Thiel did this for revenge. Gawker outed him for no good reason. Nick Denton is lucky that Thiel used the legal system. It could have been a lot faster and probably a whole lot cheaper for him to go after Denton, the reporters and Gawker extrajudicially.

Personal injury lawyers vs big media awholes …. is there really any difference. Both are dedicated to personal influence and with lining their pockets with money ….. while pretending to be righteous. Neither produces one G*d D**n worthwhile thing.

When I was a child in the’60s, it was fairly common for people to carry with them something called an “autograph book”.
I suppose it could have been a ‘fad’ because I haven’t seen anyone carry such a thing in decades.
I suppose, since the people who back then indulged themselves in such a social fetish were people who had “addictive personalities”, that those people and people who have the likewise character weakness(such that they imagine that because they have a vicarious connection to people who seek ‘FAME’ for a like reason that they somehow become more worthy/famous)
Really, if they valued, enjoyed, cherished their own short time on this earth more, they wouldn’t have a need to live vicariously through people(celebrities) who have an insatiable need to seek validation and applause from total strangers who likewise feel a lack of individual self-worth.
It’s an amazing world we live in. Just open up and let yourself be amazed by the goodness that is a part of being alive.
You don’t have to buy concert tickets to have the best seat.
I guess it’s part of the human condition. I’m very content with my own life, such as it is. It’s alienating to see other people needing to feed on the approval of strangers. Alienating in that I can’t really feel or understand what these people hunger for.
The good stuff is really all there for you. If only the government would stop trying to take it away bit by bit.
