  1. Thanks for the song, brings back good memories. My favoite was the ”Wichita Lineman.”
My Dad worked as a lineman for a rural phone company when I was a kid. I can still hear the steel lines singing in the prairie wind. The colder it got, the louder they sang. He told me that the sound was caused by Chinese people arguing over the phone. (In 1955, it was OK to have fun.) It wasn’t a great job, so after a couple of years, he went working in a Chevrolet dealership. Eventually he bought his own garage. Years later when Campbell’s song was a hit, he listened to it often and told me it brought back good memories.
    God Bless Glenn Campbell.

  2. RIP Glenn. Thanks for the music.
My favorite of his repertoire was also “Wichita Lineman”.

  3. He was a great guitar player and studio musician before going out on his own. He was among those LA based musicians known as the “Wrecking Crew”, famous for the backup and recording accompaniment for many recording artists of the sixties. RIP Glenn Campbell.

  4. Today I’ve been listening to CTV and the reports on North Korea and Kim Jung-un’s threats concerning N. Korea sending missiles to the US mainland or the the island of Guam. Donald Trump’s response was something to the effect that the attack would be met with ”Fire and fury like the world has never seen.”
It seems the CTV was more concerned about Trump hurting the little North Korean pork ball’s feelings than they were in giving us a detailed report as to how the USA would meet such a threat in the case of an nuclear attack. What has happened to journalism??
I recall listening to shortwave radio during the Cuban Missile Crisis of October, 1962. CBC International Service, Radio France Internationale, BBC Wolrd Services etc. etc. were balring news about the incident 24-7. I also recall detailed reports on CBC and CTV that included aerial photos of Russian Missiles on Cuban soil. This was black and white TV coming out of CKCK TV Channel 2 in Regina and CHAB TV Channel 4 in Moose Jaw. Fifty five years later, we should be able to see aerial photos of North Korea’s missile installations instead of showing us footage of Donald Trump reacting to a threat that would certainly kill millions of people, including Americans if it was carried out. What a crying shame to watch the deterioration of
    Canadian and American television.

  5. (Correction.)
”CBC International Service, Radio France Internationale, BBC World Services etc. etc. were blaring news about the incident 24-7.”

  6. Don’t forget that Glen Campbell not only starred opposite John Wayne in True Grit, he sang that movie’s theme song.
My own recollections of his music include Rhinestone Cowboy, which was released during the summer of 1975, shortly before I returned to university for my junior undergraduate year.
In spring of 1977, his song Southern Nights was on the radio just as I was preparing to write my final undergrad exams.
    Farewell, sir, and thank you.

  7. I know someone posted a link to this song on an earlier thread, but I thought I’d do it once more because the comments are interesting to read:

It seems that There’s No England Now has become an anthem of despair and frustration for people who’d like to have their respective countries back.

  8. I was in Dallaas and just had to see the town because of this song. It was a longer drive than anticipated. Texas is sooo big it belongs in Canada.

  9. I see in response to the catastrophic influx in illegals crossing the Canada US border someone in a position of authority has dispatched the armed forces.
The punch line is that they have not been sent to stop the flow at the border which would fix the problem, but have been sent to set up tents to accommodate the illegals.

  10. Agree with others here: “Wichita Lineman” was my favourite too.
The execrable “news” coverage of the latest North Korean mental fit isn’t worth commenting on.

  11. An Australian friend urged me to listen to one of the last songs Glen Campbell recorded, Adios. I’m glad I did and am happy to pass along the same recommendation.
“Recorded in Nashville between 2012 and 2013, the album was released on June 9, 2017…” (Wikipedia)

  12. Good comment with that link about modern art:
“….. and at this point they’ve transgressed so much there’s nothing left to defile”

  13. Fox News suicide watch continues.
Suspended without evidence Eric Boiling sues Democrat activist/Huff Post reporter for hit piece about genitalia photos and smart?phones.
And the Dem thinks that’s good for him that Bolling didn’t include the Huff Post in his defamation suit. Presence of malice anyone?
“The Fox News fiasco continues. In just the past year or so we’ve seen the departure of Megyn Kelly, Greta Van Susteren, Bob Beckel, Bill O’Reilly, Bill Shine, a suspension of Charles Payne, the departure and death of Roger Ailes, and even a cancellation of the popular late-night show “Red Eye.”
Then, as we reported last week, they came for Eric Bolling. He’s been suspended due to accusations that he sent lewd photos to multiple female colleagues in the past, but we don’t know who any of those alleged victims even are. The only potential victim to come forward is Caroline Heldman, a far-left professor who was also a Bill O’Reilly accuser.”
“The nature of this action is for damages and injunctive relief based on defamation arising from the defendant’s efforts to injure the plaintiff’s reputation through the intentional and/or highly reckless publication of actionable false and misleading statements about the plaintiff’s conduct and character. As a result of the defendant’s actions, the plaintiff has been substantially harmed,” reads the summons sent to (Yashar) Ali.”
His goose is cooked if he has no proof – Bolling will boil the dim Dem – if he made this scurrilous allegation without evidence.

  15. We should expect nothing less after all didn’t Li’l Tater Head tell us all that we should do things that we’re good at like living in the mountains in a cold climate. Well now we’re putting up tents and as the Major in charge said we’re good at that. It would also seem that like ‘folding tents’ we’re also good at ‘folding the country’! A country bent on self destruction could ask for a better playbook than what the Liberals are doing right now, and the majority of Canadian voters are so unaware that it is laughable.

  16. I’ll bet wee Juthtin will personally welcome this couple, especially since they’re bringing along their Shiny Pony-scented candle:

Notice, of course, that they don’t plan on giving up their American citizenship. Does that mean they’ll be moving back once Trump is finally impeached by Mad Maxine Waters or overthrown in the inevitable coup that the deep state (supported by O’Bummer, Soros, et. al.)?
I’m sure, though, that Pomme de Terre will grant them automatic citizenship just to show how “compassionate” we Canadians really are, even to those who don’t come to strengthen us through diversity, culturally enrich us, or bestow upon us the blessings of Allah.

  17. Needed to edit my last post, sorry about that.
A country bent on self destruction could NOT ask for a better playbook than what the Liberals are doing right now, and the majority of Canadian voters are so unaware that it is laughable.

  18. Presumably Canada also had a program for taking in Haitians after the earth quake. The Canadian program has now ended. Trump was similarly going to end their program in January. We sent people back to Haiti. Why are we now welcoming them here instead of sending them home? Also — press is giving very little coverage to this issue. Next we will be welcoming the Mexicans who no longer require visas. Accepting illegal immigrants is turning into a disaster, and I suspect it will get worse. The government has not been up front about why we are even accepting the Haitians — who are not under threat.

  19. Sorry WalterF; you had already posted the Alice Cooper interview link about Glen Campbell when I posted the same thing.
