Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

What Liz J said.
Why when someone is retiring after years of commendable service to his country would the naysayers feel they needed to bring up everything they disagreed with.
I still say he shouldn’t have left $1M of his pension for this govt to waste.
And he should have appointed more Senators, and been very cautious whom he appointed.
Other than that, a great Prime Minister. Will we see another one?
Three things that I thank Prime Minister Harper for.
One – following through on a promised cut to the GST
Two – ending the subsidy to Chretien subsidy to political parties
Three – following through on a promise to give our military the much needed heavy lift capability with the purchase of the C7.
There is a forth but that reason stands out as the reason he should be given respect.
That is his governments position on Israel. And its not just that he took the position, but the reason.
It was a position not taken to be “liked” but to be an honest broker.
Sadly on October of 2015 a majority of those that cast a ballot threw that respect away for pretentiousness
Thank you to Stephen Harper. He was a fine Prime Minister. I feel we are floundering without him. Canadians will soon feel the impact, but for now they allow themselves to be deluded that Trudeau is actually leading the country. Everything changes, but I would have like a few more years of Stephen Harper — his intelligence, wisdom and commitment to Canada — especially in these dangerous times.
Is there a childish asshole on the face of the planet who doesn’t hate Stephen Harper?
I was always proud of my late father, not so much because of the friends he had – he had a lot, but they were a very mixed bag – but because of his enemies. He had very few, but every one was a transparent scumbag.
I take one look at the people who hate Stephen Harper, and I know beyond doubt that he’s a good man.
And we have a Troll here, yeahwellsowhat. Back to your bridge where you can do your goat and admire Pm Selfie Stupid on the poster by your bed. Wet dreams for LIEberal trolls
“I know beyond doubt that he’s a good man.” He is a good man. I cringe when I think of how badly he was treated by the the left, the media and the entrenched bureaucracy. Many of those attacking him are small minded hypocrites. They now have the government they deserve. And yet, Harper’s farewell was very gracious. I hope Harper finds rewarding work ahead in a context where he is fully appreciated.
Harper had little support or backup against the incessant progressives in the last few years as PM. Most conservatives can share in the disaster we have now. Harper alone couldn’t fix the wave of stupidity. Conservatives became complacent thinking common sense was universal.
I like and respect the Man and the Politician.
Thank you Mr. Harper.
Harper was elected by about 39% of the popular vote, which translates into about 20% or less of the actual population. So governing from the center as Harper did was the right thing. Some things many in here don’t git, is that an elected leader govern ALL the people, and therefore can not govern on a strong ideological leaning to one segment of the population. And also, because of this, leaders and politicians need to leave their personal agendas and religion at home. So have a nice day in your fairy tale world.
LOL.
Yes, only the libs can govern from a strong ideological basis, for conservatives to do so is a violation of the libs right to enslave us all, with their democratic majority.
I refuse to be served shit and have it called chocolate.
Bon apetit, peons.
And your hatred for Harper stems from your firearms.
Do you now have a stable economy in which to use your firearms?
No one is going to declare Harper as the model of perfection but your pouting is as eloquent a criticism of the man as any leftist’s.
Harper elevated Canada to a level of importance it has not enjoyed since the Second World War. He ran a stable economy when other countries were floundering. He took domestic terrorism seriously.
Yes, he let in droves of migrants, invited the Chinese to take our oil and failed to destroy the CBC for once and for all.
He was also a man of accomplishments. He didn’t stutter when he talked. He kept his head and never elbowed women in the chest. He defended Ukraine when the real globalist Putin annexed part of it.
There are his accomplishments and failures separate from Trudeau.
Now you have Trudeau. See if that whimpering man-child can top those.
Again, better than the turd is not a valid endorsement.
I voted for Harper, even after his lackluster-designed-to-lose campaign that gave us the turd.
Firearms are the last, best protection against tyranny. The Americans know that, at least.
If Harper had, say, de-regulated the economy, and protected private property rights (essentially the same thing), then maybe your arguments would have merit. As it is, Harper was just another cog in the globalist/commie/Islamic machine designed to relieve us of what few freedoms we have left.
The coup in the Ukraine was a US Democrat/EU/Soros thing.
Putin has done very little to us, other than take advantage of our unwillingness to secure the arctic.
You watch, the west, with its faggotized PC armies will soon succumb to real armies that aren’t afraid of being called rude names.
I should also remind you that the leader of EVERY SINGLE NATO country is currently importing muzz as fast sas they can, and that NATO handed Kosovo to the muzz, tried milosovic for defending that part of Eastern Europe from the muzz, handed Libya to jihadists, supported the MB’s “Arab Spring” coups in north Africa, and so on. Not Putin, NATO.
I wish I could send a personal “THANK YOU” to Mr. Harper that he could actually, personally read, but I’m sure he knows we collectively appreciate all he has done and we shall sorely miss him.
Watching and reading the Canadian right fawn over Harper is worse than watching the left fawn over the Turd. I would have expected more from the so-called right.
You’re entire argument is: “He took my guns away!”
Does the Canadian electorate look like the cast of “Red Dawn”?
Are there any real statesmen waiting in the wings?
Canada just doesn’t produce these statesmen you think exist.
You’re throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
And you don’t even have a problem with Putin. He’s not Obama or Trudeau, after all.
You’re just being contrary for the fun of it.
Aside from his obnoxiousness yeah well has made some good points.
I think he is off on one thing though Harper is the only leader of the west to look Putin in the face and tell him to get out of Crimea ….it may have done nothing it may have been for show who knows but I do applauded him for doing so .
Harper did very good for Canada and I think yeah well is entitled to his criticisms ….Harper could have abolished the entire gun act , he could have done a lot more with his majority but I think Harper used diplomacy I think he figured that if he was incremental and showed a concern for leftist issues it would garner him respect and in turn should Canadians have given him a minority he would be able to cash in on some good efforts to be fair Harper is a man after his time ….a man that should have been pm in the 1930-80’s where his type of tactics would be respected by all and he would have been given the credit for his steady slow hand and the ability to take the moral high ground …..today’s politicians are out for blood , gloves are off and politeness and moral high grounds are for “weak minded” people (we have lost the ability to see strength in humility) so get ready for the rough sees and if the right does not start looking for a ham fisted hard hitting unapologetic concervative fiscal and social we will be gunless, right less, penniless and hopeless….blood will be spilled
I voted for Harper. Who have I thrown out with the bathwater, other than quislings?
The domestic left is a bigger threat than Putin or Islam.
It is we Canadians who should be thanking you Mr. Harper for everything you did do and everything that you wanted to do for Canada and if anyone might question your efforts then they should start counting backwards now and by the time they hit 30 billion (the current deficit) we can tell them to just continue counting.
“And we have a Troll here,…”
Absolutely pure concern troll, who remembers the good old times “when you could get on a bus … ” yeah we all long for when we could use mass transit the way we wanted. Poor leftist so detached from reality he/she/it fails when pretending to have anything to do with normal folk. I’ll give him a D- for effort though.
Belated comment from my first
There is something else I thank Harper for.
Making the entire liberal left go into a state of hysteria every time he succeeded in making an achievement.
When he won the leadership of the CA even though those critics insisted he couldn’t.
When he successfully united the two parties into an effective opposition, even when the critics said he wouldn’t.
When he became leader of the new conservative party they said he would never win an election.
When he won a federal mandate, three times, in spite of his critics insistence he could not and would not win a majority.
And each time he won the left, enabled by the publically funded broadcaster, insisted for a decade that he was just a flash in the pan and would fail to accept that his win wasn’t just an anomoly.
For that I thank him….and the fact that just by saying “Prime Minister Stephen Harper” his critics particularly Justin Leisuresuit Larry Trudeau, get unhinged.
with Stephen Harper in charge, Canada was the best country in the world. No more.
Well don’t watch. The right is not prone to “fawn” (as you describe it). In this case, a man whom most of us greatly respect is leaving the public arena. Canada is the lesser for it.
So far, all I’ve had from you and your neocon ilk are ad-homs and insults, not one single refutation of the myriadpoints I’ve made, so GFY, punk.
Points? What points? (Other than the one on top of your head?) You’re making a half assed attempt at pretending to sound like a disgruntled “all or nothing” libertarian. These aren’t your points just the standard me me me libertarian boilerplate.
Harper…isn’t he the guy who lost an election to Justin Trudeau?
Bet that sticks in your craw.
creepy attention-getting is what the Lieberals want in a ‘leader’. For them ‘truth’ is a malleable commodity and what really matters is how it’s perceived and portrayed in the media that the Lieberals are addicted to. They only view the media that reinforces their preconceived notions.
The Libs I know actually believe they are making a better world by ignoring any negativity or criticism, and pretending everything’s ‘sunny’, and JT’s the very best PM since his father. It seems like so much fawning obeisance to Le Dauphin of New France. It’s like the fable “The King’s New Set of Clothes”.
Harper was a class act, one of the last of the true statesman PMs.
I agree. Also what is not mentioned is that he had two minority wins and one majority. The way he stickhandled the minority wins was, I think admirable. When you think back to mess left by Brian Mulroney the mind boggles.
The level of animosity towards him and his family in the Canadian media was shameful. Compare it to the lovefest going on today with the Ottawa Kardashians.
I intend to pen a letter to him to thank him for the contribution and sacrifice made by him and his family.
Thanks for a job well done.
As for resigning part way through a term, there should be no criticism of that. It’s a step in rebuilding the party. It allows one more CPC MP to have 3 or 4 years experience next election. It’s like saying a sports team or player can’t make any changes during the season.
One thing is for certain, there will be no grey hairs on the current PM moron when he is finally booted from this prestigious office, when your world is selfies and media morons fellating you, there are no worries. Harper is a great man who cared for Canada, Im afraid for the selfie/kartrashian generation that thought this vapid spawn of a communist, and certifiable idiot, was capable of this job. Steven should have signed off with “God Help Canada”.
Is this the same Putin you have no problem with? THAT Putin.
You want things both ways.
Can’t happen.
Jean, Trudeau is a grade-A creep, something the popular press seems to have no problem with.
Exactly how are people from other countries supposed to respect Canadians when they see what a lecherous, vacuous moron Trudeau is?
But this is the popular culture. That’s why Harper is as good a statesman as Canada will get.
Don, my thoughts exactly.
Like you say, twelve years, some of us that are a little long in the tooth probably will not see anything but a Laurentian Elite Soros puppet taking selfies in the PM’s chair.
Thank you Stephen Harper for trying.
I’ll miss you Steve, more to the point I’ll miss the only chance we had to put the Liberals in a bag.
Corruption rules the roost with the boy prince Kardashian as the puppet.
As Colonista stated we to be Venezuala north.
“Well enjoy his replacement now, and rest assured that once the Libranos are done with the electoral reform, you will never have to worry about Harper again, as you will never have a right of center government in this country again.”
I am afraid that you are absolutely correct in that assessment. The Laurentian Elite and George Soros have won.
Joseph, to add to your list include also getting rid of the Cdn Wheat Board and the long gun registry. Although, I expect that both will be back as Soros’ Butt will bring these both back in some form.
“In this case, a man whom most of us greatly respect is leaving the public arena. Canada is the lesser for it.”
Yes. I slept better knowing Mr. Harper was PM. I criticized him, yes. But I slept better then than I do now.
Brings a tear to my eye. Politics aside one of the most decent men we have ever seen in Canadian politics. A genuine mensch. Left or Right this should be recognized and appreciated.
I’m only surprised Canada had such a sterling conservative PM for so long. I live in Thailand, but I’ve never lost my affection for Canada. I’d really come to believe Canada had turned the corner and become a civilized center-right country that could expect continued excellent growth under leaders like Harper. Now I realize it was only Harper’s brilliance that allowed him to stay in power so long. Now it’s back to the same old descent into socialist ruin that’s been Canada’s off & on story since WW2. Really, there are literally few if any Western countries as socialist as Canada, excepting such Marxist klepto-states as Venezuela. A majority of Canadians really buy into all the demented tropes of cultural Marxism (political correctness). Nowhere is political correctness holy writ the way it is in Canada. I was most impressed by Harper’s speech to the Knesset in Israel. What sterling exceptional statesmanship! Such a contrast to the current PM, who only gets in the news when he takes another shirtless selfie & emails it off to the media. What a pathetic embarrassment. He’s Canada’s Obama. Witness the dementia now evident in Canada re Trump. Canadians are going off the deep end in their witless hostility. Go watch Nigel Farage’s speech at a Trump rally last week. Whoa, awesome. LOL Bring on Farage!! Canada has consigned itself to irrelevance & economic ruin, and frankly, if Canadians can elect such zeroes as Turdeau, Wynne, and Notely, does it deserve any better?
