Natives on Vancouver Island made masks for their kids in the old days when the cougars were more numerous. There were eyes painted on them and they were worn at the back of the head. It must have had some effect. Game wardens instruct people to face a cougar and put your arms up to appear larger whild you back up.

The minute the kid turns his back on the lion he becomes a potential meal.
