This is a great article, and everyone should understand the concept. Why do progressives feel so certain that others will just love us and fall in line once we have shown them the light?

All kidding aside, I agree with you. Those who want to integrate and adopt our ways will. My parents and I came from Europe but we were determined to make a new home in Canada, though it took us a few years to figure out how things were done here.
I’m sure our adoption of Canadian ways was made easier by the fact that we were from Europe. There were, of course, differences between the culture we were born into and the one we were living in, but we learned.
Unfortunately, those who determine Canadian immigration policy don’t seem to understand what we went through and, despite occasional errors or difficulties, we not only became citizens, we were successful in making a life here.

Until you have been immersed and lived day to day in a radically different culture and worldview it is well nigh impossible to understand how radically differently some people can view the world and their norms of interpersonal and social obligation. At a certain level, people do have similar basic aspirations — to live a happy, prosperous life and pass this on to their children. But their perceptions of the road to that goal can be as different as night and day.
It raises the issue of “critical mass” with respect to immigration. One may be able to absorb a small number of individuals from these dysfunctional (anti-prosperity) cultures into Canada, but once a critical mass are imported the dysfunctional culture becomes self-sustaining within the host country and that can create huge problems for the host country while leaving the members of the immigrant group little or no better off in real terms than they were in the country they left. As I’ve said before elsewhere, I’m fine with multi ethnicity. I am vehemently opposed to multiculturalism.

While Trump is in fact denying that he used that term, it is good that it has come out as it forces people to look carefully at what is going on. People are being brought in from countries that do not share our values and that will sooner or later reduce the quality of life in Canada. Canadians have been warned but they choose to ignore the reality. If you live in a wealthy neighborhood you probably don’t have a lot to worry about, but if you live in poorer neighborhood you are likely to see increased poverty, crime, violence and just a general disruption as seems to have happened with this high rise.
I will never forget the day one of my co-workers returned from a foreign assignment. He being of the progressive persuasion never missed a chance to critically assess any conservative particularly taking aim at PMSH and Mike Harris. On his return to Canada and at the first opportunity to speak frankly he remarked that the folks that come here should kiss the ground when they arrive here.
Since then I’ve seen a noticeable change in his demeanor that would suggest his world view has moved to the right.

All my leftist friends who had bragged about living the multi-culti “lifestyle” in Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco … were walking up the sidewalk with me. It seems they REFUSED to raise their children in the shithole school districts of Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco. They REFUSED to allow their children to grow up on the mean streets, dodging bullets, and discarded needles of the shittiest multicultural neighborhoods in the Bay Area. All their “talk” about multiculturalism had evaporated as they “walked” their children into the lillywhite schoolhouse.
My leftist friends all proudly displayed signed copies of HER “It takes a Village” on their Boba Tea tables. But they had all escaped “The Village” to save their own children’s lives. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, LindaL, as I don’t know what part of the country you live in but my part of Canada has already seen a reduction in quality of life. When you bring in untold migrants and refugees under the premise of compassion, charity and good-will without an afterthought of how to integrate these charity cases then there is an automatic reduction across the spectrum. Actually when I first saw Tijuana I thought “It is never cold here, is it?” When I first saw Nogales I thought “They don’t do zoning regulations in Mexico.”

At a certain level, people do have similar basic aspirations — to live a happy, prosperous life and pass this on to their children. But their perceptions of the road to that goal can be as different as night and day.
It raises the issue of “critical mass” with respect to immigration. One may be able to absorb a small number of individuals from these dysfunctional (anti-prosperity) cultures into Canada, but once a critical mass are imported the dysfunctional culture becomes self-sustaining within the host country and that can create huge problems for the host country while leaving the members of the immigrant group little or no better off in real terms than they were in the country they left. As I’ve said before elsewhere, I’m fine with multi ethnicity. I am vehemently opposed to multiculturalism.
I am tired of everyone who has this near universal false premise that anyone to the left ever had good intentions.

While Trump is in fact denying that he used that term, it is good that it has come out as it forces people to look carefully at what is going on. People are being brought in from countries that do not share our values and that will sooner or later reduce the quality of life in Canada. Canadians have been warned but they choose to ignore the reality. If you live in a wealthy neighborhood you probably don’t have a lot to worry about, but if you live in poorer neighborhood you are likely to see increased poverty, crime, violence and just a general disruption as seems to have happened with this high rise.
I will never forget the day one of my co-workers returned from a foreign assignment. He being of the progressive persuasion never missed a chance to critically assess any conservative particularly taking aim at PMSH and Mike Harris. On his return to Canada and at the first opportunity to speak frankly he remarked that the folks that come here should kiss the ground when they arrive here.
Since then I’ve seen a noticeable change in his demeanor that would suggest his world view has moved to the right.
I learned EVERYTHING I needed to know about multiculturalism on the way to my children’s elementary school open house. The wife and I sold everything we we owned and mortgaged our own future to “afford” a home in one of the nicest, safest, communities in the SF Bay Area … with one of the highest ranked public school districts in the nation (let alone CA). Yeah, it is a lillywhite monoculture of highly-educated Executives … but I have never been troubled by self-loathing like my Leftist friends. I have never had an interest in anything other than “my people’s” culture.
But on the way to my own children’s very first open house, back to school, night … I saw a funny thing. All my leftist friends who had bragged about living the multi-culti “lifestyle” in Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco … were walking up the sidewalk with me. It seems they REFUSED to raise their children in the shithole school districts of Oakland, Berkeley, and San Francisco. They REFUSED to allow their children to grow up on the mean streets, dodging bullets, and discarded needles of the shittiest multicultural neighborhoods in the Bay Area. All their “talk” about multiculturalism had evaporated as they “walked” their children into the lillywhite schoolhouse.
My leftist friends all proudly displayed signed copies of HER “It takes a Village” on their Boba Tea tables. But they had all escaped “The Village” to save their own children’s lives. Insincerity is when you say one thing, but do another. Hypocrisy is when you “talk the talk”, but “walk” in the opposite direction. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, LindaL, as I don’t know what part of the country you live in but my part of Canada has already seen a reduction in quality of life. When you bring in untold migrants and refugees under the premise of compassion, charity and good-will without an afterthought of how to integrate these charity cases then there is an automatic reduction across the spectrum. I could go on but I’d be preaching to the choir.

Actually when I first saw Tijuana I thought “It is never cold here, is it?” When I first saw Nogales I thought “They don’t do zoning regulations in Mexico.”
After I saw a bit more, I concluded that Mexicans just don’t get building. They do it, but the design part, they don’t get it. Also they seem to love building stuff up the sides of hills. No roads, just steps. God help you if you ever broke a leg.
