Wearing a burka or hijab is allowed here in Canada under the Charter dictate called “Freedom of Religion”. Female genital mutilation is barbaric but how can it be stopped in a free society when they can go to some male dominated hell hole ME country and have it done? Personally I deplore the use of the terms, “Female genital mutilation”, and, “Female circumcision”. They are too tidy. They avoid the horror that they purport to describe. In my writings I prefer to refer to the act as, “Cutting off girls clitorises”. That’s what it is and it properly describes an abominable act.
It would not surprise me if some of this was also going on in Canada. The Star suggests that the girls are “taken abroad”. I think that is a deliberate attempt to hide part of the issue. The Conservative’s “Hot Line” which was actually a help line aimed at victims and close family was falsely and thoroughly discredited by the left and the media as a “snitch line”. It was almost impossible to counter the media enthusiasm for using this to paint Conservatives as bigots. At this point, Muslim’s who are aware of the problem and disagree with these barbaric practices have nowhere to turn. Most are not willing to phone police to stop these activities. The Liberal strategy is to pretend that the problems do not exist. Not only FGM is a problem, but there are hundreds of forced marriages. When we have men who will beat their wives with hockey sticks, I think it is a safe bet that we are not done with honour killings also. To acknowledge and put in place strategies to address the problems is essential — it is not bigotry. I think that much of the Canadian public and the media who condemned Conservatives on their efforts on the hot (help) line are guilty of perpetuating the problems. You can bet that none of these problems will be solved under Liberals, who care primarily about their own image. I do not think they care about the victims.

Not sure I agree with the statement that the libranos rode in on the muslim vote. The muslim population in the entire country is less than 5%. Yes they have the numbers to influence the outcome in certain ridings but they can’t carry a national election.

Anyone who has read Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s description of her experience would know that it isn’t necessarily done under hygienic conditions. It should not be banned just in this country but those who take their daughters back to their home country to have it done should be refused entry bac.k into this country. Conservatives can’t seem to understand the difference between winning an argument and forming government. Philosophy and politics. They can’t figure out the difference.
Gay marriage comes to mind. Conservatives live and die on a this hill. It is not the business of government to dictate morality. That is the purview of individuals. If your opposed that’s fine but it is not an issue you want to lose an election over. It’s a matter of fairness. Your church may agree with your thoughts and that’s okay.
Liberals figured this out decades ago. They play to this conservatives cleavage in every election and true to form conservatives fall upon each other….and typically lose.
