After I saw the CBS(?) interview with Assad I began to believe as you do. The minute that the Russians got involved they bombed the ISIS oil convoys leaving Iraq for Turkey. The Turks under Erogan have been smuggling ISIS oil to market with USA knowledge.
I supported Canada in Afganistan initially but that is done. Canada has no national security issues in the ME other than the attacks on Canadian production that OPEC has been underwriting for several years. Libya was a joke and Canada dutifully drank the Euro BS and joined in. Yes just like Kosovo.
The political solution in the ME is likely millions of displaced people causing insurrection in their own country or neighbouring countries. Canada should not be taking Syrian refugees to encourage the ongoing fight.
America and her followers have been sucked into the ME with the only outcome being a schizophrenic policy of vacillating between helping Shias against Sunnis here and vice versa there (the mythical Dar al-Islam end game).

In my opinion Afghanistan was a necessary war. The 9/11 attack came out of Afghanistan. As a NATO member we were obligated to respond to an attack on the US.
The problem with Iraq was it led to inactivity in Afghanistan and the Taliban had several years to rebuild.

I also was in the camp that supported the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, but all the interference in the ME and North Africa has become a total disaster with nothing to show for it but the spread of militant Islam in one country after another in the ME and now in Europe and North America. Eventually these countries will band together in a modern day caliphate and make war on the countries that have not already succumbed to the internal militants.

One of my sons-in-law, an elementary school teacher, told us at our annual summer family get together this last weekend about the major problems in some of the schools.
