  1. I’ve noticed on failbook that everyone of my liberal friends are against this. We all knew Trudeau was a fool but this is pretty surprising to me. I thought it’d be a big corruption scandal that would take them down, not some policy decisions.

  2. This is how it’ll go:
“Mr. Trudeau! Small business owners are revolting!”
    “Yes, aren’t they?”

  3. speaking of monsieur turdeux, I was on the horn last nite during the news item about n koreas latest launch over japan, enquiring what the dauphin thinks of said norks.
pointed out how he himself stated admiration for communist chirese seeing how dictatorships can get things done on the quick. also pointed out they are basically n koreas ONLY ally.
also pointed out the dauphins articulated admiration and deep love for fidel whose machinations put the world on the brink back in 1963.
admiration for communist dictatorships and the nuke connection. so do tell lieberal mp, what is m turdeux’s view on this most recent hostile and dangerous action by the norks? hmmm?

  4. Strange thing is, haven’t seen much outcry here in BC about Spuds tax grab. Must be a lot of business owners still blinded by Selfiemania, thinking they’re too wealthy anyways. That’s the Liberal mindset

  5. I think the liberals will try to ride this one out and they’ll probably succeed. The one group this will definitely have no affect on is the public service with their can’t be fired, golden pension plan life. They represent 40% of voters nowadays anyway and can be relied upon to vote in a block, at least more so than others.

  6. Liberals protest day and night in the streets to get more stuff and Conservatives rally in parking lots during lunchtime to keep their stuff.

Same here in Ontario. Nothing in the Ontario Chamber of Commerce’s media releases: http://www.occ.ca/media-releases/
And nohing in the press releases (surprise, surprise) of the Ontario federation of Agriculture. Just a note in its homepage sidebar urging farmers to contact their MP. https://ofa.on.ca/media/news/act-now-tell-mps-that%20farmers-won%e2%80%99t-stand-for-proposed-tax-changes

  8. “What is it about politicians named “Trudeau” that fosters western separatist movements?”
    But no successful ones.

  9. So some folks are starting to get vocal.
    It’s a start.
The important thing to realize that though this may not change the voting pattern of liberals it could have a dampening effect on turn out. The most likely ridings are those suburban ones that ring the MTV. It becomes a numbers game then as the only area the liberals can make up lost ground is to reach out to the NDP voters to lend their vote to stop Andrew Scheer and his extremist right wing (insert derogatory term) party from governing.
The most likely outcome if Juthtins keeps this up is a minority government.
And liberals don’t consider a minority a win.

  11. “You know you’ve gone to far when”
Not to be picky here but shouldn’t the headline have the adverb “too” rather than the preposition “to”?

  12. You should NOT generalize. I am a retired public servant who has voted conservative provincially and federally all my life. When I joined the public service, we were underpaid compared with other professionals, had 2 weeks vacation per year and endured wage-and-price controls. It began to change starting in about 1994. Just because we are unionized does not mean that we all agree with any of the union leader views or provisions won in contract negotiations. In fact, I would have opted out of a union, had I had the chance. I retired with over 125 banked sick days, as I was too busy to take mental health days, which are a crock, as is the “earned days off” program. I saw abuses tolerated by senior management, as there was no incentive for them to call people out on bad behaviour. Our department had very tight controls on travel expenses and most of the expense abuses occur among the political staff, Senate and Parliament, as they have lousy controls. So be careful about tarring all public servant professionals with the same brush.

  13. If the pushback from Trudeau’s idiocy is strong enough, I expect he’ll retreat for a weekend, and return to the media saying “we have no choice” but to raise the GST back to 7% and this is necessary because of the Conservatives near sighted economic plan.
I think Trudeau is a piece of shit. If you haven’t gotten that already.

  14. Someone else decided to impose these tax changes. Trudeau is too stupid to come up with this and is just a pretty cover face.

  15. That’s a given. I think he is lucky if they even keep him in the loop. It’s a bit like hiring an actor to play the role of PM. (Oops, I guess that is exactly what Libs did.)

  16. If you build a system that encourages people to use it to avoid paying higher taxes then it will be used. If you then try and change it in any way that affects those people they will cry foul. And so people are crying foul because their method of tax reduction is being attacked.
The biggest problem is the progressive tax brackets and the concept that if you make more money you should pay a higher percentage in taxes. That is just bullsh*t. If you make more money, and the tax is flat, you pay more just by making more. There is no disincentive to make more by taxing at a higher rate. Flat rates also eliminate the need for special “loopholes” and “incentives” because there is no magic number to stay below. You can even exempt a certain amount to help “the poor” so they don’t pay federal taxes on the first $10,000 or $20,000 dollars like they do now with the personal exemption. But having a progressive set of brackets looks like they are sticking it to the rich (which they are to a certain extent) but moreover they are just creating more jobs for tax specialists who massage the system to ensure their rich clients pay the least amount as possible, using any means legal.
The government could change to a flat rate for personal income, a flat rate for corporate/business income and put hundreds of specialists out of business because they could eliminate all the garbage that has crept in over the years. No write-offs when you fail, no extra tax grab when you succeed. Just a single flat rate. But then, how would they reward their friends and financiers? They would put all kinds of lobbyists out of work, those moochers whose job is to convince the government for more money or breaks for their client.

  17. You sound like Coyne.
“We should do this because then we can lower marginal tax rates…”
    Yeah…that’ll happen.
No gov’t is going to a flat tax rate.
No gov’t is going to lower marginal tax rates.
No gov’t is going to voluntarily lower their net revenues. If it goes down here they expect it to go up there.
Stop tilting at windmills, this is a tax grab plain and simple.

  18. more hand wringing, more oh gosh of golly but we will suck it up and pay, just like every other damn tax ever shoved at us. I say no new taxes and no new spending until all levels of government get their tiny brains working and stop spending what we don’t have.

  19. Kate
You have the ear of millions.
Scott Adams of dilbert fame is a master of persuasion. A well thought out insult creates an image that can destroy an opponent. Think Low energy Jeb or Crooked Hillary. They need to be visually accurate.
So here’s an idea for your subscribers to spread and creat a meme to bring down the libs
Smiling Prince Justin and Sheriff Bill
Taking the last pennies from small business to feed their indulgences.
Modify edit as needed. Then get the meme out there.
    John

  20. It’s not about the civil servants L, but they, through their unaccountable unions, take good care of themselves, at the ultimate expense of those who can’t afford their perks. But yes, the corruption exists at higher levels, not public sector middle management.

  21. I know it is a tax grab, so what? I am pointing out the obvious. You give something to people they don’t ever want to give it up. You take it away, they are upset. Give me a tax dodge, I use it. Am I upset when they take it away, of course.
I just find it hard to feel sorry for people who use a system that is so convoluted that it takes specialized accountants and lawyers to “maximize” your “tax savings”. I really love the term “sprinkling”, it makes using the system sound so nice. I have $100,000 in income, but if I “sprinkle” some to my wife and my two child I can reduce my overall tax bill by thousands of dollars! Gee, that would be nice if ordinary Canadians could do that, oh wait, they could before Trudeau cancelled the income splitting for families! Too bad the small business men and doctors were not as vocal about that reduction, eh? But they had theirs, so don’t make waves and maybe they will forget that. Google “Trudeau cancels income splitting” and you get 65,000 hits. Google “Trudeau small business tax changes” and you get 670,000 hits.
Friendly reminder, the corporate rate of tax for a Canadian small business is 10.5%. The lowest federal tax bracket is 15% on the first $45,916. And, of course, it goes up from there.
Finally, yes, tilting at windmills is pointless. I know they will never change the personal tax regime in Canada because politicians have no concept on reining in spending, they just increase taxes to increase spending on all their pet projects.
Yes, Trudeau and Morneau are dicks. But I still find it hard to feel sorry for SOME people who, before this was a thing, paid more and now pay less.

  22. “No gov’t is going to a flat tax rate.”
Bzzt. There are countries with flat tax rates, and Alberta used to be one of them and will be again. Could you please try to not say dumb things?
