Puppet’s Puppets

A reader, via email;

Needing to get this off my chest, and think it deserves wider publicity in the current environment. This is the blog that the CEO of our Portland based company put out yesterday:

We wholeheartedly support the importance of national security and safety. We also believe in the equality of every individual, and deeply value every member of our Puppet community worldwide. Respect and inclusion have always been foundational to Puppet.
We remain committed to providing our employees with resources to help them thrive in their professional lives, no matter where they are. We are a global company, and our team works across boundaries and borders. We are taking proactive steps that will enable our people to travel safely, continue to work effectively and serve our customers worldwide. And we are partnering closely with immigration counsel to advise and assist employees who may be disrupted by recent U.S. immigration policy changes.
To help further the protection of human rights everywhere, Puppet is pledging to match up to $25,000 for employee contributions made to the ACLU. Though we’re a small company with limited resources, there’s a lot we can do. We’re in the process of identifying how our employees at our offices around the world can support the refugees in our communities. Often it’s not money but time that makes the biggest difference. Puppet employees get four paid days off to volunteer each year. This is just the beginning, and I hope other companies will join Puppet in our outreach.

I am unable to share the internal e-mails that have also come out in connection with this, suffice to say that I think they would make any Trump voters feel very uncomfortable. […] It also sounds very like this is not the only company playing this game.

I left a series of questions in a comment there, it’s currently being held for approval. If you do the same, please be polite.

  1. As someone who works for a major Canadian company and who sits next to foreigners – that’s right: foreigners sitting in the desks formerly occupied by Canadians who were fired for being too expensive, foreigners who are not temporary but have been here for years – I can see why this CEO feels the way he does.

  2. I left this comment at Puppet ..
“I understand your caring about newcomers, however, the America that you laud in your piece will not be the same place that you enjoyed so much in your history, if it is over-run by refugees … many of whom do not share our values.
Surely you must know that there must be discrimination at our borders if we want to continue with the freedoms and prosperity that you and many other Americans enjoy.
Your ideas play into the hands of those who would restrict free speech as we have seen yesterday at Berkley in San Francisco. Those are the thugs of repression working for the same cause you are promoting.
It has become sick and warped and tough love in in order here. Under Mr. Trump we are taking back America to a place where is was a great country. It has lost much luster under the Obama regime that tore it apart. We are left with unending violent protests over, virtually, nothing.”

  3. Inotherwords … Puppet is a globalist corporation and resents the American voters who have refused to fall prostrate on their knees and worship our international monetary god. We at Puppet will leverage our globalist dollars to unleash the hounds of lawyer hell (ACLU) to attack all you populist puppets.
Please note our soft, quiet, collegial tone and beautiful-sounding words about family, love, peace, and harmony … as we shove a shiv into the gullet of middle America. As we take a steel pipe to skulls of each and every Trump voter (and anyone lose in a RED hat). Hey, sorry about the “collateral damage”, blondie.

  4. Heard in no elevator pitch ever “We’ll have Syrians and Somalis on the watch list Puppeting your company”

  5. a) Who the __ is Puppet?, and
    b) “National security and safety”? Their product suite sounds like a poster child asking for a CIA/Mossad/China/Russia backdoor hack
Moving on – never have, and never will need to spend a dime with them.

  6. “We will continue to hire based on merit, and will never discriminate for any reason.”
How will they hire based on merit if they will never discriminate for any reason?

  7. I note that Puppet has 27 dogs – trapped, held hostage? – in the Portland office. Perhaps we should sic PETA, aka ACLU for Animals, on Puppet…

  8. We also believe in the equality of every individual
    Says it all.
A meaningless and hackneyed phrase peddled by useful idiot CEO’s.
    Puppet is as puppet does.

  9. Yeah … the ACLU likes to defend a member of the American NAZI party or KKK every once in a while. Just so they can claim to be “balanced” in their defense of LIBERTY. Just for the “optics” of it all. So Steyn is their “token” Nazi of the last few years. Trust me … their hearts aren’t in it. It is akin to a public defender taking the case of a child rapist-murderer. It’s their duty … but they HATE what they’re doing.

  10. Sanjay Mirchandani, the CEO of Puppet, is no doubt a very intelligent man. At first glance, it appears that he is just spouting this nonsense to show some sort of virtue rather than actually meaning it. Just words, no real meaning. The text certainly indicates this:
For example, he says “We also believe in the equality of every individual..”. Everyone is equal?? You mean you’ll happily hire the first guy off the street? But, as it is later shown, this is a blatant falsehood because: “We will continue to hire based on merit, and will never discriminate for any reason.”
Just words, virtue signaling, not a coherent thought in the entire tangle.
Note: The distinction between ‘equality under the LAW’ and ‘equality of every individual’ is not a small point.
Oh the other hand I do think that Sanjay has an agenda. I believe he is probably worried very much about what is going to happen with H-1B visas. All these tech companies are. Cheap labor. I wonder if his employees are going to buy it. Nothing more to say.

  11. He has no idea what he is doing..Just because Crows are flocking is not a reason to join them, unless you are a Crow..I hope he doesn’t provide software for ANY customer who performs a Government service under contract..
Note: Macy’s took a stand & they are cooked & done. Picking a fight has losers

  12. I don’t care what they do at Muppet.
Had no time to investigate, is Puppet some sort of dog service company? Cuz ya know, they aren’t going to get tons of job applications from Muslims at a dog care company. Just sayin.
Oddly enough my captcha challenge is Progress DANGER. Ha ha.

  13. 1. India is the largest exporter of IT workforce to the US and could be jolted if the H-1B Visa Bill is passed.
    2. IT big shots -TCS, Infosys, Wipro and others, that enjoy significant cost advantages by sending Indian engineers to the US, are likely to be hit if the minimum salary cap for H-1B visas is raised to $130,000 from its current $60,000.
    3. Employees on the H-1B visa often can’t ask for a raise, change jobs or travel freely without feeling anxious. H-1Bs are sponsored by employers and cannot be transferred from one employer to another.
H1-B Visa holders are good people, educated and hard working (certainly not Yemen class), who are being exploited by tech companies. Also, they take jobs away from equally qualified U.S. Citizens because they are willing to take lower salaries, they don’t cause any troubles for the company, and because they have hopes for a Green Card (permanent resident) or citizenship.
The H1-B visa system is being abused by the tech companies.

  14. Imagine a hockey team in which about half the player are helping the opposite team win the Stanley cup.
they are not helping the team they are in, they are helping the other team.
That is what leftist do, that is what leftists are.

  15. “We also believe in the equality of every individual..”.
“We will continue to hire based on merit ”
those two statements can not ” co-exist” for a lack of a better expression.
A person that has more merit and gets hired and will get a huge paycheck is not equal to the person who has less merit and was not hired.
If they were equal Puppet would hire both and pay them the exact same salary.
Another thing, “refugee” or ” muslim” or ” illegal alien” tells you nothing about merit.
why are they fighting for refugees or muslim immigrants or illegal alien?
does the status of refugee/muslim/illegal magically give merit to a person?
What Puppet ( and the left in general ) is saying is that refugees/muslims/illegals have more value than other people.
    Now THAT is discrimination.
That is judging people by anything BUT the content of their character.

  16. Ha,
“I wonder if his employees are going to buy it.”
Do you think Hell will get any colder?

  17. Did the company try the same thing when Obama did it in 2011?
Did the company try the same thing when Clinton stated that there were too many Muslim immigrants coming into the country in his state of the Union address?
Did the head of the company actually read the EO? Did he understand it was only TEMPORARY, and only seeks stronger vetting of these “refugees”?
Does the head of the company recognize that there are some 40 or 50 OTHER MUSLIM COUNTRIES that the EO does NOT apply too?

  18. Statistically 90% of European ‘migrants’ are unemployed. Puppet, being an international company, should employ them both at home and abroad. Mere ‘lip-service’ is an empty gesture that the rest of us pay for.
Instead, Puppet should be their pay master and see how that works out for them.
Put your business model where your social justice mouth is, Puppet.

  19. This happened where I work too this week. I too can’t show any internal e-mails, but they are actively advising people “who might draw the attention of U.S. authorities”.
Which makes me wonder just what the heck???
All of ours are internal communication though.

  20. If you have an opposing view to the seditionist ‘Brass-Hats”, you might consider a Post-It resistance.
You just have to get some packets of Post-Its(best they be your own purchase and DO keep the receipt lest you be accused of stealing) and then stick them in commonly used places(copier room, lunch room, rest room) and remind people that there is an alternate point of view for consideration, or just for solidarity with those who share your view so that they know that their views are shared and reciprocated by others.
In expressing your view, keep it short, pithy, and try to be entertaining as well as informing.
    Good luck.

  21. “This happened where I work too this week. I too can’t show any internal e-mails, but they are actively advising people “who might draw the attention of U.S. authorities”. 6/4
If all the paperwork is in order Green Card Holders are OK.. If they (Corps) have been cheating the Company will be in serious trouble…When the SOB Pollard was caught spying for Israel, all procedures changed and Green card holders became an unacceptable security risk. It limited what projects you could work on & severely limited Career Ops.. Citizenship is the only real option and be careful.. they have traps.
The Ninth circuit has jumped into the game..Now 2 opposing courts (SC ripe) The ninth circuit will be appealed and if not flushed…It goes all the way..FAST (9th is under Kennedy) Does he want to retire with a Turd beside his name.

  22. I don’t believe in the equality of the individual, I believe in the freedom of every individual because we never were or ever will be 100% equal.

  23. Virtue Signaling whether it is by individuals or groups or companies has become the mania of the age. There is no logic or sense or rationality. It is simply look at me (or my company) how good we are.
All Puppet is doing is Virtue Signaling. After all how many of puppet’s recruits come from Somalia or Yemen or Iran or the like. I wager none. Certainly no high level person otherwise we’d have heard about it , in spades.

  24. It all started by adding the word … GREEN ! … to their soapboxes. Meaningless drivel … lapped-up by a superficial public, half-educated to H2-c status
So now every perceived “cause” gets a mention on the product label. And no … I DO NOT want to DONATE food for the homeless while I am checking out at the local supermarket. I gave at the office !

  25. > “I wonder if his employees are going to buy it.”
Who do you think asked him to post it? Yeah. We did.
