Reader Tips

I left Orlando about 5pm on Sunday, and after overnighting with a friend near Augusta, GA, rolled into Regina last night. I covered 1,030 miles on Monday and another 992 miles Tuesday — driving solo.
Though we didn’t win them all, the show overall was a success and we finished the year with “Raylan” ranked #1 Miniature Schnauzers, all systems. I’ll find some photos later to post.
But first I need sleep. Blogging will ramp up tomorrow, though don’t expect too much excitement over the Christmas holidays.
Sweet — Ballroom Blitz. Thread open.

  1. I don’t watch CBC but the news came on after the British cooking show tonight and BE SURE to watch the Trudeau segment. No one should miss it, those of us who didn’t vote for him and those who did.

  2. Kate, welcome home. It is good that you arrived home safely. You did good. Congratulations.

  3. 2000 miles in two days! You, ma’am, are a true Road Warrior of the highest order. Awesome!

  4. I can’t say enough about an epic drive, but moreover, I’m glad you’re home safely. Best wishes from Montana.

  5. Ballroom Blitz….. That song was on the charts when I returned to university to start my junior undergrad year. I don’t recall attending a residence keg party when it wasn’t being played on someone’s stereo set.
    Ah, the memories…..

  6. Kate, I have to doff my chapeau to you for your driving.
Earlier this year, I made a lot of road trips from Edmonton to my house in northern B. C. as part of settling my father’s estate. Each time, I drove nearly 700 km each way and did so by myself, taking over 7 hours.
More than 3000 km in 2 days make my trips pale by comparison!

  7. Kate. Maybe back in my 20’s I could drive those distances but those days are LONG gone. I drove Van to Calgary this fall and was all proud of myself. To complete what you did your first day I’d have to keep going to Swift Current?? Ha. Nope!
Regarding the highly unethical PM of ours I found it interesting how the media reported it. You could make the case this is the biggest political story in our country this year. But CTV Calgary decided there was 20 minutes of “news” more worthy and Global Calgary chose the bottom of the hour to report. Both decided that a cell tower on fire was the TOP story then the big dump of snow that had the same old bla bla story line about traffic etc. Then the ya da ya da weather guy and a Christmasy story or two and only after those did we hear about poor Justin.
Somehow i dont think that’s how it would of played out if it were Harper.

  8. That there was a good drive girl well done and glad you got the results you work so hard for. Have a good rest and have a Happy and Merry Christmas you, Lance and all your families.
More years ago than I care to think about I drove Daytona to Maine in one, for a Brit driving wrong side of the road and having to stick to 50 was a pain and hard work but I was well pleased with myself even if was tired and scared a few yanks on the way.

  9. Welcome back Kate!
Seven of Canada’s eight largest public pension funds have much of their money invested in off-shore tax havens. The money quote from Jim Leech, former CEO of OTPP:
“Thirty years ago, when all investments were in Canada by those pension plans, they didn’t need to structure things through the Bahamas. We can go back to that, and the pensioners will get half their pension.”
Will the Shiny Pony go after Canada’s public pensions that are using off-shore tax havens to avoid paying tax?

  10. Laureen Harper is a ‘ cat lady ‘. When they occupied the prime ministers residence @24 Sussex Drive in Ottawa the place was full of cats…what more can be said?

  11. Note to all of the above. Kate said 1030 miles and 992 miles. That makes 1657.624 kilometers and 1596.469 kilometers. That is really wanting to get home. I haven’t driven that much in one day since I was in my fifties.

  14. I whine about 60 and 70 mile round trips for golf much less cross country.
One of my foursome raises dogs, sort of homely Cairn-like terriers on stilts. I had no idea about the intricacies, trials and tribulations of showing dogs. I’d rather golf. P.S. I’m looking for a male long-haired Chihuahua. Hard to differentiate puppy kills from reputable breeders on line.

But as damning as Dawson’s report is, Trudeau’s fumbling response to a question from the CBC’s Rosemary Barton might cause the most political damage.”
“It’s the video clip from hell and it came after Barton pointed out that the prime minister took a free holiday from someone he considers a friend.
Then Barton asked why Trudeau didn’t recogize “this might not have been okay”.

  17. The people who object to killing cougars aren’t people in the country whose kids walk to catch the schoolbus. I’m not sure I could fight one off. I had one hanging around. It must have been a female in heat. It sounded like a crying human baby with a pitchfork stuck in it.

  18. A bit late for the tips thread, but it will be instructive to see how our UN Ambassador votes later today on the resolution about the US Embassy move to Jerusalem.
The US Ambassador said, “We’ll be taking names.” of those who vote against the US (as they should). I’ll actually be surprised if our government actually supports the US. I expect them to abstain, being irresolute cowards and all.

  19. Welcome home Kate … (I can see the smile on Lance’s face … all the way here in N.CA) … glad you get to do what you love. In the margins of your (still groovy) Sweet tune is one of my favorite songs of all time … which STILL gets airplay on the classic 70’s Rock stations (imagine that … a “Disco” tune that gets airtime on a ROCK station) … https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zRgWvvkSvfk
Love is like … ox-Y-gen … you get too much, you get too high … not enough, and you’re gonna dieeee.
Hope you and Lance are sharing plenty of love.

    https://www.steynonline.com/8340/we-are-the-bollards
One of the problems with bollarding off pedestrians behind a wall of Diversity Bollards is that they still occasionally have to emerge from behind the bollards to cross the street, and it’s hard to bollard off a pedestrian crossing. In this case, the non-terror-related Australian citizen simply waited until the little green sign indicated it was safe for pedestrians to cross the street and then floored it. In an amusing touch, his car eventually came to a rest against a bollard.

  27. From what I have read Queen Sophie was the impetus behind the vacation with Aga Khan. I guess that’s a good indication of who wears the pants in that family.

  29. “Year One List: 81 major Trump achievements, 11 Obama legacy items repealed
With the passage of the GOP tax bill this week, the Trump administration has scored 81 major achievements in its first year, making good on campaign promises to provide significant tax cuts, boost U.S. energy production, and restore respect to the United States, according to the White House.
And along the way, President Trump even outdid his own expectations and slashed at least 11 major legacy items of former President Barack Obama, including cracking down on the open border, slowing recognition of communist Cuba and effectively killing Obamacare by ending the mandate that everyone have health insurance or face a tax.
According to the White House, the 81 accomplishments are in 12 major categories and include well over 100 other minor achievements.”

  30. Queen Sophie
That makes at least 3 queens that this country has.
There’s Her Canadian Majesty who’s our head of state. There’s her recently-appointed representative who now lives in Rideau Hall, or at least she acts like she’s one. And then there’s the one in 24 Sussex.
No wonder nothing seems to get done in this country.
