2. And you missed the point that actually matters, which is that Arpaio’s reign did not see crime decrease. And that doesn’t even include the crimes committed by Arpaio’s administration.

3. Arpaio’s job was to enforce existing law, the success of the enforcement in lowering the law breaking is irrelevant.
   If the law is wrong then breaking it is on the heads of those who break it, not on those who enforce it.
   Judges should not pretend they have the power to suspend legislation, their job it to decide if the law has been enforced as written, not to rule on the law as they wish it to be or not to be.

4. I don’t know which Leftist tear sheet of talking points you’re reading from … but those “charges” are all false. Just meant to demonize the good sheriff. Nobody was arrested because they were “brown” or “looked Mexican”. That was just a specious charge made by his opponents … completely unjustified. And his “spartan” prison accommodations never rose to “cruel and unusual punishment. Jail SHOULD be un-comffff-ter-ble for the punisheees. Ask any of his illegal Mexican clients if they’d rather be jailed in Mexico ? I believe they eat menudo sandwiches.

5. We are in counter-revolutionary times south of the border, but our own counter-revolution failed thanks to uncommitted leadership who threw away the chance they were given.
   I’m not saying Trump is guaranteed to do much better, he seems to be slowly giving in to elements within his own power structure who are committed to stalling out the counter-revolution, making it more or less inevitable that further revolution will then follow when he’s out of time.
   As for Sherriff Joe, he was one who stood up to the revolution and they made an example of him. Trump was right to overturn the politically motivated conviction. Now he should compensate the Portland bakers who are perhaps the most visible lawfare victims of the Obama years. As their misfortunes were in civil rather than criminal court, there is no conviction to overturn, but their lives were ruined by huge fines which made a mockery of their freedom of religion as guaranteed under the Constitution.
   I would make a similar argument for persons known to me in Canada but we have no real constitution, just Soviet style laws that the unwary would interpret to be a constitution. They can mean whatever a judge says they mean, and we all know what the odds are there.

   In defense of populism I suggest it gives voice to many who are impacted by modern politics and bureaucratic excesses. It often challenges those who want to set directions for how people live. Whether conservative or progressive. I see these efforts as a brake on those who initiate such top down changes. It them becomes the responsibility of those who initiate to defend their causes.
   Populism has a role in the defense of democracy.

11. Wow! 59 comments in and NOT ONE has brought up the fact that the Sheriff was the only officer of the law who did a thorough investigation into Obama’s on line posted Birth Certificate that has been proved to be a total fraud. Joe confirmed it.
    The court order to stop illegal immigrant profiling was a contrived move for revenge by Obama and his deep State minions. Period. A total abuse of power and Trump is 100% correct to pardon a non crime.
    Now watch the MSM be totally silent on the facts above…CBC doesn’t even mention the detail that Apaio was checking for illegals, they only mention “Because he ignored a Federal court Judge”
    BTW, After the Russian saga, North Korea standoff, Charlottesville, the Apaio “scandal” is the new “Impeach” flavor of the week…Until Hurricane Harvey eventually becomes Trump’s disaster.

    We tried to Reform,using Roberts Rules of Committees and the existing structures of Democracy, a well established Kleptocracy.
    Seems a lesson was learned, Reform may well be impossible via peaceful legal means,when those laws and regulations are made by the thieves who rule.
    The taxpaying slave has no rights in Canada.
    Human Rights Legislation Trumps all other law in Canada and that HR BS is whatever the Court wants it to be this week.
    Revolt comes when you know you are FUBAR no matter what comes next.
    The State generously allowing you to keep 1/3 of your return on your labour, while abusing you for; “Failing to save for your retirement”, is definitely a good start.
    So we vote Never Done Paying or Liarball Party cause we have no option, progressive conservative = Liberal Party in my experience.
    So fast crash or slow lingering death.. pick your poison.
    Revolt is ugly, brutal and destructive, sane conservatives have no interest is such stupidity.
    There will be revolt,only when there is nothing left to conserve..
    Our current “leaders” seem to have us well on the way to that.

    Anyways, anyone else notice that the level of troll participation on any given thread at SDA seems to be in direct proportion to the amount of propaganda that the leftist media gave the topic?     True, but the full story is worse!
    I am a taxpaying legal Voter of Maricopa County, AZ I voted for Sheriff Joe and have followed his problems with the legal Community. Yes! immigration Lawyers hate Joe because if he asks an illegal Alien their status and they claim to be American… They have a ZERO chance of future Citizenship..Same with voting questions
    The State Courts tried to intimidate Joe & failed.. The Courts fined the County & State (Why do Courts think they have the power to SPEND Taxpayers Money) Could be they think punishing taxpayers will force me to vote against Joe….No didn’t work
    Obama & the Ninth Circuit tried to charge Joe with criminal charges, but they failed to bring any legal Case (lots of allegations & fake news)… The Court decided they had the power to appoint themselves administrator of the Maricopa Sheriff Office, nullifying MY vote. The Judge issued an unlawful order & Joe “may” have followed the will of Maricopa County taxpayers like me..
    Today NBC “Meet the Press” claimed Joe had “Chain Gangs” totally fake
    He used prisoners to pickup trash on the Roads (they get paid) and the usual Unions complained, but Maricopa county does not have Chain-Gangs nor has any Court ruled they have (that is the only way a fact is determined)
    The Sheriff Joe story has all the making of a civil war..Watch for the fear mongers & Lock them UP chants…be afraid..very afraid

17. The best story about Arpaio? The one where his undercover deputies gave some 18yo mental case the idea to bomb Arpaio plus the money (over 2 grand) to buy the stuff needed to do it. Then they had the guy arrested live on TV and Arpaio was able to talk about how criminals were trying to assassinate him. That helped him win the next election. Only bad thing was when the case fell apart later and the county had to pay the patsy over a million dollars in restitution. One can see how such a man would be a hero to Trump. Trump being the guy who faked a medical condition to avoid ‘Nam.
