Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

given enough time, the world economy can go in 2 directions:
EVERYTHING owned by an incompetent gubbamint, or, EVERYTHING owned by an extremely tiny 0.001 % of the population. or perhaps a 3rd option whereby any particular part of the world is described by 1 of these 2 scenarios depending on geography.
which is better? there’s very little difference really, either we ALL depend on the monolithic gubbamint (see ‘Communism’) or we’re all sharecroppers, (see ‘the end result of unfettered capitalism’). feel free to take yer pick.
Yet another reminder of how things are there:

We should keep in mind that this is also a preview of Canada’s future if we continue with Red Rachel’s Wynning Justin-time ways of spending.
It’s gotten so bad they are going to have to resort to capitalism and free markets to drag themselves out of this mess.
You know, grow and produce things and sell them to each other?
Oh the shame of it all…..
E,
In socialism, you get socialism if it kills you.
Yeah, Alberta just got on their journey into abyss.
If you think it can’t happen here, just watch Notley.
She got socialists from across this county to tell her how to screw into nothingness the free enterprise.
How to limit freedom out of existence. That will be so smooth the locals will go along like good, polite, docile sheep. They will never notice, little bit by little bit while the masses dream of all the free stuff they will never get.
Yeah there are enough socialists reading and commenting on this blog to see how far the ideology progressed in the mainstream.
Yeah, it will be interesting to watch how they will endlessly deny reality. Everything is fine, they will say, it’s fault of those others.
We’ve seen it with Joe Ceci’s claims that the financial rating agencies got it all wrong about Alberta. Meanwhile, it seems that each time that idiot opens his yap, our credit rating goes down again.
Then there was Red Rachel’s trip to the U. S. around the time the Fort Mac fires started. Her purpose was to present her lipstick-on-a-pig environmental “policy” as being as gorgeous as a Victoria’s Secret model. I don’t think she convinced anyone except, maybe, President Lame Duck’s buddies.
Amazing what people will put up with without striking out to actually change conditions. The progressive will to point fingers at everyone or everything other than their own actions never flags. It just shows how far we have to fall before anything substantial happens in Canada.
soixantchose. My vote’s for capitalism over socialism any day. I don’t care who owns what, as long as they legitimately earn what they have. I believe what you’re referring to is “crony” capitalism, when big government and big business collude to dominate and crush the free will of people. Crony capitalism is just about as bad as socialism. In both cases, you have a ruling class, and an enslaved population.
“Crony capitalism” is just a new word for fascism. It is showing its face, big time, in the “green energy” fraud, among others.
If ever a country required violent regime change to save its people from their own government, Venezuela does. The Monroe Doctrine and common decency demands the Marines go down there and settle Maduro’s hash tomorrow morning.
The bandits that pass for Venezuela’s armed forces clearly have no intention of removing Maduro themselves while they retain first dibs on whatever little food is left in the country—and anybody who thinks Maduro will leave office in anything but a coffin is deluding himself.
But please, let’s hear the Grey Lady explain again why Assad must go, the fate of his people be damned. If an Islamic insurgency was waiting to take power when Maduro finally went, even money says Caracas would have been “liberated” already.
Amazing, isn’t it, how the New York Times can document the downfall of Socialism, and never really blame Socialism?
You’ve got it Joey.
It’s just no good when people call it anything else, but.
Fascism is just a different spelling of socialism. It’s always a matter of which band of robbers and their cronies have control of the state, and how afraid of the mob they are.
Ceci is a social worker or some such.
About economics he know “dick” as they some time say.
He and the whole government hired people from far and wide that know “dick” about economy though they are “experts”, as the “journalists” like to say, on how to suck money out of those that get up in the morning and go to work every day to make a living.
It would be really good if somebody, anybody could get a reply from the Progressives and Wild Rose to the question if they are going to cancel the destruction of coal generated electric power.
I did. No answer.
That is nor really a surprise, they are politicialists (TM).
There may be a revolution in a distant future, though that is questionable.
Yes, Ceci is a social worker, which means he should know how to deal with people who have addictions. Unfortunately, that doesn’t extend to his political colleagues, who just happen to be addicted to spending money Alberta doesn’t have.
It’s ironic that, back when the environmental movement started in the late 1960s, the left was quick to adopt the idea that we have a limited amount of resources. Consequently, those resources should be used sparingly but efficiently. Somehow, that logic stops when it comes to money, preferably that of other people.
As for the PCs doing anything to fix the damage inflicted by Red Rachel, I’m not optimistic. It seems that the party wants to live up the the “P” but no longer the “C”. I wish that party would finally go away.
The Wild Rose, however, seems to be pre-occupied right now with punishing anyone who “insults” Ontariowe’s commissar. Red Rachel must be rubbing her hand with glee.
That is correct. I always like to shove this down the throats of leftists who beak off the the Nazis were right wing…..this sounds more like Bernie Sanders than anybody.
Hitler was named “Man of the Year” in 1938 by Time Magazine. They noted Hitler’s anti-capitalistic economic policies:
“Most cruel joke of all, however, has been played by Hitler & Co. on those German capitalists and small businessmen who once backed National Socialism as a means of saving Germany’s bourgeois economic structure from radicalism. The Nazi credo that the individual belongs to the state also applies to business. Some businesses have been confiscated outright, on other what amounts to a capital tax has been levied. Profits have been strictly controlled. Some idea of the increasing Governmental control and interference in business could be deduced from the fact that 80% of all building and 50% of all industrial orders in Germany originated last year with the Government. Hard-pressed for food- stuffs as well as funds, the Nazi regime has taken over large estates and in many instances collectivized agriculture, a procedure fundamentally similar to Russian Communism.”

@gordinkneehill: Elephant? There’s no elephant in this room.
But seriously, your comment is right on the nose. Not one word about the great socialist revolution in Venezuela. And of course it’s Maduro’s fault, not the system. Chavez was a hero doncha know. it’s a characteristic of the left to never see the hypocrisy of their position.
Even in bad times good [:)] people prosper – one of Hugo Chavez’s daughters reportedly is a multi billionaire and among the world’s richest women … sweet!!
The Hall of Shame. All the usual suspects are called out. Good review.
Top 10 Clueless Celebrity Statements about Hugo Chávez’s “Revolution”
Crony capitalism is in fact a phenomenon quite distinct from fascism. You don’t need one to have the other, or vice versa. Your real serious crony capitalists flourish in aristocratic states or monarchies much more than under fascism. The rise of crony capitalism in the US is much more the sign of an entrenching aristocracy than of a fascist reaction against it.
Troll, capitalism has always provided FAR better opportunities for ALL citizens, unlike repressive socialism/communism.
Back to your bridge 60 thing
I have a nice hoodie which states…FREEDOM IS NOT FREE…Think about it. We are so spoiled here in Canuckistan, that we(some) just lay down and let socialism/fascism take us over.
The problem in Venezuela is that people have no guns. That is a feature of socialist countries.
One thing all slaves have in common … They don’t own guns.
Fortunately Albertans do. So do Americans… That is why it won’t work here…
* Communists are just socialists who really mean it, and this is where it leads.
* Nothing beats a famine to get privileged North American SJWs to quit screaming about ‘micro-aggressions’, ‘safe spaces’, ‘the war on women’ and their other staple rants.
* In the photos and videos I don’t see a single obese person.
Get some Sharia in there, that’ll fix it and fast.
Everyone who is smarter than you carry’s one! Have you ever tried to sleep at night in Caracas? Jaysus, you farkin kids!
The perfect storm: socialism, corruption, over reliance on oil income, climate change(ok,ok, I know you won’t agree on CG)
freedom is such a difficult word these days, even Canadians don’t know what the hell it means. it does not mean any form of socialism or communism.
Right to the bitter end,the parasites will be hollering at their victims;”Look what you made me do”.
There will never be accountability amongst the fools and bandits of our kleptocratic comrades.
Always.. it would have been perfect except for you peons failing to appreciate my majesty.
If you producers had just worked harder, given up all your time and energy, the glorious socialist republic would have worked..this time.
Every tiny social group needs a tax on do-gooders.
Set at at least 100% 0f their gross income.
Note that the NYT blames the troubles in Venezuela on everything but the truth they cannot speak: Socialism.
“all the free stuff they will never get”
see, socialism took effect after the industrial revolution when immense production increases due to automation and technology *created* the free stuff to take.
economic efficiency and competition has stripped bare the surplus production down to only that necessary, ie maximize return on investment. the prices where that ‘sweet spot’ lays isn’t always to the liking of the free renters.
in other words, the golden age of socialism is past, past, past. any further ‘kicks at the can’ will, WILL fail for the above reasons. but the free renters don’t want to believe that and will continue to put in office those who promise the free stuff.
the days of Notley types are numbered. good bad or indifferent it is what looms.
Venezuela’s opposition is no better. The opposition leader is a card carrying communist waiting for his turn. It’s not the policies he disagrees with. Its Maduro.
not trolling. my compare/contrast posting resulted in some excellent feedback. and the something thing kept getting snagged by the filter. I still have no inkling what the algorithm seeks.
contribute something and go find out.
Well said Lev, especially with the following, “How to limit freedom out of existence. That will be so smooth the locals will go along like good, polite, docile sheep. They will never notice, little bit by little bit while the masses dream of all the free stuff they will never get.” Even our so-called Conservative government did precious little to reverse this tightening noose.
It does appear that it is too late for Canadians to realize what is happening here, while many Americans seem to be waking up. Old white guy is right.
