Red Rose Country

Gov’t of Alberta censors press.
All budding totalitarians know that if you can’t control the press, you can’t control the masses.
Update: The story at The Rebel. And why not throw throw some bucks into the pot so The Rebel can set a precedent that no government in Canada can decide who is or isn’t a journalist. You’re forced to give $35 bucks a year to the CBC, why not match that for The Rebel?
Update: According to the National Post article, the Notley Crue are doubling down. It should be mentioned that Sheila Gunn Reid single-handily destroyed the Alberta NDP over Bill 6.
Update: Faith comes out of the closet.

  1. Everything you need to know about Ms Notley and her motley crew can be summed up in one three hour movie – Dr. Zhivago. Aspirations of totalitarianism. Utter control of all things all the time.

  2. It’s both fascinating and concerning that the troubles of Alberta are almost absent in the press, yet the “Trudeau Promises” remain headline news.

  3. Rebel media will have lots of support in Alberta. They must find a way to embarrassing Notley. Perhaps they can get Wild Rose to complain about this. I suppose it would be too much to think that one of the other MSM would see the danger in this. (Good for Sun!)

  4. The sad thing is that you can’t hurt those Alberta NDP bastards by threatening not to vote for them next time, because they already know nobody’s going to vote for them. Nice relationship to have with the people you’re governing eh?

  5. Man o man. It sure didn’t take Nutley and her commie crew long to show their true colors. However, this is no surprise to sane people. However there may yet be hope. A group of concerned citizens here have been going around to every constituency getting multiple thousands of people to sign a petition to have Nutley removed, presented to the gubermint on March 08. There is a loophole in the legislation(Manning,I believe) that allows the people to gather petitions to have Nutley and her government to step down and new elections held. Yeah. It may cost money, but nothing even remotely close to what the socialists/commies will cost AB after four years!

  6. JT, how do we get ahold of those Concerned Citizens and add some numbers to those troups? This recall of The Nutter is exactly what is needed in a true democracy!

  7. Well it seems a double standard because the idiot that facilitated this Alberta nightmare, through lies and dirty politics, and finally realizing it wasn’t working, switched sides is now a radio journalist! Proving there are no standards other than lies ,sleaze, and anything else to be a urnalist.

  8. correctamundundo. exactly the same thing here in Ontariariario with Bob Rae back in the 90s. I surmised if the voters had known we were in for a new democrap majority, would they still mark that ‘protest’ ballot against Peterson?
suffice to say the hard line ideology expressed by the new democraps at that time pretty much guaranteed they would be out of office for the next 50 years. they had shown their true colours. likewise Notley. they know the gig is up, how much damage can they inflict in the time remaining?

  9. These maniacs will stop at nothing to crush their opposition. There is an outspoken Catholic clergyman (Fr. Stefano Penna) that is against the current regime’s “transgender” school policy.
Due to his opposition to their abusive policies, agents of the regime have been collecting information on his sermons, talks and other correspondence.

  10. glasnost, 60something:
There’s one thing we should keep in mind. The Alberta NDP are hard-core leftists. They know their number will be up when the next election comes and are willingly sacrificing themselves for the glory of the revolution. To such extremist ideologues, there can be no higher calling.
One problem with the N-dippers is that they haven’t grown up and accepted the fact that they’re in the 21st century. I’m sure many of them think they’re still in Russia 100 years ago or in 1930s Spain and that they’re fighting some brutal tyrant in order to free the oppressed peasantry.

  11. Where can I sign it? I’d like nothing better than to kick all that commie scum out of office.

  12. Of course, even if enough people signed the petition and presented it to the government, what guarantee would we have that Red Rachel would comply? After all, she’s treated just about every other due process with complete contempt.

  13. Most of the press has been censoring itself for the last decade. The Wicked Witch of the West is trying to put the icing on the cake.

  14. If the rest of the so-called free press had any principles, they would boycott all NDP lock-ups and media events till this targeting of those who disagree with the government ends.

  15. // The event was for “accredited media only.”
Now Reid never went to journalism school. (Neither did I.) And she has never worked in a formal newsroom. But she used to be part of the Corus radio network’s Hockey Moms panel … //

  16. Take way Ezra and the list of real journalists from Alberta is pretty sparse. Notley sure does a fine goose step.

  17. The institutional left sticks together like flies to shit. The “accredited” media is the NDP in drag, merely pretending to be impartial. The Alberta government needs a gentle reminder that the only alternative to a free press and free speech are much more kinetic activities that, and up until now, are generally confined to third world hell-holes.
If the opposition parties don’t take this up it, they will be complicit.

  18. What!
No recall or referendums in good old Conservative Alberta? None?
Four years(even Albertans aren’t dumb enough to reelect the socialists are they) of love it or lump it? Of no protection from Ottawa Liberals?
No options. Lying politicians. Co-opted media.
And here I thought it was only Maritimers who were voiceless peons.
It appears the Alberta Advantage disappeared quicker than $140 oil, a Liberal promise, the ethics of a Canadian journalist or the chances of a Canadian team winning the Cup.
Maybe you can get some Quebec students to burn some cars for you.
I hear there are lots at the airport.

  19. Agreed. We watch this movie once a year around New Years Day just to remind ourselves of where we would go if the NDP thought they could get away with it. So they are doing it slowly.
By early 1918 the Bolos had banned all opposing newspapers.
John Chittick, exactly and well said. The Global News Wheat Board article shows this up well.

  20. We have pollster Nick Nanos with not much to do taking polls on leadership…and guess what? Trudeau is still trending upwards as the best leader. Never mind the Conservatives have an interim leader and the NDP leader has to survive a leadership vote. Add to that there is no way in hell there’s any chance anyone but the Trudeau Cabal will be attempting to run the country sitting with a majority. They still haven’t done much of anything beyond keeping promises that would be better not kept. This is a testament to the stupidity of the average Canadian voter.

  21. So the NDP government is worried about qualifications!!! Lets have a close look at the qualifications of our newly minted cabinet ministers:
Sarah Hoffman – Minister of Health – a school board trustee, wow, I wonder if she even knows what a balance sheet is or has any clue what a medical procedure is.
Brian Mason – Minister of Transport – a laid off bus driver who went into politics.
Joe Ceci – Minister of Finance – a former social worker and former Calgary alderman. Looks like a real strong accounting background, not!!
Margaret McCuaig-Boyd – Minister of Energy – former school teacher and friend of Notley. We are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel here for talent.
The billion dollar economy of Alberta is being run by a team of circus clowns. Nice job voters!!

  22. “You’re forced to give $35 bucks a year to the CBC …” By my estimate, each “taxpayer” is forced to give about $240/year for the CBC. Yikes. Donation made to The Rebel.

  23. To add insult to the Canadian reality the Alberta government is a perfect match for the Federal Liberal government. Alberta may want to think long and hard next time they engage in protest voting.
Some good should come of this, the ripple effect will present as no money for Equalization for all the provinces high on the environment and low on brain matter.

  24. I phoned her office and complained
Dial 310-0000 then add the number when asked
Works in Alberta not sure about elsewhere
    Legislature Office
    Phone:780.427.2251
    Constituency Office
    Strathcona Professional Centre
    Phone:780.414.0702

  25. Does anyone think that equalization payments has anything to do with equalization? It’s an excuse to give money to the ambitionally challenged, economically crippled, flotsam and jetsam east of the Ottawa River. Quebec could have the highest income in Canada and they will still get their $9 billion. They just have to rewrite the rules.

  26. Liz;
Nanos is a Liebel pollster from years back.
What is particularly galling is the last MacLean’s mag with a puff piece of anti Liebel BS. Yes that mag that was a closet for Liebel activist, amny of which now get paid by the taxpayer.
My only satisfaction is sending their pre-paid subscription envelope back east with a note not to send their BS my way anymore.

  27. A heads-up
Like him or not, Evan Solomon has an afternoon program from 2-6pm Monday-Friday at cfra.com
Today, one of his subjects is The Rebels fight with the Notley Government.

  28. And Peter Mansbridge’s qualifications as a journalist are his work as the official voice on the ‘white zone is for unloading and unloading only’ PA announcements at the Churchill airport.

  29. And in just two sentences, the NP describes TheRebel.ca as both ‘right-wing’ and ‘divisive’.
Apparently they voice support of journalism by damning them with faint praise.

  30. This is actually great, I think.
The Rebel just the best advertising that money could buy. Free of charge.
    Sent the Rebel some $

  31. The good news is that the CBC must also be banned. They are run by Hubey Lacroix who, like, Ezra, is a lawyer.
    From wiki:
Hubert T. Lacroix (born July 13, 1955 [1]) is a Canadian lawyer and the President and CEO of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC)

  32. I notice that the MSM is now following this story. The filing of a lawsuit was a good idea, as it gives the media something tangible to write about.
Could it be that they recognize that an attack on The Rebel is an attack on all media? Has signs of intelligent life been detected in the MSM?
I guess we’ll find out in the next few days.

  33. I am sickened by this, whether or not you agree with any news organization, is not a reason for banning them. I don;t agree with anything about the CBC but yet I am forced to give 35$ of my money to those pricks. Can you imagine if it was a Conservative gov’t banning some organization every left wing organization in Canada and the US would be here reporting live. Now we have the parsing of words used so much by the Ontario Gov’t and watch how it will be used by the Village idiot in Ottawa…..journalist or reporter, come on…….

  34. Indeed Notley is counting on the captive press obeying once again.
For the Presstitutes, one question, “Do you feel the Love?”
Such open contempt for the useful idiots, she knows they will fold and ignore the obvious.
What contempt for the voters;”You get your news only from sources we approve.”
If The Rebel can be banned, who is next?
The classic irony, imagine if a conservative government behaved this way?
How would these very same MSM lapdogs report?
As the Oatmeal Savage said;”Peter Mansbridge told us a fat woman was on a hunger strike. Ezra counted her chins.”
    Which one is the “reporter”?
Our current media institutions are corrupt beyond salvage, Notley knows she can use them as propaganda tools, they sold her people to the voters of Alberta.
The NDP, while leading the polls was neither investigated, fact checked or even casually scrutinized during the provincial election.
The Presstitutes either failed or deliberately ran cover for the clueless, authoritarian klutzes.
The sold an inferior product to the voters, they own it.
    Truth in advertising.

  35. Imagine what would have happened over at Global, CTV and CBC if Harper or Ralph had done what Ms. Notley has done?

  36. and are willingly sacrificing themselves for the glory of the revolution AND stuffing money in their pockets, I am sure.

  37. Just a thought.
If it was a liberal party government in Alberta would this story be getting any traction anywhere?
My suspicion is that the CBC, CTV, and Global have taken an interest in this story as a sort of enemy of my enemy strategy.
If you recall some of those voices decrying this action by Notley are some of the same ones dancing on the grave of SNN.
I can understand if anyone disagrees with this theory, but its rarely that the liberal leaning media passes up a chance to accumulate some political advantage.

  38. Joseph:
I was just thinking the same as I was driving home on this cool Feb. evening.
Levant and his presence on Youtube with the Rebel Media is a thorn in the side of mainstream media. And Levant does know how to twist the knife properly when he goes for the Left jugular!

  39. I’ve often wondered just what all those NDP staffers to that’s worth 6-figure salaries. If they were paid less, would that diminish the quality of the social justice they dispense or something like that?

  40. It is a little-known secret that a lot of oil patch workers were “deemed” to be resident elsewhere than Alberta. Any man (and it was almost exclusively a man) who left the family “down East” to work at Fort Mac and environs was deemed by CRA to be resident in the province where his family still resided. So he paid PEI/NB/NS/Nfld provincial tax, even though he was working in Alberta. Do understand the logic thereof, but the reality was that Alberta had to provide the infrastructure, etc., for these workers while not deriving much of a tax benefit (the clever ones stayed in camps while in Alberta, minimizing their expenses except for bar excursions).
I would really like to know if these guys – now laid off and back home down East – are able to claim EI under down East rules rather than Alberta rules.
