A Very Sober Look at How Deeply Unhinged the Left Has Become

Shakespeare in the Park Trump “Unhingement.” @DanHenninger @WSJOpinion
“…But that wasn’t the end of it. We may assume that as Ms. Griffin was creating her video, the artists at New York’s Public Theater were rehearsing their production of ” Julius Caesar, ” the one in which Central Park audiences watch Caesar as a blond-haired Donald Trump, who is pulled down from a podium by men in suits and assassinated with plunging knives.
The news site Axios runs stories regularly about journalists who have been suspended or fired because of their unhinged postings on Twitter . After Donald Trump used a tweet to revive his long-running feud with the mayor of London amid the June 3 killings, CNN personality Reza Aslan tweeted that Mr. Trump was a “piece of s–.”
Some take comfort that these displays did not go unpunished. CNN wrist-slapped Ms. Griffin by dropping her as co-host of its New Year’s Eve show with Anderson Cooper. Delta Air Lines , American Express and Bank of America withdrew their sponsorship of “Julius Caesar,” though New York City’s Democratic Comptroller Scott Stringer said their pullout “sends the wrong message.”
Advertisers must wake up every morning wondering what political meteorite will hit them next. J.P. Morgan Chase pulled its ads this week from NBC News rather than be associated with Megyn Kelly’s prime-time interview with Alex Jones to discuss “controversies and conspiracies,” such as his notion that the Sandy Hook murders were a hoax. Ms. Kelly justified the interview in part on Twitter because Donald Trump appeared on Mr. Jones’s show and “our job is 2 shine a light.”
Donald Trump’s election has caused psychological unhingement in much of the population. But the Trump phenomenon only accelerated forces that were plummeting in this direction before the 2016 election….”

  1. Give it a rest guys. The only thing different with Trump from prior Republicans, Romney, McCain, Bush, etc. is the volume. And Trump is President largely because of the way all those other guys reacted to the cries of “Nazi, Nazi”. “Thank you sir, may I have another” finally wore out it’s welcome.

  2. I don’t understand this. I have never read or seen the play “Julius Caesar”, but wan’t his assassination in the play considered a bad thing? If that is the case, how is replacing Julius with Donald supposed to cover the Left in Glory?

  3. In the play, most of the Caesar’s assassins killed him for personal ambition. Only Brutus did it for what he believed was the good of Rome.
Shakespeare’s plays are often performed in modern dress. But casting Caesar to look quite similar to a sitting President, along with Calphurnia–Caesar’s wife-as a woman with a Slavic accent, was no mere coincidence. The producers of the play were making a deliberate political statement and an inappropriate one at that.
While it is tempting to refer to all responsible for this travesty as:
“You blocks, you stones, you worse than senseless things!”
perhaps this would be more applicable:
“Pray to the gods to intermit the plague
That needs must light on this ingratitude.”

  4. The Play accurately portrays the “Republicans” stabbing Trump…
Why the Hell does Trump have to answer the WAPO False Stories..
A Chris Christy type needs to call out Bernstein for his Communist lying past..The NYT & CNN are not News Media…A complete Story line on BLOW, Mudd, & CNN hosts would help Americans understand the stabbing.
The Media false accusations COULD be stopped by the Congress with a hearing on Anti-Trust violations (conspiracy) Unnamed sources have become criminal fiction.. leaker FBI Comey was pond scum.. Where is the
    Grand Jury?
Trump should declare himself independent & separate the Republican Senate into Trump Republicans & Establishment deep State Republicans.. Run a third party in the 2018 Senate races…
    JMHO

  5. Except to say that President Trump appears to ACTUALLY be DOING what he said he would … at increased volume. Compare and contrast with Mitch McConnell’s last campaign … replete with empty promises of ballsy conservatism. McConnell has since pulled his head back into the turtle shell … he’s shrunk up like a stack of dimes. And joined the Democraps in assaulting and obstructing President Trump … biding his time till he can return to business as usual.
Trump needs to be MORE than one shot across the bow of America’s enemies within.

  6. The Play accurately portrays the “Republicans” stabbing Trump…
That’s a good way of putting it. As I mentioned in my earlier comment, most of Caesar’s assassins killed him for personal gain.
Many Repubs don’t like Trump and don’t want him in power. He interfered with their personal plans and must, therefore, moved out of the way.

  7. “Trump should declare himself independent & separate the Republican Senate into Trump Republicans & Establishment deep State Republicans.. Run a third party in the 2018 Senate races…”
It may soon be his only recourse as many cowardly Republicans seem to be rooting for the DNC over Trump. I have often thought the same thing, Trump’s sincere love for country and his hatred of being bettered are two powerful motivators. But if you think he is in peril now, wait till the GOP feels threatened by what would essentially be a new conservative party. A REAL one.
I also find myself wondering if the new definition of “conservative” is simply “those remaining in the west who have not bought into the elite’s altered reality”.

  8. JFK was a threat to the establishment, so they killed him. Reagan could have been a threat, but WH Bush was in a position to run interference. Tho one has to wonder at the shooting attempt, was the final analysis what they said, or was in a cover up. With the news of the V Foster thing, one has to wonder. Also S Palin was a threat to the establishment, and at Journolist the lefty media planned to take her down. Any one, either side of the ails, seems to have a death threat hanging over them if they threaten the establishment. Trump is just the latest, and possibly the most threatening.
Oh, and they tried blaming the JFK thing on the “Russians” (USSR) as well!!

  9. I believe that you, Slapshot, and others who are suggesting that this “civil war” (my words) is between Trump and the establishment which consists of the Republicans and Democrats are right in my opinion. The former Speaker Newt Gingrich said as much on Fox the other day by saying the the Republican establishment is doing as much as the Democrats to derail Trump’s agenda.

  10. In the Shakespearian play the conspirators against Julius Caesar are hunted down & slaughtered in battle. How about we play that one out!

  11. “In the Shakespearian play the conspirators against Julius Caesar are hunted down & slaughtered in battle …”
…after the actual history, in which they were pursued to destruction by Caesar’s heir who instituted a dynastic autocracy that did away with the old republic forever.

  12. In the Shakespearian play the conspirators against Julius Caesar are hunted down & slaughtered in battle.
Brutus chose suicide. Yet, in the final scene, Mark Antony called him “the noblest Roman of them all”, understanding that he assassinated Caesar for what he thought was the good of the state.

  13. …after the actual history, in which they were pursued to destruction by Caesar’s heir who instituted a dynastic autocracy that did away with the old republic forever.
Shakespeare reminds us of that in Antony and Cleopatra.

  14. Shakespeare often made veiled references to certain political issues in his plays, many of which the audience of the day would have known about.
But he wasn’t the only artist to do that sort of thing. Composer Giuseppi Verde was often in hot water with the censors of his day. One opera in particular got him in some trouble, Un Ballo en Maschera.
It was based on the assassination of King Gustav III of Sweden. The censors became rather nervous about regicide being the subject, particularly given the political situation in Italy at the time. Eventually, Verdi revised it sufficiently so that the setting was moved from Sweden to Boston during the American Revolution.
For many years, the Americanized version was the only one that was performed. In recent times, however, the original setting has been produced more often by houses such as the Metropolitan Opera.

  15. Apparently the driver has been arrested, but no mention of who, what or which about said driver.

  16. Some of these things are being blown up out of proportion, like the Kathy Griffin video and particularly this Trump-as-Caesar play. Politicians are burned in effigy fairly frequently, and no one really says Boo. These stunts are in the same category.
The truly important issues are the principles behind freedom of speech, other fundamental rights and capitalism that the leftists want to destroy, and their violent mobs in the streets toward that end.

  17. It has been simmering a long time. This was bound to happen and now it has and will again. Britanistan will be like India with it’s tit for tat massacres when Islam drives the Hindus to bloody revenge. Third world britanistan. At least a few eloi have decided to risk everything in revenge. I blame Islamic Infidelophobia.

  18. The play is not about Julius, nor is it just a modern adaptation of shakespeare.
First and foremost, the play was a means to allow sicko lefties a chance to fantasize and visualize the assassination of trump.
Do you get it yet? The producers wanted, so very badly, to kill trump publicly as fantasy and also in hope that someone will carry the real torch for them.
The play really is the thing….for the left.
