CNN ran a fact check declaring: “Trump asks Japan to build cars in the U.S. It already does.”

Here’s the full context of Trump’s remarks to leaders of Toyota and Mazda (emphasis added):
When you want to build your auto plants, you will have your approvals almost immediately. When you want to expand your plants, you will have your approvals almost immediately. And in the room, we have a couple of the great folks from two of the biggest auto companies in the world that are building new plants and doing expansions of other plants. And you know who you are, and I want to just thank you very much. I want to thank you.
I also want to recognize the business leaders in the room whose confidence in the United States — they’ve been creating jobs — you have such confidence in the United States, and you’ve been creating jobs for our country for a long, long time. Several Japanese automobile industry firms have been really doing a job. And we love it when you build cars — if you’re a Japanese firm, we love it — try building your cars in the United States instead of shipping them over. Is that possible to ask? That’s not rude. Is that rude? I don’t think so. (Laughter.) If you could build them. But I must say, Toyota and Mazda — where are you? Are you here, anybody? Toyota? Mazda? I thought so. Oh, I thought that was you. That’s big stuff. Congratulations. Come on, let me shake your hand. (Applause.) They’re going to invest $1.6 billion in building a new manufacturing plant, which will create as many as 4,000 new jobs in the United States. Thank you very much. Appreciate it.Trump has also tweeted about Toyota and Mazda building that plant. And he signed a letter applauding Toyota for its expansion in the United States.

I see that the CNN article changed its headlines. They no longer claim Trump was factually challenged.
Ho hum, fake news from a fake news station.
I dislike our president immensely, but CNN even more. Everyone should argue from logical conclusions made from AUTHORITATIVE sources, not from Dan Rather-ish hissy-fitty-ism.

The former Asia adviser to George W Bush, Dennis Wilder, told the FT that the Trump Administration is seeking a response to China’s “Belt and Road”.
Dennis Wilder, former, said Mr Trump was trying to find a way to respond to Chinese efforts to build economic and security ties across Asia. “The concept of a free and open Indo-Pacific region is a maritime centric concept that goes back to the great naval thinker [Admiral] Mahan,” said Mr Wilder.

I watched Trump’s speech so don’t have to rely on the media liars to spin it for me.
It was clear Trump stated it would be good if more American cars (for the Dem fools’ selective hearing, Fords, GMs, Chryslers) were sold in Japan.
These anti-democracy Democrats can’t shoot straight at all; now their aim is so bad they’re shooting themselves and each other in the foot.
Which is quite dangerous for their personal safety given they regularly put their foot in their mouth.
Let’s hope Toyota builds the 79 series land cruiser in North America and the highly coveted Hilux both left hand drive. Here’s hoping and praying I need my overlanding rig.

Nevah happen, GI. The Nips are more patriotic than the Yanks are.
They are the reason that Japan has not already declared national bankruptcy.
They do not buy foreign anything if that ‘thing’ is made in Japan.
I’m not arguing it will happen, that Japan will start importing thousands of NA cars, just what Trump actually said.
Then again you never know; Trump the persuader may pull this off too.
So in the end, Trump is still an idiot who seriously believes that imports are somehow a bad thing and trade deficits actually exist?
