With delivery trucks under constant attack, the nation’s food is now transported under armed guard. Soldiers stand watch over bakeries. The police fire rubber bullets at desperate mobs storming grocery stores, pharmacies and butcher shops. A 4-year-old girl was shot to death as street gangs fought over food.
Venezuela is convulsing from hunger.
Don’t worry, our socialism is different.
h/t Maz2

Only one mention of socialism in the whole piece. Is the Grope & Flail so under-staffed they can only reprint columns from the New York Times now?
Bernie? Care to comment? Michael Moore? Sean Penn? Susan Sarandon? The black guy from Lethal Weapon whose name escapes me?
Not only is “our” socialism different, it’ll *succeed*! Next item, NORAD is tracking a squadron of airborne swine….
Our socialism is at a different stage, in that way it is “different”, but if Canadians keep electing people like Justimbecile Trudeau, in a few years our socialism will cause the same problems as in Venezuela.
But Senor Chavez had such nice hair!
How could they not vote for him?
It’s one thing to “run out of other people’s money” … it’s quite another to run out of other people’s food. Socialism FAIL … as always, regardless of whose brand of Socialism it is …
Dodgers’ broadcaster Vin Scully during Friday night’s Dodgers-Brewers game.
Steve E, I was watching that game and heard him call that.
I actually clicked on this story to post that and low and behold, you beat me to it!
Gotta love Vin.
CTV News net had a segment with an associated press reporter:
It was about food shortages, the chaos, the violence, the lineups….
Then the CTV anchor asked this question which I immediately thought “this should be interesting”:
“Why is Venezuela experiencing this?”
The reporter never mentioned Chavez/Socialism/Decreed food pricing etc…Instead she danced around it, “This is nor the first time….
Basically, there was no specific answer given.
The most stupid (Flagrant Left wing ideology protection) journalism I have seen in a while (A day or two)
MacLeans wants to know why Canada is doing nothing about this crisis and does not care about the people. A native Venezuelan talked about the ‘crooked’ government they ousted to put Chavez in and now cannot get rid of that gang. The idea of accepting responsibility does not get discussed.
Famous last words – couldn’t happen here.
These stupid people deserve what they got for moving from small towns and villages where they could feed themselves into the big cities where they can’t. Stupid is what stupid does.
Too bad the people of Venezuela aren’t muslims. They would all be living here by now.
Yep … not even the Socialist Pope’s people are worthy of REFUGEE status.
Living in the same socialists utopia Obama the Fink and Bad Bad Bernie want for us
‘let them eat cake’. the lesson will NOT be learned; in fact it will lead somewhere on the globe for yet another ‘adjustment’ and ‘fine tuning’ of the ideology. stuck on ideology. new democraps are the utter worst for that. hint: see ‘bob rae ontariariario and the famous rachel knothead.
stuck on ideology. defy gravity while you’re at it and after that throw all common sense out the 20th story window.
sign of the times.
All of the above. Venezuelans as a people are getting what they voted for as are Ontario people and now the Albertans.
It is just mind boggling that the people keep believing that this communist garbage will work and refuse to see the pain that it brings. I guess everyone wants to believe that there is a free lunch just around the corner.
Venezuelans as a people are getting what they voted for
Exactly. The more that die means fewer socialist sympathizers at the next election.
Venezuela is following the pattern predicted many years ago, and thus finding the ultimate cure for stupidity.
A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.
Great nations rise and fall. The people go from bondage to spiritual truth, to great courage, from courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance, from abundance to selfishness, from selfishness to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again to bondage.

I don’t think that most voters even concern themselves about how that free lunch comes about. Maybe they think it magically appears out of thin air and that it’ll always be there on demand.
Part of the reason is that they don’t want to inform themselves. For example, one chap I spoke to in the gym a few weeks ago told me that he doesn’t watch the news because it’s “too depressing”.
With an attitude like that, we’ll be doomed to see our society vanish due to socialism.
Most people only watch the propaganda that validates their preconceived notions.
