    All you can say is that you’re surprised that politicians have gotten so bold about it and no longer give a shit about how bad it looks. Fancy dinner parties paid by taxpayers and flattery are cheap.
    Now that Ontario and Quebec leaders have decided on cap and trade, the real fun begins for the politicians. I’d imagine the $6000 is just to get into the club. To talk privately to the leader and energy minister must cost a bit more. Those businesses that want to get exemptions and free CO2 emission permits will have to pay more dearly (the bad guys) than those who want subsidies for renewable energy (the good guys). I wonder if anyone still uses brown paper bags in the age of Bitcoin?

They would not accept the donation from my business. I made a donation from my personal account. It is totally lost on The Harper haters that they were funded by real normal people by many small donors. I guess that’s what you do when you are a dictatating demi – God. Or maybe not. Maybe we just have a lot of intolerant divisive haters. Any possibility that it could be support from hardworking people who love this country and are willing to back it with their own money ?

16. It appears to me Coyne is on the spectrum somewhere between apolitical and a dues paying Liberal. He tries to pass himself off as a conservative so he can get the paid role of Conservative pundit on CBC. Playing the part of the CBC’s faux conservative gives him a small amount of money but enough street cred that he can earn a living passing himself off as a pundit, journalist and he may even be a paid a a contributor for Macleans.(I can’t say because part of my mental hygiene regimen is to avoid putting garbage into my head.) He is a very intelligent man who understands politics but plays the game purely for his own gain; not for principles. I would LOVE to hear Rex Murphy’s unfettered view of Coyne.

21. I understand that many conservatives respect for journalists as a group is equivalent to ambulance chasing lawyers and used car salesmen but they’re not all awful all of the time. At least Coyne bothered to write a column on it. The rest of the journalists merely tut-tutted, retweeted each other and will not pursue this any further. Credit where credit is due.
    Besides, Coyne is more of an internationalist than Liberal or liberal. I’ve also noticed that despite how many times big government disappoints him and flaunts its corruption, he still prefers strengthening centralized government instead of local government (who are more responsive to the voters). I suppose that makes sense since he thinks, and frequently says, people are stupid. More of a Bloomberg “nudge and tax” for their own good type. Big into making things mandatory like voting and long form census (no matter how long and personal it gets). Except for helmets laws, oddly – the only time he seems to have a libertarian impulse.

25. Great comparison! But I think the Greeks are ahead in the food department (everything from souvlaki to moussaka). And having some really bright people as part of their history (Plato, Aristotle, etc.). Ontario didn’t even dream up poutine (that was Quebec) and one would have to go back to Sir John A. to find someone from Ontario who accomplished anything in terms of nation building.

37. I think Coyne is best described as a disgruntled or self-hating Liberal. I don’t think he sees eye to eye with the Liberal party leadership at all, and he evidently has wide-ranging views of the merits of the general run of the party’s people and policies, and doesn’t like a lot of them. But he sees himself (I daresay rightly so) as quite literally a born Liberal and no more capable of abandoning the Party than his family or any other essential element of his identity. He isn’t Liberal because they or their policies are good to him. He’s Liberal, and therefore puts up with them and their policies.
