The temperature was still above 40C when the rolling blackouts began at 6.33pm to conserve power supplies as homeowners used airconditioners for relief from the heat.
SA’s power reliability will again be under scrutiny given a series of major blackouts, including a statewide failure in September.
An SA Power Networks spokesman said they were acting on instructions from AEMO in response to insufficient generation supply in SA.
“We don’t generate,” he said. “This is not an SA Power Networks issue — we are the muggins in the middle between the customer and generation supply.”
SA Liberal frontbencher Simon Birmingham said it was “yet another example that the South Australian Government can’t keep the lights on”.
“It’s a chronic failing that can only hurt investment confidence in the state,” Mr Birmingham said.
“It’s a demonstration that ad hoc state-based renewable energy targets have gone too far — when reliability can’t be maintained on a day the likes of which SA faces numerous times every single summer.”
Federal Energy Minister Josh Frydenberg said the blackout “is yet another example of Jay Weatherill’s failed experiment”.

A picture is worth a thousand words!
The DPRK a self-reliant socialist state”?
They have got their carbon footprint down to ZERO. Isn’t that the objective? Closer to home, has anyone bothered to ask the people of N.B. how they liked being without power for a week?
Many years ago I spent allot of time working in Australia, the Liberal leftism even then was shocking. I don’t think Canadians pay much attention to the great failures of socialist Australian society. Like all Liberal totalitarians they censor and veil much of it, even as they watch their quality of life and social order measurably declining.
Anti science does not really capture the zeitgeist; we live in the age of anti reality. This is the destination that government run education has delivered us to.
What the picture says to me is that to live as Gang Green would dictate, is to live either under a Stalinist regime or to live in the inhospitable conditions of the polar Antarctic or Central Sahara.
Anti-Human or inhuman. Choose wisely.
I can spot the similarity. Two socialist governments same result.
N.K. is insulted to be compared to S.A……/sarc….
The average NK has no choice, the arseholes in South Aus voted this in.
Ontario can join that club.

What did leftist’s use before candles?
Electricity.
It’s so simple: Wrapping one’s self in the enviro flag – tax all productivity. All of it. Government gets lots more money for social programs to help the poor.
Emissions plummet. Mind boggling success! Luckily the government has our money to help (themselves) out when the jobs stop, when we’re all poor.
Taxing air. A gift to government, especially the fatal conceit statists who intend to control our preferences, our thoughts and thus our freedom.
The poor like paying rising carbon taxes out of their dwindling real incomes and can’t wait to receive less disposable income via federal carbon taxes.
As long as they know that Justin has saved the planet for them. Poverty is their buy in.
They’d just order a pizza for their family on a Friday night. What of the climate though? Honest, the kids will understand.
Perhaps grandma could spoil the kids for free after she pays her $1000 hydro bill.
But of course none of this would have happened if this wasn’t the HOTTEST year ever in the history of the planet … as measured by NOAA and NASA. Which is all due to your sins against Gaia. YOUR driving of a Subaru Outback CAUSED this heatwave and power outage. This is all YOUR FAULT ! Shame on YOU. YOU might have killed people because of the power outage. YOU are a murderer … because you didn’t ride a bike.
You mean the same NOAA that fudged temperatures for the entire African continent where they have NO measuring equipment? That NOAA?
http://www.theblaze.com/news/2017/02/07/former-noaa-scientist-colleagues-manipulated-climate-change-data-for-political-reasons/
And that is not the only reporting on the corruption of data by the NOAA and NASA, lest someone complain about a single source.
So, North Korea has invaded South Australia?
Not yet. But if they do, it will turn out to be good for South Australia.
What I am disappointed in is that Sask. voted out the NDP but the Sask. party continues on the path that they set. Fire all the planners and top brass at Sask. Power and install nuclear at around Prince Albert to service the north with electric heat thus no gas lines. What has been spent on wind and what will be spent on wind, plus the back up will more than pay for a reactor without the horrendous cost of power lines and access roads and yearly rentals.
Weatherill.
weather? ill!
hmmm…..
Rolling Blackouts.
Nothing says Failure like Rolling Blackouts. Just ask recalled California Governor Gray Davis.
Here is an interesting night time image from NASA. Most of the world appears dark at night including Canada and most of Africa.

Delingpole weights in, with more evidence of green rent dishonesty & chicanery, summing up nicely:
“Renewables do not work. They are a fail. They are an imposition on the consumer, based on a pack of lies invented by anti-capitalist green loons, embraced by corporate shysters, endorsed by ill-informed politicians, promulgated by politically motivated environment and energy correspondents who aren’t doing their job as journalists, and swallowed by brainwashed victims of a dumbed-down education system who are too thick to know better. They are unaffordable, environmentally destructive, morally wrong. The people who make money out of them should retire to their studies with a bottle of whisky and their service pistol and do the decent thing (except they won’t because they’re not decent people).”

Kenji: You are so funny…love your sarcasm! Keep it up, it keeps us all on our toes!!
Subaru? Hahahaha. Two Lincolns, a Wrangler and a Z06. If anyone died, it was for a good cause.
Running out of power temporarily in Australia is not a big deal. At this time of the year, you can sleep outside. I was in Queensland a couple of years ago, even in pouring rain, the rain feels like a warm shower. But wait until it hits a major North American city in sub zero weather, and the pipes start freezing, the traffic lights quit, and the riot starts. We’ll see then what real chaos is all about.
“Running out of power temporarily in Australia is not a big deal.”
Really? Do you think traffic lights work with no power because it’s hot out? How does your freezer, fridge, stove … etc work without electricity when it’s hot?
BTW: SA also gets winter. Unless it has changed drastically, Australia uses electric heating.
OTOH, some union is always on strike in Oz … maybe it’s the renewable’s turn.
That NASA image provides an easy way of comparing energy footprints to refute greenie claims. For example look at Alberta and compare the entire FtMacOilsands operations with Edmonton and Calgary, or move NW and compare the PrudhoeBay complex on the NorthSlope with Fairbanks and Anchorage. The real boundary between N & S Korea is quite apparent.
Oz has a huge solar potential; pissing about with wind is incredibly stupid in their case. A rooftop solar array can easily cover refrigeration, lighting and water pumping, lots of folks down under have them.
such stupidity isn’t worth even a snide comment anymore.
But Lincoln didn’t name any of THEIR landcruisers “outback” … or “Canberra” or “Dundee” now did they ?
To be a leftist, you need to play; word-association-of-the-average-2nd grader …
lyn 🙂
