  1. So here’s my question… if Ft. McMurray is such a desolate ‘Hiroshima like’ wasteland… as Neel Young sez… where did the trees come from to support a forest fire?
    Just askin’.

  2. Now he tells us. At least he recognizes the problem now.
UK Equalities Chief Who Popularised The Term ‘Islamophobia’ Admits: ‘I Thought Muslims Would Blend into Britain… I Should Have Known Better
And indeed he lays the blame at the feet of the liberal, metropolitan elite, media classes: “Oddly, the biggest obstacles we now face in addressing the growth of this nation-within-a-nation are not created by British Muslims themselves. Many of our (distinctly un-diverse) elite political and media classes simply refuse to acknowledge the truth. Any undesirable behaviours are attributed to poverty and alienation. Backing for violent extremism must be the fault of the Americans. Oppression of women is a cultural trait that will fade with time, nothing to do with the true face of Islam.”
“Even when confronted with the growing pile of evidence to the contrary, and the angst of the liberal minority of British Muslims, clever, important people still cling to the patronising certainty that British Muslims will, over time, come to see that “our” ways are better.”

  3. I’ve been thinking about two things lately:
    1. Remember the riots in Vancouver several years ago, when a rich, spoiled polo player tried to start a police car on fire? I wonder what happened to him and with ALL the video’s that were turned into the police who said they will prosecute the rioters to the full extent of the law? Well nothing has happened. So much for police keeping their word. Has there ever been a charge against rioters?
    2. Remember the “young offender” in Edmonton who was “escorted” from his cell, and after a brief struggle, “tripped and fell” down an elevator shaft. For some reason the surveillance camera was not working during the incident. What ever happened to the two “guards?”
    Just wondering.

  4. Ah, the memories…..
I first heard that song on Voice of America. I was in Grade 11 at the time, if I recall correctly, and I was an active shortwave listener back then. The VOA always had a good signal into western Canada even though I doubt that it was one of its target areas.
In those days, I would use the console stereo that my parents had as it could tune the SW broadcast bands. Often, I’d talk to my classmates about the various stations I heard, though many of them thought I was a weirdo for doing that.
It certainly didn’t do me any harm. I continued with it off and on for many years and got quite an education listening to what other countries said about themselves. I heard things that never appeared in the news that I had access to here in Canada. I had a lot of fun doing that.
One thing led to another and, because of that, I eventually became an amateur radio operator.

  5. Re: It Never Rains In Southern California.
That song became a hit in 1972. In Saskatchewan, they had lowered the drinking age to 18, so it was a big deal to go to the bar and play songs on the jukebox, such as this one by Scott McKenzie and countless others. In 1976, they raised the drinking age back up to 19. The reason given was that too many kids were doing their homework in the bar, and skipping school. 1972 was also the beginning of the end for high compression engines that required leaded gas. They began adding pollution equipment and lowering compression ratios to try and clean up the exhaust. The end result was way lower gas mileage and no performance. It would take several years and fuel injection to solve the problems. I fooled them by going to a heavy duty F-100 Ford truck with a 390 V-8. Trucks had little or no pollution control in Canada, but the gas mileage was not great.
This was one of my favorites in 1972.

  6. I sure remember that Donna Fargo song from my high school days. I probably heard that one on VOA as well because it often played stuff that was on the charts.
Wasn’t the one by Scott McKenzie was on the charts during Centennial year? I hadn’t started junior high school when that was on the radio.
A bit later, though, go to any party, dance, or wedding reception, and chances are one would hear this gem:

Hearing the refrain from that song got on my nerves after a while.
Speaking of drinking age, I recall that it was 19 in B. C. when I finished Grade 12 in the early 1970s. I started university at a transfer college in Alberta and many of the students were from B. C. Lots of them were quite pleased that they could go to the bar once they turned 18.

  7. I always liked that song because of the plausible nature of its siren song story; the California dream as opposed to the reality that 99.99% found after living there for a time.

  8. Maybe It Never Rains In Southern California however since that tune was released almost half of Earth’s vegetated lands have shown significant greening largely due to rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, according to recent studies. While carbon dioxide fertilization isn’t the only cause of increased plant growth–nitrogen, land cover change and global temperature, precipitation and sunlight changes all contribute, carbon dioxide fertilization explains 70 percent of the greening effect.

  9. Hear this: George Clooney says there will not be a President Trump. Guess he and the Hollywood gang think they have the power to make a difference, those who work in in the realm of reality may have something to say on that.

  10. What would we do without Hollywood pundits? While Clooney says there will not be a President Trump, Johnny Depp is convinced that Trump, were he elected, would be the LAST president. Apparently, the presidency wouldn’t work after that which somehow has Depp excited. He doesn’t explain why or what would replace the presidency but then again these Hollywood idiots are rarely held to account or asked to explain themselves.

  11. So if Sophie Trudeau is given more help than she already has we’ll see more of her? Puleese spare us, she might have more time to write and sing more of her songs.

  12. Really, I don’t think they want her out there except for occasional photo ops. Likely she is not considered an “asset” to the Liberal party. In my view, that’s a good thing.

  13. Well, poor Sophie has so many requests she can’t possibly do it all, being the Prime Minister’s wife and the mother of three young kids she just needs more help. God help the taxpayers at the same time!

  14. Perhaps Princess Sophie should consult with Buckingham Palace for some advice on the number of staff that is acceptable, given her exalted position.

“CEI Defeats RICO-20 Ringleader In FOIA Lawsuit
George Mason University Must Release Documents Calling for Prosecution of Political Opponents
The Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI) prevailed in a Virginia Freedom of Information Act (VFOIA) lawsuit against George Mason University (GMU). The VFOIA request sought public records showing how the “RICO-20” group of academics, using public funding, organized their call for a federal racketeering investigation of “corporations and other entities” who disagreed with them on climate policy.
The judge ruled for CEI on all counts in an April 22 ruling in Christopher Horner and CEI v. George Mason University that the court released today.”

  16. Re: CO2 levels rising.
Maybe in the future, we humans will live off CO2 instead of oxygen.
”Are you down Johnny?? Just breathe in the emissions from the local coal fired power plant and you’ll feel much better!”

  17. Re: Scott McKenzie
Yes–it was a 60’s song, however if you remember the jukeboxes in rural Saskatchewan, the 45s were not always up to date!!

  18. The jukeboxes weren’t much better in some of the remote corners of B. C.
