  1. This is a huge insult to any normal person who works for living. But what can you expect from someone who thinks 200,000 thousand to move Butthead from Toronto to Ottawa is reasonable. They will keep doing it as long as we bend over .

  2. Everything that wrong with Trudeau’s Gov’t is encapsulated in that silly chunk of ice. $2.4MM to build an outdoor hockey rink?!!! $2.1MM to operate it for a few months of the year?!!! $422M in ADMIN costs?!!! And a youth hockey tournament flying people in from across the country BUT it was too damn cold to even use. I’m sure there were the requisite but brief photo ops of quickly numbing hockey small frys before they froze into a McCain’s grocery product. But how dumb, crooked or both do you have to be to spend $8.1MM to have an outside ice rink?
Here’s a site that sells small and medium sized refrigerated portable ice rinks: https://canada.ironsleek.com/portable-refrigerated-rinks
The estimated cost (materials/setup/operation) for a medium sized (30 by 60) outdoor rink (roughly 1/9th the area of an NHL 85×200 rink) was about $50M for one season. So increasing the area proportionally gets the cost to $450M and upgrading the boards to something better for hockey, having benches and rubber matted areas to change skates, porta potty rentals, lighting, security (already onsite) and ice care (rent an old Zamboni for gawdsakes) maybe the cost doubles to $900M because it’s outside of Parliament and has to look the part but that still would get a pretty nice weather independent rink. Or just forego the refrigeration, flood nightly and scrape every few hours during the day for a fraction of that cost. Makes you wonder how the heck hundreds of communities around Canada operate their outdoor rinks for next to nothing. Crooked Losers.

  3. As erstwhile Minister of Sport Kent Hehr should do penance by personally and manually removing snow from this rink. They could probably sell tickets.

  4. Just curious … did your Government purchase a fleet of brand new Tesla ELECTRIC Zambonis for the rink ? Just to remind everyone how to be “good stewards” of the planet ?

  5. Again, why do you think they don’t like the death penalty? Why do you think they worked very hard to make sure judges, the crown, police, etc. could not be held personally responsible via lawsuits for wrongful conviction, bad policy, …

  6. I see Rick Fideli is named interim leader of the Tories. In my opinion the Conservatives should do their best to convince John Baird to be the leader . His campaign slogan could be very simple see how a gay man can run the government better than a gay woman.

  7. Folks it’s Ottawa. These people arn’t from our world. A maintenance contract was lent to some firm probably from quebek. Now it needs to be extended. These things cost money.
This isn’t small town Canada where volunteers flood and sweep the rink. No sir. This is Ottawa where orange juice cost $16 and a burger $70.
