY Godly man that he would have put measures into place to LITERALLY refund donations made by impulsive, and perhaps mentally incapable elders who got carried-away. If not … then he should burn in Hell for the greedy and wanton destruction of vulnerable people and families. But beware the media-Hollywood complex for creation the meme of universally dishonest preachers. Yeah, yeah, Jim and Tammy Faye Baker (and theeeee, uh, a Revvvvvvrend Jackson) Indeed there ARE scammers and interlopers who have USED Christ as a vehicle for personal wealth, but I never ever got that impression from Graham. He appeared to have lived a life of integrity and belief. Rest comfortably in the arms of Christ, Mr. Graham … for a long life lived with (from all I could see) integrity and faith.
