The Lewis and Clark Humane Society is taking part in an international effort to rescue dogs from South Korea.
Nine Korean dogs are currently at the Humane Society and will be made available for adoption into Montana homes.
If you support a dog trafficing “humane society” with your donations — stop.

Mercy, think of the starving children!!
This is ridiculous, and a good example of misplaced intentions. My heart breaks for those dogs in South Korea, but 500,000 dollars to save 20? That’s 25 thousand dollars a dog for Christ’s sake. If word of this gets out in South Korea, it will become the world capital on selling (saved) dogs to western fools. In order to have an impact it would take hundreds of millions of dollars, a year, and cost more every year, as people got filthy rich in S Korea in this newly created business. The foolishness is breathtaking, and, does not address, the actual problem that this despicable practice persists. It would be far better, and infinitely more effective, to spend all that money on educating the people of the West about this vile culture that continues in parts of South Korea, and not buy anything, from this country until the government seriously eradicates it. When the huge businesses start to feel the sting in their pocketbooks, you can be assured the elected governments would move fast on ending the horrible practice. That’s how you save South Korean dogs.
I bet Korean dogs are tasty.
To be fair, the video version says $5K. But yes, much more than they’d bring for meat!
$500,000 to buy 20 dogs from a farmer who intended to sell the dogs for meat. Sounds like a scam from day one. Does anyone want to give me $ 1 million for the 100 fat meat dogs I was planning to ship to Korea?
As repellent as this limited business is (it is limited though I have seen dogs for sale – it’s awful), refusing to buy stuff from South Korea while buying stuff from China is morally dissonant and probably not going to work. Education is a better way to go.
Besides, that money could have been used to smuggle out North Koreans who are in grave danger.
Kate, you have typo. Should be “trafficking,” not “trafficing.” If there’s a special Canadian spelling of that word, please accept my apology.
Let me guess … this was funded by the Clinton Foundation ?
If you have ever met these people, be very aware, they are……….focused, shall I say. About the nicest thing I could say.
They’re trying to save the world, don’t ya know, like those environutters. There are no discussions with them, they are not wrong in anything.
How many stray dogs are destroyed in North America every year, but somehow, a Korean crossbreed stray is more valuable than those already here? Gimme a break. Do those dogs excrete ice cream or something?
Make all the jokes you want about how Koreans eat dog meat. It is not a joking matter.
At least in Korea, a dog destined for the pot comes to a particularly cruel end. Korean tradition has it that dog meat has “medicinal” value, and that those qualities are greatly enhanced by subjecting the animal to death by slow strangulation and battery.
You are correct.
Unfortunately there is all sorts of human and animal suffering around the world, however these silly misguided do-gooders with their misplaced intentions are simply wasting resources to make themselves feel good. They could save more dogs per dollar spent if they focused their efforts closer to home and rescued dogs from the far north of Canada and Alaska.
Of course human and animal suffering is not a joking matter. However if someone wants to focus their life on the horrible things that humans do to each other and animals then they will likely become a very miserable person, and what’s the point in that?
You want to rescue a dog – head to the nearest rez. Lots of ’em.
I certainly agree with that. Buying animals to “save” them from the abattoir is rarely successful as a strategy.
The Cultural divide is apparent.
How would most North Americans respond to being told ; That eating Rabbits,Lamb,Pig and beef is a cruel cultural custom?
Imagine some wealthy Asian Airheads buying up whole herds to save them from being eaten.
Korean’s eat Dog.
Apparently cat is pretty tasty too.
Met an ancient immigrant/refugee from Vietnam , he loves Canada.
“This country is so good, the food it comes to you.”
With a kitchen window sill crowded with cat and dog collars.
However it is a dog eat dog world as any who have lived in wolf country know.
The do-gooders are robbing the food out of the mouths of starving Koreans, sanctimonious wankers one and all.
Me I am keeping a close eye on my local Vegans, especially the planet saving ones.
As a side note the Maori highly recommend a small thistle type plant to garnish your pakeha.
Puha & Pakeha.
For when the dogs run out.
Quite true. Asians have been eating dogs for millennia, and regardless of how abhorrent our culture might consider that custom, dogs in Asia are nowhere close to becoming an endangered species.
If you like hot dogs, and you knew what went into wieners or frankfurters, trust me when I tell you that dog is not all that bad. My nephew taught school in Korea, it’s sold by the carload!!
(I don’t like the practice, but I have no right to try and stop it!)
Bone appétit!!

Korean dogs, American dogs, dogs form reserves, Vietnamese cats, you are all missing the bog picture. If Africa had enough mosquito nets we could save MILLIONS of mosquitoes from needlessly dieing from AIDS.
Yes I know i am going to hell.
“…Buying animals to “save” them from the abattoir is rarely successful as a strategy.”
But getting someone to pay fantastically inflated prices for abattoir-bound animals to rescue them, now that’s a strategy.
PS: Should we stop eating pork because Arnold Ziffle of Green Acres TV fame was loved by all the kids of my generation??
The show was cancelled in 1971 after 6 seasons, in spite of high ratings. Why? Because the CBS network was under pressure by sponsors to boost their urban numbers. The major networks cancelled most rural based stories (including Lassie) and that move became known as the ”rural purge.”
Outsourcing puppy mills, excellent idea. Sarc
@TheTooner:
It’s no dumber than this piece of stupidity.
