Winnipeg Free Press has latest polls: The Forum Research Poll for the Free Press predicts the Tories will capture as many as 43 of the province’s 57 seats, with 11 seats for the NDP and three for the Liberals.

  12. Certainly looks like change. Long term you need good governance to keep them out . I don’t know the new leader but some of the optics so far are suspect. I don’t know if it’s mud or earned. However he will need to change that.

  13. I sure wish this was happening in Alberta right now. The Notley NDP is making an absolute mess of Alberta and in record time. NDP hack, Joe Ceci had to use thousands of words and billions of taxpayer dollars to put forward a “job creation” budget for Alberta when it could be done with only TWO words and $20 million. The two words are “we resign” and the $20 million would be for the election. That would do more to stimulate the Alberta economy than anything the Bolsheviks could come up with.

  17. Manitoba has been owned by the Indians,aka First Nations for about forty years now,so there isn’t much any government can do to turn the economy around.
    Might be a good idea to enact a huge increase in welfare rates then build casinos on every available vacant lot to take it all back. Everyone would be happy.
    It would be another forty years before anyone notices things aren’t improving.

  18. Proportional representation anyone? Almost a guarantee that both the AB Dippers and the Ottawa Liebels will institute it before they are done.
    Conservatives will be dealing from weakness on this issue and will likely lose. It will cement a progressive course for generations.

    I just read an article a few days back stating that by 2050 Canada will be 50% Muslim,and though I hesitate to say anything negative about that trendy group, they aren’t exactly the last word in progressiveness.

  21. I advanced voted and they required an ID like a drivers license. I am pretty sure the same will apply because the province was manually enumerated and they are using this election to build an electronic voter list. My info was written in wrong, my address wqas wrong, they had one house over.

  24. What should be done is raise the voting age to 30, and institute a knowledge test. LIVs will consider it to be too much hassle, and won’t bother. Voters who care make better decisions.

    NDP would never form government again in Alberta if they abandon FPTP.

  30. Pallister now has the opportunity to keep the NDP on the outside looking in for a long, long time. All he has to do is govern responsibly and not make any spectacular gaffes. Let me correct that … not make any gaffes period! The media will be all over any PC mistakes and will throw dirt at every chance in the hopes that some will stick. Pallister would be wise to look to his neighbour to the west to pick up some pointers on how to continue the beatdown that the socialists suffered tonight. It is indeed a good day for Manitobans.

  31. Maybe TROC (six provinces west of QC) will notice the LPC is “the NDP,” if not left of Mulcair’s Dippers. Attendant disasters abound. How ON endured this, then gobsmacked the nation by foisting the federal Grit version on us still amazes my limit of belief in domestic voters’ collective stupidity.
    Now these progs get to suspend belief with their Bernieisms about capitalism causing the widening gap between rich and poor, when it’s obvious to anyone in the real world that is caused, as evidenced worldwide throughout history, by statism and it’s attendant push of working poor into poverty.
    It’s a good game eh, cause the problem, blame it on the other guy. Sure works for Justin and Barack. Hillary plans to play that meme game too.
    Trump will help folks remember it’s career politicians, enriched at their expense, who are to blame for economic woes with hopeless economic interventions, plus job and growth killing policies around taxation, regulation and green rent. Misplacing existential concern for the latter instead of real threats will only increase voter bewilderment, especially in the event of terrorist attacks and/or economic slowdown, some of it state induced.
    The frustration is there for Trump to aim a spotlight on the poseurs. It was the same here last election but our unethical mediocracy, not even bothering to hide their bias, stole the spotlight to turn it on the Duffy trial rather than from a now confirmed concern for runaway deficits, now “reduced” to allow for better optics on future overspending.
    Then again I see an ad from something called Comrade Power ON or whatever, shrieking about ON getting off coal; no comment on the $billions they spent to not get off coal. They didn’t make much mention of the logarithmic increases in energy costs or carbon taxes. When these apparatchiks say “we” did it, they sure as frig don’t mean the poor were their partners.
    No, they just get to pay for it at greatly disproportionate damage to their already tax depleted & paltry funds. Oh, but the middle class must give itself a tax raise. We have become a selfish society. Progressives tell them they can have the easy way out, just pay off Guido of government in the dark corner, then everything will be hunky dory.
    Then reality happens and a guy like Trump gets wind for his sails, while Harper got caught up in the undertow of ludicrous ABH, and we had a no-issues election for cabin boy to now whim his way through office.

    It’s a shell game. Conservatives did not win. Tories did not win. Progressives won.

    No doubt this will breathe new hope into the Progressive cause in Alberta.
    I will likely get an e-mail from Ric Ives crowing about how their sister franchise in Manitoba has won the election and he will claim they will do the same in Alberta, despite Alberta WildRose being the official opposition 2 elections in a row still increasing our seat count after being backstabbed by defections to the Progressives.
    Either the people who vote for the Alberta Progressive party, thinking they are voting for conservative, wake up or the NDP here in Alberta will get another term in government until they do
    Those of us who are Alberta Conservatives vote WildRose, we are not going back on the Progressive reservation again to have our conservative principles subsumed by socialists by again voting for Progressivess pretending to be conservatives.

Buckley’s aphorism about voting for the most conservative yet electable candidate was taken to heart by enough sensible Manitobans that they can look forward to much better government than they’ve have in a generation. Those who have memories can call to mind Sterling Lyon, the last real Conservative who was Premier. But Manitobans and Canadians are not made of stern enough stuff to have leaders who tell them the truth and govern in a manner designed to maximize liberty and prosperity.

  41. Alison Redford was not a one-off. She was preceded by Red Ed Stelmach and followed by Jim Prentice.
    Both of them were 2nd vote run off winners elected by a party entirely dominated by Progressives and Left wing policy.
    It is past time the PC party ceased to exist as a group of people which are fallaciously referred to as “Tory” or “Conservative” when the truth is that they are neither and never were either.

  42. Looking at the Northern riding’s I’m absolutely amazed 4 of the 5 incumbents got defeated. Considering those are usually NDP locks like the two Saskatchewan northern riding’s.

He won’t change a single thing, just collect envelopes of cash like everyone else. Only change for him would be emptying the envelopes instead of stuffing them.
