  1. My first preference is Chris Alexander. I admit he is a bit of a dark horse, but he has intelligence and integrity — both badly needed in our country. I sent a letter to his campaign and got a polite acknowledgment from an assistant. A day or so later, I got a very nice personal note from Chris. He is low key, but I think he would make an excellent leader and PM.

  2. Hard to say, I think it’s changing daily. Erin O’Toole may get some momentum at a convention with the majority endorsements from sitting MP’s, but then again maybe not.
Anybody see the hit piece on Kellie Leitch in the Hill Times. I actually found it linked on a US site. She sent out an email with a photo of her at a range shooting a pistol. The original Hill Times article tried to spin it as her shooting a ‘Nazi Era’ weapon because it happened to be a German pistol, which someone incorrectly identified as from the ’30s. Turns out it was a 70’s era German pistol standard issue to US troops in Viet Nam. But even if it was a German WW2 weapon, spinning it as Nazi was egregious. My father in law owned an old beetle when I first met his daughter, does that mean I married a Nazi?

  3. Trost,sheer,otoole,bernier.
Not a trumpster in the bunch. To bad. Canada and Canadian conservatives are not at all conservative. People in Canada say you can’t get elected in Canada if you are not pro life, in the USA the Conservative party you cannot get nominated if you are not pro life. Canada is socialist , and we like it that way , I have met so many conservatives that have one finger at least in a gov program of some kind or another ….no real conservatives in Canada at all never have been never will be get used to that.
Trost is a conservative through and through , he is also pretty new to government. But he is tooooo conservative for sda and Canadians . Heh heh.
I will support who ever wins the nomination except Chong.

  4. Yes, I saw the Hill Times hit piece. The press is doing its best to steer CPC members to vote for a liberal disguised as a conservative.
I also get a number of calls a week and about a dozen emails a day.
As of what date are new memberships? My brother-in-law joined about two weeks ago.
Lance, can’t seem to access linked article without subscribing.

  5. Its Bernier’s to lose.
He should have most of Quebec readings tied-up.
He is number 1 for many – likely the most – and he surely is 2nd or 3rd for almost all of the remainder.
O’Leary might have a lot of #1s but likely has almost no #2 or 3. Ditto leitch.
Scheer is interesting and talented but also very social conservative which is a concern for many.
O’toole is popular with the elected party establishment in an anti-establishment era. Also far too little too late.

  6. 1) Bernier
    2) Scheer
    3) Trost
Chong & O’Leary have no business calling themselves Conservatives.

  7. Harper beat out two more well known opponents (remember Belinda) because he built a solid team and organization. This allowed him to unite the right and effectively lead the Conservatives for many years. Look for the candidates who are replicating this strategy. Avoid the high profile and media darlings who will wilt when the pressure is on and leave the party in chaos.

  8. Bernier may be okay but I just cannot cast a vote for yet another potential PM from Quebec. 38 of the last 49 years have been led by PMs from Quebec. And Bernier carries Harper baggage. The Liberals will have a field day with that in an election campaign.

  9. Who cares? If they won’t at least mirror Leitch’s stance on immigration, I’ll vote Petit Patate in the effort to speed ip the collapse that’s impending. There isn’t a right of centre candidate in the lot.

  10. The Harper victory was his to lose. Suggesting there were more well known alternatives is not close to the reality. Reform stalwarts were his base and Reform was already established in the east.
That aside I have let my CPC membership lapse after 46 years. Reform was my last kick at the can. Any vestige of that era has been pretty much eliminated out of the conservative movement. The CPC is back where it was under Mulroney. Top down after a very deliberate scuttling of the riding associations. My riding has gone from 1750 members down to 500(?) minus one (me). When a clown like O’Leary can walk in and be a serious candidate it says something about the philosophical base of this party. He is the obvious example but not the only one.

  11. Any opinions on how many new “members” of the CPC are really Liberals or Dippers in disguise, seeking to sway the vote in the general direction of Left? After all, everything is fair in love, war, and politics.

  12. To me the whole thing is a giant yawn. Anyone that has any appeal has slim to no chance and a snow balls chance in hell of beating the Turd. I did not renew my membership either . I believe we are likely 4 or 5 years away from finding a suitable canidate and 6 or 7 from the general populace realizing the emperor is naked .

  13. Canada will never elect a true conservative. Too bad. Not surprising though, when you look at our founders. Folks from France, enough said. United Empire Loyalists, aka cowards who peed their knickers and fled at the thought of opposing the king). Canadians need mommy government holding their pathetic little hands. Thank God for dual citizenship. My two sisters left for the states years ago; I will soon follow.

  14. Not being a member of the party but one who votes for the most electable conservative candidate on the ballot I am completely in the dark as to who the candidates are and their position on any given policy. I blame it on the complete lack of consciousness penetration the race and its candidates have had on the general population. Yes I know it is a Conservative Party leadership race but still the candidates should be making the most of the opportunity to be reaching average apolitical Canadians. They have failed miserably. If they even attempted it and it seemed the only ones making the headlines were the nuts that no one would vote for. Yes yes the media is not going to do them any favours but knowing that the candidates have to resort to other means. Trump in the US was similarly handicapped and Kenny in Alberta was likewise hamstrung but both of them were able to penetrate the fog of everyday life enjoyed by the apolitical populace. If the leadership candidates can’t stir any excitement during their own leadership race what are the chances of them winning the next election? I would say some where between slim and none after slim is off the ballot.

  15. I bought a 1 year membership at the midnight hour yesterday in order to support Maxime Bernier. He has a few potential issues but I like how most of what he says is small government policy.

  16. Do you want a repeat of Chrétien? Because this is how you get a repeat of Chrétien.
Canada needs to grow a pair already.

  17. “and if your phone is anything like mine, you’re getting two or three calls a week.”
Nada. Crickets. No calls, no paraphernalia either by email or post. There are 2 CPC members in this house and nothing at all.
It’s like no one cares who our vote goes to. Or if we vote at all. Finding out the platforms for some of the ‘lesser knowns’ is brutal. Sad, sad campaign all around.

  18. If the choice is between a BILLIONAIRE businessman -vs- a long term, banker turned entrenched politician … I’ll take the billionaire. O’Leary would get my vote … if I were Canadian

  19. There are lots of fake conservatives on this website sharing their fake opinions as to who should lead the fake conservatives in the next election. O’Leary is taking a lot of heat in the fake media which means that he is the candidate who is best able to defeat Zoolander in 2019.
O’Leary has also promised to cut the CBC’s budget by one billion dollars … that’s all I needed to hear. O’Leary’s got my vote.

  20. Unless they decide to fight back against the liars in the media and to explain their policies to voters the point is just academic.
Curling up in the fetal position when the media lies about them just doesn’t work.
    AND NO APOLOGIES!

  21. There is a lot of good options among those Bernier seems to have the best chance to win the nomination and the best chance of to unseating PM Pu$$y Hat. Mad Max got my vote.
    Never Chong
    Never O’Leary

  22. Bernier
    O’Toole
no one else on my ballot. I think Bernier will win. Could never support a blowhard like O’Leary, even if he was a conservative, which he obviously is not.

  23. As many have noted, Bernier has the best chance of dumping JT. THAT is the real issue in selecting the best CPC candidate. He will take enough of the French vote in every riding to stop the Lieberals. He will also take Quebec, which is how to become PM in Canada. Those who hate him because he’s French are just being foolish. The next election is much bigger than their francophobe silliness.

  24. Common sense in present times dictates that Kevin O’Leary is a much needed leader for this country. With Trump down south for the next 8 years means we need not to waste time in bringing Canada to a competitive edge with are biggest trading partner. Drain the swamp needs to happen in Ottawa and in fact in most Provincial capitals too. Canada has turned mediocre in the grip of Globalism and in many respects in a worse situation than the US simply because Liberal cities rule the land by shear numbers.
Are we going to wait until are dollar devalues to 0.45 ?
I see the argument of many that Kevin O’Leary is not Conservative material…Is Donald Trump truly Conservative?
To hell with “Conservative” or “Liberal”, to hell with categories in boxes…We need common sense. Give me a rich business leader any day instead of the endless career lawyer turned politician for the perks and gold plated pensions only.
Certainly Trump never ran for the money or the fame…Kevin O’Leary is in the same place.
    Common Sense = Kevin O’Leary 2019

  25. I have been in the USA during most of this campaign. I can’t tell you how many e-mails I have deleted from various wannabe leaders, nearly all of whom are about as unappealing as a bucket of cold spit. I won’t vote in the CPC leadership, because none of them seem to have what it takes to knock out the Spawn. And I will let my CPC membership lapse (if it hasn’t already) until such time as whatever leader does get chosen shows that he/she is worth something.
And if a new and viable right-of-centre party should arise, I will probably migrate there.

  26. My understanding of Canadian politics is ZIP, NADA. So I implicitly TRUST and RESPECT your analysis. Electability is paramount for conservative success. However, here in America … Marco Rubio was put forth by the GOPe as the “most electable” (after their “chosen one”, Bush was crushed by the voters). He is “HEspanic” … and young, and good-looking … and … and … in favor of AMNESTY. Turns out that is NOT what the electorate wanted. So, my only reservation for Canada is whether your party leader is a REAL iconoclast, who will SHATTER the malignant politic … or will keep going-along to get-along.

  27. I also have made up my mind; there is no one worth supporting. I think it is better to watch it all burn rather than vote Liberal slow and lite.

  28. What Kevin said X100. The so-called Conservative party is anything but conservative and nobody running for leadership of that bunch of worthless sods is worth a toss. This country needs to swirl the bowl a lot more before Canadians wake-the-f**k-up and Juthtin is just the man for that job.

  29. My picks also:
    1) Lietch
    2) Trost
    3) Scheer
    4) Bernier
    never) Chong
    GD NEVER) O’Leary

  30. yup, same folks different order:
    1) Bernier
    2) Scheer
    3) Trost
    4) Lietch
    never) Chong
    NFW) O’Leary

  31. Ditto here.
    1) Bernier
    2) Scheer
    3) Trost
    4) Lietch
    never) Chong
    NFW) O’Leary

  32. In the beginning that’s who I would have picked but it’s almost as if he’s dropped out of the race. Can you win with a profile so low that only a few people might be able to recognize your name?

  33. By the next election the Liberals will have so much Trudeau baggage that if a Conservative’s Harper baggage matters, nothing can save us. And by “us” I mean the country, not the conservative element in the country.

  34. So far based on the emails I’ve received O’Leary and Bernier are tied in membership sales (according to them). Bernier did not publish his numbers which means O’Leary could be in the lead or Bernier is keeping his cards close. Leitch is third she said she only sold 30,000 to O’Leary’s 38,000.
I don’t know how many people just bought theirs direct. I purposely bought mine on Bernier’s website so he got the loot and had an idea of what his numbers are.

  35. max bernier will replace trudeau – he possesses the depth and experience – from both the private sector and public sector. the really good news is that he will reduce government across the board. he will start with the current liberal prime minister. yes, i have a max bernier t-shirt and it drives my socialist / liberal friends here in quebec crazy. bonus!

  36. I bought mine directly from CPC. I imagine a lot of people did. At the time I wasn’t aware that candidates sold memberships.

  37. Canadians are not going to elect a PM whose name sounds like leech or o-tool. National elections are a popularity contest, not about selecting who is most qualified.

  38. scott, my regrets, i have promised and am sending the only other t-shirt to my childhood friend in vancouver who also wants to drive his socialist / liberal friends crazy 🙂

  39. Who cares… the hair Turd and the globalist/mafia will win again… Juthtin has the corrupt idiotic Media to run PR for the pathetic dunce, and never underestimate the superficiality, shallowness and colossal dumbness of the average Trudopian, lispy Juthtin is just the girl for the job. Juthtin will probably still be blathering Buttholes stale talking points (“the middow clath and thoth twying hard to join the middow clath”)in 2019 and the Media will still be swallowing it whole. Trudopiastan can’t end soon enough.

  40. Last week I sent a cheque and a letter to Andrew Scheer, MP for Regina-Qu’Appelle for a membership stating that I was supporting him in his leadership campaign.
Both the letter and the cheque were dated Mar. 25. I mailed it at a rural post office that is opened on Sat. AM. The Postmaster stamped it that day.
Today, Scheer’s campaign office sent me an e-mail stating that I am not a registered voter. After 4 days, and 100 miles away, the letter and the cheque were there for sure. I tried to phone the campaign office, but with no avail. No one is there to answer the phone. I left a message, no reply. If no one was answering the phone, obviously they were not opening their mail and registering the voters who payed by cheque.
Conclusion. I’ve mailed income tax, land payments, land title registrations, license fees etc. etc. to Regina over the years. The recipients have always accept the Canada Post stamp on the envelope if it’s dated on or prior to the deadline day. This is the last membership I buy from the CPC, assuming I don’t get angry enough to place a stopped payment on the cheque tomorrow AM.
