Christ Church in Alexandria, Virginia will take down a memorial marking the pew where Washington sat with his family, saying it is not acceptable to all worshipers.
“The plaques in our sanctuary make some in our presence feel unsafe or unwelcome,” leaders said, a reference to the fact that Washington was a slaveholder.

Surely many of those who attend this church regularly are offended by this. Why are they not speaking out? I would think an effective strategy would be to withhold donations. Is the church not concerned about offending those who disagree with this move? Our ties to history are being destroyed by ignorance.
How long before we have the same here? We are on that track right now,the insidious act of taking Christmas concerts out of our schools and toning down on Christmas in public places was the start.

When people go to a Church building to be amongst like-minded Saints there are always those who feel offended by Jesus and the cross He hung on. Given the all-woman priesthood at this church, it’s quite possible that a lot of the originals have left. The Episcopal Church in the US (ECUSA) is very fractured right now, with the more orthodox going to the American Anglican Council. Whole parishes left ECUSA, and many found themselves forced to leave the church buildings in which they and their ancestors had worshiped for many years when ECUSA launched vicious lawsuits to claim said buildings (even though it was the local congregations which had built and maintained same). There is also the Anglican Church in North America which is related in some way to the AAC, but I’m not certain how.
It would be interesting to ascertain if this particular church is one which has been taken over by ECUSA through lawsuits.
