9. This sort of ties in to the soul searching on the progressive side about the torrent of abuse that their female and sensitive-male politicians receive nowadays (as per the recent news stories and CBC panel discussion).
   Both sides are hearing a lot of unpleasant and offensive talk from their critics. So what else is new? Blogs and forums provide a safety valve for this to some extent, I should have argued this more vigorously in court but it just sounded a bit contrived in my own head, still, when there’s no public place to rant and rave, the impulse can next best be handled by direct if anonymous commentary to the persons who represent the political outrage du jour.
   The fact that it is symmetric on either side of the cultural divide is something that few if any have cared to comment on or delve into. Not only are there two solitudes, I would say there are two mirror image camps of zealots and their detractors. Neither side is really any better than the other, it becomes a question of who controls the dialogue but dialogue control is not truth, just propaganda winning out.
   Personally, I don’t care much about horrid comments, I spent the first five years of my time in Canada dealing with them on a daily basis until I had the accent beaten out of me (now people kill to get that same accent, irony of ironies). There isn’t much I didn’t already hear and when you’re unpopular in any given circles, what you hear is fairly soul-destroying unless you have a solid rock as your foundation. Some reading this will know who I mean, others might need to go to the mall and listen but probably you won’t hear that much nowadays.
   Trump knows how to dish it out, so he can probably soak it up as well. He’s hardly going to succumb to depression in his situation.

21. I don’t usually discuss politics at work but I was watching a CNN thing in the corridor as I walked past, and another guy also did the same. He complained that the Carrier deal was all set up, that it was just a show. He was peeved that Trump had a victory. I said that it still happened, however or whyever, the jobs stay. He finally broke down and sputtered that he “hates that man”. That’s too bad, I said, out of sympathy.
    How could he hate Trump when he has never met him and probably never heard him speaks (because he hates him). This is the profound effect that the MSM propaganda has had on his mind and that of many credulous “radicals” and lazy minded people.
    I am inventing new words for such people: Credicules; crediculous; Credulous News Network. Yes, Maolings and Credicules. There’s a whole new Thesaurus out there 🙂

25. I wonder if this lady and her confreres recognise that in probably >30% of the countries on this planet, her “punishment” might well have been imprisonment for such a remark.
    As much as it was a stupid and juvenile thing to say, it is good that we still live in a society where she can say it. Her type tend to take that for granted.
