Art Of The Deal

We’re doomed.
From the comments“As far as the cancelling of NAFTA is concerned it might be a good idea to wake Canadians up to the fact that Liberals are no friend of industry and freedom of anything never mind trade. The current “Progressive” Liberal government and even more progressive NDP governments are doing their best to stop resource trade from reaching our eastern and western shores. So why should Trump worry about our trade, especially if his crude oil refiners can get our oil at a discount. It is not Trumps fault that we can’t get pipeline to our coasts.”

  1. NAFTA may go away, but is it necessary for a trade deal with the US to include Mexico?

  2. So. Much. WINNING!
It’s almost as if the Republican Party didn’t even exist prior to the election of MY President.
Sorry Canada, that you have such a tough “talking” PM with absolutely ZERO substance. Time for him to pull up his sockks along with his pull up diapers, and face facts … he is OUT OF HIS DEPTH, Donnie. It’s Donald JOHN Trump, Donnie … not John Donald Trump !

  3. So. Much. WINNING!
Yeah, here’s some more ‘winning’…only not for you.
    https://news.antiwar.com/2018/01/19/trump-signs-bill-renewing-warrantless-nsa-surveillance/
After passing the House last week and the Senate on Thursday, President Trump has signed the FISA 702 bill, renewing the section of FISA that allows the NSA to engage in mass surveillance of Americans’ Internet communications without a warrant.
The bill faced some bipartisan resistance, as promised reforms and safeguards never materialized, or were dismissed by Congressional leadership on the grounds that they would weaken the broad ability of the NSA to operate unchecked with Americans’ data.
President Trump claimed the bill is “the right thing for our country,” but falsely claimed this is “not the same FISA law that was so wrongly abused during the election,” even though the bill is for all intents and purposes identical to the previous version.

  4. Well, CAW is doomed; but I am fine with that. What other union jobs are guaranteed to go down the memory hole when NAFTA is gone? The first premier to get ahead of this and declare themselves a US state is the winner. But, only a premier who cared about their province ahead of Ontario and Quebec would do that. In short, we all be boned.

  5. Great job of unbiased reporting, you Reuter hacks.
They unfairly claim Trump is the cause of every trade challenge and then they completely fail to mention Trudeau’s attempts to turn trade negotiations into a socialist workshop on minority rights. This constant spinning of the news is getting so tiresome.

  6. I’m absolutely going to read something from “news.antiwar.com” uncritically and take it as objective reporting! /sarc

  7. Brit Hume is right. Weekend polls showed Americans were opposed to the inclusion of a “dreamer clause” by Dems and Schumer read the tea leaves.

Besides, a strong US helps in a spinoff manner make and supports a strong Canada even it our UEL and increasingly Marxist based US haters can’t stomach the thought.
Edward Teach is right, why does a trade deal have to Mexico so that good paying jobs from both Canada and the US can be moved to Mexico.

  8. I wrote here long time ago that Nafta is dead. It has been the declared intention of this US administration to go for bilateral agreements – no mystery there . If Canada would have serious negotiators they would prioritize plan B from the start. Either Trudeau wants to cash politically on anti-American sentiment in segments of Canadian populace or simply incompetence. Would you buy a car from Christa Freeland?

  9. Why does Canada send a “Foreign Affairs” minister to negotiate a trade deal, while the US & Mexico send Economic-Trade leaders?
No wonder the US wants out?

  10. Trump isn’t a “light bender” that implies deception, he’s a light bringer, and the cockroaches scatter at his approach.

  11. Anything that hastens the demise of this socialist, statist shithole of a country is a good thing.3300

  12. Sorry Canada, that you have such a tough “talking” PM with absolutely ZERO substance.
Oh, he’s a tough guy, all right. After all, he promised he’d “stare down” Putin in a confrontation. The millennials in the audience that heard that proclamation probably swooned in admiration.
Meanwhile, Vladdy is probably thinking of what sort of twit he might have to deal with in such a setting.

  13. “Would you buy a car from Christa Freeland?”
I wouldn’t trust her to walk my dog.

  14. Well, one thing is quite evident from the NAFTA negotiations: Trump and turdo la doo care equally about Canada.

  15. NOTE: To my fellow SDA commenters … I apologize for providing the opening for a certain fellow to repeat the same old, tired, grumblings about something that has become an automatic action for the US Congress. Yes, the faucet is still dripping. I shall be more cautious about tightening the valve in the future.

  16. Oh she could walk my dog, alright.
    However.
I would be amazed if she didn’t step in “anything”…..

  17. The Canadian media fails the Canadian public so tremendously on this. One could watch TV news and scour National Newswatch daily for months, and never come across a mention of Trump’s insistence upon Canada meeting our NATO commitments as part of free trade. There is also precious little, if any, mention of Trudeau’s insistence upon including terms favorable ONLY to Mexico in the deal, as well.
Instead, we hear how American trade negotiators are backwoods types who dismiss offhand Juthtin’s demands for indigenous and LGBTQLMNOP rights as part of the trade deal.
    Wow.

  18. Well said , as was Canadian Observer’s comment above. But then the Canadian media has not told the truth about anything damaging to the Liberals for ages.

  19. As it happens, I happen to agree with you, which may come as a complete shock (Ha! Ha!)
Accordingly, I have no interest in giving offence, but, in light of all of this news, I had the opportunity to ask my sister earlier today whether she felt that these negotiations would even be going on, at this stage, if Brian Mulroney were still Prime Minster?
    “No.”
CBC archives Mulroney Turner Free Trade Debate
We both remain very strong supporters of Mr. Mulroney.

  20. “The Canadian media fails the Canadian public so tremendously on this. ..”
Indeed. Back in July when turdo la doo visited Washington, Trump dismissed the little twerp as a lightweight and sent him off to play with Ivanka and the girls in the dollhouse. And our stupid, shallow and besotted press came up with the theory that this was actually good news.

  21. The Canadian negotiating team and the government it represents, has a habit of not expressing what it’s willing to give in order to keep NAFTA in place.
It’s because of that reason that Trump knows he’s going to come out on top.
It’s not what Trump is asking for or what Sock Monkey is saying he wants in the agreement that matters. Its that Trump knows Canada needs NAFTA more than the US does.

  22. Back in the 60’s we signed the Autopac with the US It turned out to be very favorable to Canada.
Nafta was the same. Reagan liked Mulroney and Canada got a good deal.
Things have changed. The US is righting the ship.
Bongo has dropped the ball on the Chinese trade deal, TPP and NAFTA.

  23. Bongo has dropped the ball on the Chinese trade deal, TPP and NAFTA.
And why should he worry about it? His income and lifestyle won’t be affected by it and Soapie can keep partying at Ag Khan’s place. (“Hello, Ag? Can I crash at your place?” “Who are you again?”)

  24. “…Would you buy a car from Christa Freeland?”
No thanks, don’t want an electric car.

  25. I think a deal will be reached, it just won’t be Nafta. Our economies are very integrated.
Things like supply management will have to be sacrificed at some point. TPP is demanding the same terms.

  26. Bongo is so stupid, that he doesnt realize that the Autopact is int he crosshairs of POTUS.
And Morontariowe is Liberal central. The fact that PM Stupid Socks would jeapardize his union base, shows how fundamentally unprepared and stupid he really is, along with his “crack negotiating team”, which includes the Lipstick pig

  27. No shock here and no offense taken now or previously. I always read your comments and did check out the CBC link.
I disagree about Mulroney though, although I suspect that you and your sister are correct about the negotiations. He was good for Canada and I supported him strongly until the F-18 maintenance contract went to a Quebec company rather than the low bidder Winnipeg company. The enthusiasm dissipated.

  28. Put aside for a moment whether NAFTA or TPP is good, bad or irrelevant to Canada.
Look who is at the helm. Someone who can’t act his way out of a paper bag, wet or dry.
Who pays for it ultimately? The idiot electorate that doesn’t realise how screwed the country is.

  29. The F-18 decision didn’t hurt him that much, particularly in western Canada. Lyin’ Bryan was returned to office in 1988, not that the alternative was any better.

  30. “Make no mistake: Schumer & Dems caved. What a political fiasco.” Brit Hume
Why be surprised.. Brit & his cohorts just read the Teleprompter, they don’t understand a thing
The term Dreamers was a construct of Democrat Hispanics (Think of the Children) activists who wanted action by the Democrats.. These Children are on average 27 years old, They have free loaded along with their parents & other family members for 20 + years… free Schooling, Free Medical , Free welfare and Free College admissions,,,, The parents have paid no Federal Taxation & live in Sanctuary Cities and States… They are the SLAVES of the 21st Century for (Dixiecrat) Democrats…. We don’t need Sanctuary cities if we don’t have illegal Aliens (SLAVES) in the shadows
    1. These Dreamers stole a FREE pass to all of America & now they want legality…
    2. The parents of these Dreamers are guilty of any claimed abuse, they cheated the system
    3. The Dreamers are being used as a foothold into Immigration for the whole family.. chain immigration would also reward the parents with legal status….
    B) The media & (Fake) poling have misrepresented the Illegal immigration issue. The dreamers have made out like the bandits they are… when they fly the Mexican Flags & demonstrate against America the truth becomes more obvious..
Republican have the winning position, and Schumer F&*& up

  31. So , yes we’re doomed. With all due respect, it is not helpful to call the electorate idiots when we’re trapped in corruption. I can’t accept this fed gov as legit, they did not campaign on the stuff that they are doing because they knew we refused agenda 21 with S. DION. I think this was a cheating game 100%. Question.. what are we going to do now? They must go. People did NOT vote for that man or party. It can’t be.
Sometimes everything has to get worse before it can get better.
    ” ” ” ” be torn down ” ” ” be rebuilt!
Sean Hannity @ Fox sometimes closes his show with a statement that occasionally, mostly makes one feel better… hope this helps you, the reader, but we still need to fix our problems…sean says:
“Let not your heart be troubled”

  32. Liberals/NDP are no friend to Canadians PERIOD. Be it the Military, the oft quoted Middle Class or Industry (Bombardier notwithstanding – however they are in the freebie Industry..SOLEY),
Todays Liberals/NDP are nothing short of Virtue signalling Marxist Carpetbaggers…determined to financially rape first, then kill this country.
We reap today, all the “benefits” of Trudeau Senior and his MultiCult Pro Communist leanings…embodied in his disgusting spawn.
    Beyond mad…I am.

  33. dont sweat it kenji, in canuckistan a dripping faucet is de rigeur in some instances, like when global warming reaching down into the ground and turns the liquid H2O into solid. for some strange reason the global warming was so bad this winter in my town there were a noticeable number of folks getting no water at all. letting the faucet drip is the remedy.
