I like red and black best, and I think most people do. So, it pleases me those two colors are so patently favored by the evil wrongdoers controlling Big Candy.

I brings to mind an incident I experienced in the late 80’s when I was working as an automotive salesman. A customer came into my office with his young son. While I was doing the calculations on the price of a vehicle, the boy was eating ”Smarties” (Now M+Ms) and he dropped one on the floor on his way out. The chocolate filled candy broke in two.
This was in the fall, the odd cricket would sometimes make it’s way into the opened shop doors and sometimes into the office and showroom. My office floor was near white asbestos tiles; I looked down only to discover a large cricket trying to eat the inside of the candy. Of course as the cricket tried to chew at the chocolate, the candy slid on the waxed floor surface. Every time the secretary walked by the opened door of my office (delivering faxes etc. to other salesmen,) the cricket would seek refuge behind the door. When all noise and motion had stopped, the cricket would make another attempt at eating the chocolate.
I sat there in silence only to watch the cricket push the candy up against the baseboard, where it was now impossible for its snack to slide on the floor. Once it got it secured, it cleaned one half out. I had to go on a test drive, however when I got back about 45 mins. later, both halves of the candy was cleaned right out, the empty shells were up against the baseboard. .
To this day it baffles me how an insect with a brain the size of a grain of salt could have figured out how to place its candy in solid place and stop it from sliding where it could clean it out!!
That cricket displayed more brains then our whole gubberments, from municipal,to provincial,to definitely the feds.
Out of that very interesting story about the cricket I am the only one who would remark that Smarties are not now M & Ms. Two different products.
Only reason I would be aware of it is that I have recently become addicted to Smarties.
Now I’ll sleep better.

I read once that the young Mars, heir to the chocolate bar manufacturer of the same name, had a falling out with his dad, and instead of joining the family business, took off to Europe in the 60s to find himself. After several years bumming around Europe, doing the hippie thing, he found himself in London, where he discovered Smarties. Maybe it twigged his sense of nostalgia, but whatever, he called his father in the US, they made up, and started a new product together, called M&Ms, for Mars & Mars.
