  1. Just curious, apropos of absolutely nothing on SDA, has anyone been watching the French TV series (made in France) called “A French Village”?

  2. Vancouver, at UBC:
    http://bc.ctvnews.ca/i-put-him-in-a-chokehold-students-stopped-attack-in-ubc-dorm-1.3101798
On Wednesday, officers announced that charges had been laid against an 18-year-old in connection with the frightening attack.
Court records show counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon have all been approved against Thamer Hameed Almestadi, one day after the assault that left some on campus feeling uneasy.
The victim, a first-year student, was rushed to hospital where she is expected to recover from non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators with the RCMP’s university detachment haven’t verified the details of witness accounts provided to CTV News, but did confirm that the attack occurred at Salish House around 11:30 a.m.
Police said the attack was not random, and that the victim and suspect know each other.
Friends of the suspect and the victim told CTV News both are first-year students who lived inside the residence where the crime occurred, but they aren’t known to be acquaintances. It is believed that the victim lived on the third floor, and the suspect lived on the fourth.
The suspect is an international student from Saudi Arabia, and was studying engineering. He has been banned from the campus following the charges, and remains in police custody.

  3. Most who have seen it seem to find it’s difficult not to view every episode in one week. Best if you happen to be sick in bed with the flu.
Gripping tale as it explores the German occupation in a small French village and how it affects its inhabitants. Covers everything during that period from the innocent villages to collaborators to resistance to communists and makes you ask yourself “What would I have done?” especially as the Jews are rounded up both by the French and the Germans. Those scenes can still break your heart. So well acted. Nothing in this series is for the light-hearted.
Don’t understand the complicated love stories nor the kind of sex scenes I would have thought were only in X-rated movies. Not sure why so much flesh and grunting was necessary other than to show the French were no slouches when it came to adultery.
It’s in its 6th season and, unless you’re fluent in French, be sure to look for the series with English subtitle. I think they are planning a 7th season.
The acting is superb. Highly recommended by all who have seen it.

  4. Hannity calls out Megyn Kelly as a Clinton Supporter…The support that Kelly had for Rubio makes one wonder if he may jump ship as an October Surprise. She does not want Trump to dig further into the Miss Universe….That would have been a mistake because somewhere in Florida is a Lawyer with a sworn statement in his safe…Now that Miss Universe has been found to be a liar, that lawyer is hiding out & further nonsense is unlikely…. IMHO Megyn Kelly provided a Dog Whistle to BLM when she did the Bill Ayers Story…Look the FBI (Felt) will protect you if someone gets killed…..Kelly is a lawyer, they are without a bone of decency.

  5. “But, if the news on the ratings are any indication, Americans are beginning to get fed up with the constant drumbeat of liberal politics shoehorned into their once beloved forms of apolitical entertainment.”

I gave up on watching otherwise loser millionaires playing games as entertainment long ago. That said, wanted to take this chance to sincerely thank all those putting their money where their mouths are and NOT watching the NFL. Especially when I understand it is a passionate pastime for many and a boycott, even a temporary one, is a real sacrifice for some.
Fellow “conservatives” getting out of their “comfort zones” and taking action, don’t often see it, get energized when I do.

  6. Good article Maz. Not new info but well put together. A story of actual science being done.

  7. I watched that video a few nights ago. It really is incredible, and I don’t know if anyone else has scored a 147 break in less than six minutes in tournament play besides Ronnie O’Sullivan.
A an aside, these capthcas are getting ridiculous. It’s bad enough that it’s showing two words no matter how often I refresh, often the words and even letters are only partially shown.

  8. That has the ring of credibility. I believe that those “of colour” who manage to get teaching jobs are extra good. They will have worked very hard and probably have a lot of empathy. Some of the tenured white guys have been around forever and are probably cranky by now. Having said that, what is the point of researching this and would they have publicized results if they showed the opposite?

  9. Indeed; the “ring of credibility” is all they seem to need these days.
“Cherng and Halpin found that all the students, including white students, had significantly more favorable perceptions of Latino versus white teachers across the board, and had significantly more favorable perceptions of black versus white teachers on at least two or three of seven categories in the survey.”
So we can safely put this in the “nuanced statistics” column.

  10. LindaL – Once I read about it, I went searching. Maybe when the series is complete Netflix will carry it.

  11. Donald, connect these dots:
“Hillary Clinton says climate change is “wreaking havoc on communities across America.” Clinton warns that Hurricane Hermine “is not the last one that’s going to hit Florida given what’s happening in the climate.” She says, “When it comes to protecting our country against natural disasters and the threat of climate change, once again, Donald Trump is totally unfit and unqualified”.”
Maybe, but he seem fit and qualified to protect the country from Hillary’s one world despotism.
    http://www.climatedepot.com/2016/09/06/hillary-blames-hurricane-on-climate-change-says-trump-unfit-to-protect-usa-from-the-threat-of-climate-change
Americans don’t see it Hillary’s way on climate change:
“Pew: Most Americans Don’t Believe in ‘Scientific Consensus’ on Climate Change.”
“… only 27 percent of Americans agree that “almost all” climate scientists say that human behavior is mostly responsible for climate change, while 35 percent say that “more than half” of climate scientists agree on this.”
Americans seemed to lack trust in climate scientists’ solutions to climate change. Only 19 percent say climate scientists understand very well the best ways to address climate change, and 35 percent say the scientists understand this not too well or not at all.”

  12. My local library has DVD’s with English subtitles. I imagine those are also purchasable online. I have watched Homeland and The Americans on DVD, both of which are very good.
