  1. The Alberta government is running advertisements claiming that closing coal-fired power plants will benefit Albertans by reducing health costs and saving lives. Anti-coal activists used an image of a little girl with an asthma inhaler. The linked You Tube video (below) looks at the evidence on air quality, causes of deaths in Alberta and asthma triggers.
It is clear that the Alberta government is skewing the story on coal. (“Skewing” is being very polite.)
Based on this review of the evidence, closing coal-fired power plants will be a tremendous cost to Albertans with no health benefits—contrary to the Alberta government’s claims.

  2. CAS: If you look at the video at 0:14, that is a photo of a coal fired electrical generation plant at Giesenkirchen, Germany. That is not Alberta, and that is not smoke coming from the stacks, that is water vapor being condensed in sub-zero freezing weather. Another MSM outlet (Associated Press) misrepresenting facts.

  3. The Alberta green ads on you-tube are constant and unrelenting. They aren’t on the 5 second, then delete. The only way to make them stop is hit the mute button on your screen’s volume control. It would be interesting to know how much they’ve spent.

  4. When CKUA started running Red Rachel’s “saving Alberta from prosperity” ads, I decided to stop listening to that station. I won’t willingly subject myself to deliberate attempts at indoctrination and convincing me that black is white.

  5. On the topic of Green ideas. The Airlander 10 was advertised as the ”largest aircraft in the world.” The helium filled balloon that resembled Kim Kardashian’s behind crashed on it’s second test flight, two days ago, in England.

  6. It’s the typical tactic of justifying an unpopular action by creating a crisis when none exists.
It’s another example of government arrogance that equates being elected with any policy that it wants to inflict, whether or not it was discussed in the election.

  7. Two 41-year-old friends from Manitoba, Canada, have broken down in tears after being told they were switched at birth and spent their lives with each other’s biological family. David Tait and Leon Swanson were swapped in the government-run Norway House Hospital in 1975 in the western Canadian province of Manitoba, DNA testing has confirmed.
‘I want answers so bad,’ Tait said, choking back tears at a press conference in Winnipeg on Friday. Norway House is made up of two northern Manitoba communities and has a population of about 5,000 predominantly indigenous Cree Nation people. Eric Robinson, a former Manitoba cabinet minister who is helping the men in their case,
says the government ‘owes them’, and should face criminal charges.

The Canadian government owes them- those are tears of joy.
Many new toys and several wide screen tvs, maybe even a movie theatre.

  8. Thanks for the Rowan Atkinson link, great way to start the day.
If you watch it, I recommend hanging in for the next video that features a truly unique(or possessed, your call)drummer. And, if you like that one, the same “rent-a-band” do a very entertaining version of “Wipeout” on the third video.

  9. Oh puleeze. Switched at birth would be devastating and the men and their families deserve both an explanation and decent compensation. Your sarcasm is quite petty and small minded.

  10. Plainzfyre
Yes, Michelle states that the coal plant was not even in Alberta. I have photos from the Sheerness plant and the air is crystal clear. The green-leaning media always show steam from industry and coal plants in cold weather spewing water vapour….ooooooow. Water vapour. And a pass through Photoshop to change contrast, clarity etc and the water vapout looks like brown sludge being emitted.
BTW Plainzfyre, did you know that Germany just opened a coal electrical plant last November? Germany gets touted as being so green and yet their “Energiewende” is a failure in that emissions of CO2 have remained the same for 3 or 4 years and they have spent hundreds of BILLIONS on subsidizing PVs and wind. But their grid falls short in winter when there is no wind and sun. Idiots.
The most upsetting thing about the NDP ads is that they simply lie about health effects of coal plants.
I wrote a long letter to all MLAs in Alberta this week about the “grand NDP coal lies narrative.” Got a couple responses from NDP MLAs. At least they read it. (I’d post my letter here but it will be rejected because it has links to Alberta Health sites and is way too long anyway.) Let me know if you want to see the letter. Using Alberta Health data (that the deputy premier/health minister tried to hide from me) I have disproved their “coal-health” claims.
The NDP idiots are steamrolling eco regs and policy because they know they are a one night stand. Heck even NDP backbenchers are expressing concern about the authoritarian (fascist) tactics of cabinet.

  11. Our youngest son was quite stricken with asthma when he was young. Driving by a canola field might trigger it as did driving down refinery row near Edmonton. Funnily enough, and we did this quite often as we have friends and family in the area, driving by the power stations near Forestberg and Sheerness never caused so much as a wheeze.

  12. Clean-combustion coal-fuel power plants in Canada are not the problem. It’s burning dirty coal in Asia with no stack scrubbing that contributes most of the toxic air pollution that drifts over Canada and poisons our water and land, and about 50% of the global GHGs which some people believe causes the climate to change.
Making cheap disposable consumer junk in Asia is causing most of the toxic pollution, global GHGs, and filling our garbage dumps. The amount of Canadian oil we burn to heat our buildings and fuel our vehicles is insignificant by comparison with the amount of pollution caused by the junk we buy that’s made in Asia. Canadian petroleum is at least ten times cleaner per energy unit delivered, than coal burned in Asia.
None of the so-called political leaders have the integrity to say “If you want to stop greenhouse gas emissions and toxic pollution, stop buying cheap cràp from China until they clean up their act.” That’s the Asian Elephant in the room everyone is trying so hard to ignore.
The NDP&LIB refuse to acknowledge these facts and instead want to penalize the Canadian economy with carbon taxes, shut down low-pollution coal fired plants in Canada, and erect more wind turbines and solar panels made by polluting factories in China.
