Children have a strange way of changing you, perhaps even more, than you alter their personalities. Reality also dispels irrational fears and immaturity. If you read her column you can already see that her fears and disappointment about having a baby boy have disappeared. Talk to her in ten years and I’d bet it’s her attitudes towards men and boys that will have radically changed and softened. Being a progressive she’d hate the comparison but raising a son will eliminate her anti-male bigotry just like having gay friends/colleagues ends homophobia. If only we could get the progressive chattering class to more closely interact with the working class then their bigotry would similarly disappear (though I’m sure some of their best friends are prairie/Midwest farmers and oil rig workers, amiright?)

That would require actually clicking the provided link and reading through the entire article before commenting, which based on all experience is an unrealistic expectation for most folks here.
… sometimes … when driving past a fatal car wreck, I refuse to rubberneck and view the carnage … a) I don’t want to add to the traffic jam, and b) I don’t want to see something awful and disturbing … just for the sake of looking. Curiosity has its limits.
