By the end of last year, Canadian Heritage had approved and distributed a little over $151 million in Canada 150 grants to Canadian businesses, schools, municipalities, NGOs, charities, etc. The Canadian Heritage department is still in the process of dividing the remaining $49 million of the $200-million Canada 150 Fund, but so far some provinces and territories have fared a lot better than others in the division of the fund.

You are certainly right about that. Before the Trudeau era when governments actually looked after our money, there was sufficient money to go around to properly celebrate the Centennial. In scores (possibly hundreds) of towns across Canada you will find Centennial Arenas or or Centennial something-or-others that were all built in those heady days.

No, you’re not the only one. I remember the build-up to 1967 and how it was one big year-long party for this country. Back then, there were all sorts of activities and observances related to Centennial Year. There were even commemorative coins and stamps (remember what the $1 bill looked like?).
Now, someone would have to try real hard to convince me that it’s Canada’s sesqui-centennial. There’s nothing to see.
