U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened to cut off financial aid to countries that vote in favor of a draft United Nations resolution calling for the United States to withdraw its decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
“They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars, and then they vote against us. Well, we’re watching those votes. Let them vote against us. We’ll save a lot. We don’t care,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

It simply proposed a partition plan for Mandate Palestine that involved the creation of two states, a Jewish one and an Arab one with the city of Jerusalem under international trusteeship. Jewish Palestinians accepted the plan; Arab Palestinians, backed by the Arab League, rejected it.
And so, when the British Mandate expired on 14 May 1948, Jewish Palestinians declared the State of Israel. In response, four Arab states attacked Israel. The result was disaster for the Arabs with the Israelis not only retaining their portion of Palestine as allotted by the failed UN partition plan but also enlarging their territory.
