  1. Ouch! I remember when it was on the BBC World Service Top 20.
Of course, during that time, Thatcherism was at its peak. Coincidence?

  2. If ever you can find it, would love to hear the Male Bonding Song by Bill Gallaher. Almost drove off the road when it was played on CBC back in the day.

  3. Thanks Kate! One of my favorite tunes! While we’re on the topic of British charts, after a day of chaos in the news, we do need to look on the bight side of life. Some of you staunch Christians may be offended by the scene that accompanied this song that came from the Monty Python Movie ”Life of Brian.” The bottom link is the ”music hall” version.

  5. An excerpt from “The tribal war with Islam”, Sultan Kinish explains why the West continues to lose the war.
“…At the ground floor, Islam is tribal. The Iraqis viewed us as the American Tribe. Tribes raid each other. Their members lash out and kill each other over insults. They count coup on each other. They steal and humiliate each other’s women. Tribes are nomadic and they are concerned with honor.
Tribes from Iraq, Syria and North Africa can come to Europe, set up their own territories, pile up loot and then humiliate the native women for New Year’s Eve. And then laugh at the impotence of the European tribal authorities.
The Islamic no-go zones are seen primarily as religious, but they are also tribal. Islam incorporates both. Islamic migration also expands tribal territories. It’s always been that way.
And this is also how Muslims fight us on a tribal level. They attack the honor of the European tribes. But it’s not as if the Merkel government or any of the other European Socialist governments have any concept of honor anyway…

  6. The CBC reported this morning that the PM wanted to be with the Premiers to get a picture taken at this conference but the Premiers wanted to talk about climate change and health care and the PM wasn’t willing to talk about that. Sooooo, no picture.
I suspect that JT’s handlers realized that the Dauphin would be out of his depth in meetings with all the premiers, especially since most are unified against him on a few key issues like carbon tax / climate change and health care funding.

  7. The government of Peru has declared a state of emergency in the southern Andes after brutally low temperatures killed tens of thousands of alpacas, according to The Associated Press.
In early July, Reuters reported crops were ruined and animals were dying of cold and hunger as snowstorms moved through the mountains. This week, the temperature has dipped as low as -4 degrees Fahrenheit, the AP reports. July is the coldest month of the year in the southern Andes, with an average July temperature over the last 15 years around 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
This is not the first cold crisis the region has suffered in recent years. In 2013, the Peruvian government declared a state of emergency after record cold and snowfall killed thousands of livestock, the BBC reported.

  8. The jihadists are targeting specifically our children now, the few that we have. Luring young people through Facebook offers of free meals is fiendish. Other businesses must be beware.

  10. Reporting the ongoing terrorist romp around the world has become generic. Terms like “mentally ill”, “lone wolf” and the worst of all is “radicalized”, as if that isn’t by choice.

  12. My oldest brother and I were both huge Monte Python fans. He was a strong Catholic and defied the church by taking me to see “Life of Brian”. It is an exceptionally funny movie with lots of great jabs at organized religion.
“No, cast aside the shoe and follow the gourd!!
There are countless lines any MP fan would recognize from the movie.
    “Are there any women here?”
Anyways Jesus Weeps, if your effort was to supply a little levity amidst this madness, well done.

  13. There was more than one guy. Initial reports (more than one) indicated that there were three. I think they are really downplaying this. What exactly is an “apparent link” — does ISIS issue membership cards? ISIS has already taken credit — so there is your link. The guy was clearly influenced by ISIS thinking. They are encouraging this kind of garbage — but beyond that, I am pretty sure they are downplaying that there was more than one person involved.

  14. The Philippines is reviewing its “crazy” commitment to severely cut greenhouse-gas emissions in the Paris climate deal, new President Rodrigo Duterte has warned.
The government of predecessor Benigno Aquino had pledged to the United Nations to cut the Asian country’s emissions by 70 percent by 2030 from 2000 levels if it got support from developed nations to convert to clean technologies.
“I have misgivings about this Paris (climate deal)…. The problem is these industrialised countries have reached their destination,” Duterte said in a series of speeches during a visit to the southern island of Mindanao on Friday.
The international deal aimed at curbing emissions was signed in Paris in December last year, but only 19 countries including France and island-states threatened by rising sea levels have so far ratified the agreement.
It cannot become effective until 55 countries accounting for 55 percent of global greenhouse-gas emissions have fully approved it
“There is no treaty to honour. We have not signed the treaty,” Duterte said, according to transcripts of his comments released by the presidential palace Saturday.

Unfortunately the Dauphin of New France, Trudeau-II, is not that smart.

  15. Watched a video taken at the memorial site of the Munich massacre. A father of a beautiful adolescent boy who was killed while drinking a soft drink outside with a friend, laid flowers and showed a large photo of his son.
“I am living a nightmare”, he said.

  16. Hillary’s convention could have a few stink bombs. It’s been reported Bernie supporters are planning a fart-in during Hillary’s speech at the convention. They plan to fill their bellies with beans for the ammunition. Wonder how many stinkers will escape before they are thrown out? It should be a real gas if it happens.
