  1. I keep thinking of the movie “Breaking Away” in which the main character sings it while on his way home on his bike.

  2. Once again, the Trudeau Liberals, with the help of the CBC and former astronaut Marc Garneau, now Canadian Minister of Transport, are picking at Canadian and American oil companies to make political brownie points in front of an unsuspecting public.
    Today, Transport Minister Garneau announced that present railroad equipment used to transport crude oil will be phased out starting November 01-16. The use of double walled cars will be then be compulsory. Garneau used the CBC to provide footage of the Lac Megantic rail disaster of July 06-2013 to justify the huge expense that is being bestowed upon Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railways, along with other railroad companies. A move that is sure to increase the price of refined fuels greatly.
    While the massive fire, along with the deaths and injuries that followed have no doubt shaken the nation, one would have assumed that Garneau, a former naval commander and astronaut, would have had the respect and common sense not to use such an incident for political gain. Especially given the fact that negligence and not oil was the cause of the disaster. Negligence by employees of an American railroad entity.
    It’s a well known fact that faulty railroad equipment that had been left unattended for the night of July 06-13, and without proper braking equipment caused the runaway train, and not the cargo it was carrying. The train freewheeled 7 miles from Nantes, PQ to Lac Megantic, PQ, along a downward slope of 100 meters. When the freewheeling train arrived in Lac Megantique, it was traveling at speeds over 60 MPH. The derailment and subsequent pileup caused the tank cars, loaded with crude oil, to ignite. 47 people lost their lives.
    If a semi trailer unit loaded with watermelons and traveling along Highway 401 towards Toronto loses a wheel and crashes into another semi-trailer unit loaded with propane, causing an explosion, are the watermelons the cause of the disaster or was it not the loose wheel?? Of course trying to reason with Liberals is like trying to reason with watermelons. It just doesn’t work.

  3. This wouldn’t, by any chance, be a deliberate attack on Alberta by the imposition of yet another constraint on our ability to get our oil to market, now would it?
    Nah, it has to be coincidence, along with dithering over, if not cancelling, pipeline projects and the banning of tankers along the west coast.

  4. “are the watermelons the cause of the disaster or was it not the loose wheel??”
    Likely Harpreet or Haji in the middle lane doing 101 kph while on the cell phone to Mumbai would be my guess.

  5. I think the Harper gov’t made the same announcement following Lac Megantic. I seem to recall Lisa Raitt saying basically the same thing Garneau just said?
    The rail companies have largely complied.

  6. I see Canada’s very own quisling Minister of Foreign Affairs Celine Dion met recently with his Russian counter part. Wonder how that meeting went? Think the ruskie challenged him to a vodka drinking contest (haha) or did Celine just sit there cowed in his presence much like Vincent Massey did when he was dispatched to Italy prior to WW2 to meet with Mussolini.

  7. Yes. It could be a deliberate attempt to further hurt the economy of Alberta. I am going to go out on a limb here. We know that the Trudeau Liberals are globalists pushing towards one-world government. Toronto and Eastern Canada will be quite compliant. I think that by undermining Alberta they are deliberately weakening any possible pockets of resistance in Canada. If I were an Albertan (I wish I were) I would get out of Canada before they are too weak to do so.

  8. Socialism’s Joe : the end result of the religion of the stomach.

    “The few stores that the peasants managed to put away were soon gone, and they began eating leaves, bark, corn husks, dogs, cats and rodents.
    When that food was gone and the people had puffed up with watery edema, they shuffled off to the cities, begging for bits of bread and dying like flies in the streets. In the spring of 1933, when the previous year’s supplies were gone and before the new vegetation brought some relief, the peasants were dying at the rate of 25,000 a day, or 1,000 an hour, or 17 a minute.
    (In World War II, by comparison, about 6,000 people were killed every day.) Corpses could be seen in every country lane and city street, and mass graves were hastily dug in remote areas. By the time the famine tapered off in the autumn of 1933, some 6 million men, women and children had starved to death.”

  9. A comment below the linked story Putin Calling mentioned Gods of the Copybook Headings, so I took the time to revisit a past favourite. I was struck by the fact Kipling published this in 1919 yet it seems so en vogue.
    “In 1919 he aimed his poetic skills at various latest new things in the modern world that Kipling realized were very old bad ideas dressed up with jargon and sold to the gullible. His poem The Gods of the Copybook Headings reads like a current commentary on our predicament, and more is the pity.”
    “bad ideas dressed up with jargon and sold to the gullible” -= if that doesn’t describe the political Liberal Left to a “T”, I don’t know what does.
    The scary part is that this was Kipling’s warning to us about the ills of socialism, as promoted by the Fabian Society.
    Our Brave New World is lead by a middle-aged man remarkable only for the fact that given so much, he accomplished so little. A celebrity without achievements, plans, principles or ideas. An embarrassment to every member of that great Canadian Minority, the sentient.
    “They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
    But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,”
    “Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
    Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
    “By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
    But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,”
    Liberal/Democrat platform of today and the last 100 years. And beyond.
    Just amazing how prescient Kipling, Orwell, Huxley etc were.
    The Human Condition plus Big Brother and Madison Avenue equals a scary frweaking future.
    The Gods of the Copybook Headings
    AS I PASS through my incarnations in every age and race,
    I make my proper prostrations to the Gods of the Market Place.
    Peering through reverent fingers I watch them flourish and fall,
    And the Gods of the Copybook Headings, I notice, outlast them all.
    We were living in trees when they met us. They showed us each in turn
    That Water would certainly wet us, as Fire would certainly burn:
    But we found them lacking in Uplift, Vision and Breadth of Mind,
    So we left them to teach the Gorillas while we followed the March of Mankind.
    We moved as the Spirit listed. They never altered their pace,
    Being neither cloud nor wind-borne like the Gods of the Market Place,
    But they always caught up with our progress, and presently word would come
    That a tribe had been wiped off its icefield, or the lights had gone out in Rome.
    With the Hopes that our World is built on they were utterly out of touch,
    They denied that the Moon was Stilton; they denied she was even Dutch;
    They denied that Wishes were Horses; they denied that a Pig had Wings;
    So we worshipped the Gods of the Market Who promised these beautiful things.
    When the Cambrian measures were forming, They promised perpetual peace.
    They swore, if we gave them our weapons, that the wars of the tribes would cease.
    But when we disarmed They sold us and delivered us bound to our foe,
    And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “Stick to the Devil you know.”
    On the first Feminian Sandstones we were promised the Fuller Life
    (Which started by loving our neighbour and ended by loving his wife)
    Till our women had no more children and the men lost reason and faith,
    And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “The Wages of Sin is Death.”
    In the Carboniferous Epoch we were promised abundance for all,
    By robbing selected Peter to pay for collective Paul;
    But, though we had plenty of money, there was nothing our money could buy,
    And the Gods of the Copybook Headings said: “If you don’t work you die.”
    Then the Gods of the Market tumbled, and their smooth-tongued wizards withdrew
    And the hearts of the meanest were humbled and began to believe it was true
    That All is not Gold that Glitters, and Two and Two make Four
    And the Gods of the Copybook Headings limped up to explain it once more.
    As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
    There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
    That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
    And the burnt Fool’s bandaged finger goes wabbling back to the Fire;
    And that after this is accomplished, and the brave new world begins
    When all men are paid for existing and no man must pay for his sins,
    As surely as Water will wet us, as surely as Fire will burn,
    The Gods of the Copybook Headings with terror and slaughter return!

  11. Don
    Its a nanos poll, so the percentages will always be inflated. He’s a prime Lieberal backer.
    Of course, when he’s handing out free $500 cheques to every parent with a kid under 18, hisnumbers will be bumped. Now, the yute parents have Mo money for booze, smokes, dinners out, party on! Nothing like free money from Trudope!
    He so kewl!

  12. It’s apparently very slow in polling land. Doing polling on leaders when the two main opposition parties do not have a permanent leader is crapola. Nanos thinks he’s God’s gift to pollsters. Pollsters interfere with the democratic process in that they can ask questions that skew numbers to favour their own biases and lazy, uninformed voters use them to make their own decisions on who they should vote for…..go with the flow syndrome.

  13. Getting out might be a good idea, but there aren’t any safe havens any more. A century or so ago, one could at least move to a colony of the realm and start over again. We don’t have that option any more.

  14. Leave it to the left to advance its cause by inventing a crisis when none exists.

  15. Shoddy polling practices are nothing new.
    Many years ago, my last department head at the institution where I used to teach was like that. Whenever he had an idea about something and wanted to support it, he’d conduct a survey. He made sure he asked the sort of questions which gave him the answers that he was looking for and used those results as proof that he was right.
    Political polling isn’t much different. Of course, the LIVs nowadays would never catch on as they’re too busy playing Pokey Man on their smartphones to even care.

  16. I am not talking about individuals moving away from Alberta. I am talking about Alberta leaving Canada. At one point they were strong enough to do so. If Trump is elected, maybe they could be a new state.

  17. I am not sure what the point of these regular polls is except to foster positive feelings about Trudeau. The polls have not changed — and will not change — until the media decides to change the narrative. What we have is mostly positive coverage of Trudeau and his wonderful positive image and suppression of seriously negative stuff (like some of the difficulties being encountered with the refugee situation . . . suppressed!) Any criticism of the Trudeau Liberals is tepid and half-hearted, and the story quickly moves on. Liberals are not being held to account. In contrast, criticism of Harper was relentless. It is a wonder he lasted as long as he did. People are primarily influenced in their thinking by whatever media narrative is in play. Notice, for example, how with one or two exceptions (e.g. Conrad Black) the Canadian media vilifies Trump . . . and . . . surprise, surprise, Canadians are almost uniformly anti-Trump. Canadians do not think for themselves or spend time considering the facts. Canadians take their cue from the media, and Nanos just keeps the hype in the public eye. It is meaningless.

  18. I agree.
    I think that western Canada should separate as Confederation clearly isn’t working for us any more. We here in the west have become an economic colony of central Canada, something which PET started.
    Prime Minister Gerry what’s-his-name clearly intends to continue the siege with the intention of forcing us into submission. Meanwhile, the Clown Prince is off frolicking with the peasants and taking selfies with them.

    “THE THREE CONJECTURES”
    “Conjecture 3: The War on Terror is the ‘Golden Hour’ — the final chance
    It is supremely ironic that the survival of the Islamic world should hinge on an American victory in the War on Terror, the last chance to prevent that terrible day in which all the decisions will have already been made for us. That effort really consists of two separate aspects: a campaign to destroy the locus of militant Islam and prevent their acquisition of WMDs; and an attempt to awaken the world to the urgency of the threat.”
