  1. Whence came the idea that we pronounce “about” as “a-boot”?
I never heard a Canadian pronounce it such, and I’ve worked with folks from every Province in this formerly great Dominion.
Only time I’ve ever heard the word pronounced “a-boot” is when talking to a recent immigrant from Scotland.

Justin’s paying it back! What a guy!

  2. Good link. The story about this yesterday implied that it was the old bridge that broke but it was the new bridge. If you have perishables on your truck and no stateside reciprocity running rights you are in deep trouble.
If you can travel stateside and you are going to southern Ontario don’t cross into Canada at The Sault; turn south cross the Mackinac bridge and re-enter Canada at Sarnia. That way is shorter with better road.

  3. Funny comment on the CBC website regarding the Nipigon Bridge failure:
“Tell trudeau ISIS wants to cross it…. It will be up and running in 2 days!!”

  4. From a slogan of a webizon today
“What is the difference between theory and practice?
In theory there is no difference.
I’ll have hopefully find and attribute.

  5. Why isn’t the attack on a Calgary nightclub the number one story across Canada? I have checked a lot of papers and I don’t see it. Even conservative minded Cfra radio in Ottawa doesn’t have it under national news.
This could have resulted in several deaths. Two of the attackers are called Mohamed and one other is still at large.

  6. I’m thinking “conservative minded” Cfra radio in Ottawa is being slowly changed under Bell ownership. It’s going to be a slow creep but it’s on it’s way, crawling along.

“Berlin denies Merkel canceled Davos over Cologne”
“The German government has denied media reports suggesting that Chancellor Angela Merkel has canceled her trip next week to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, due to political pressures at home.
On Sunday, the Financial Times ran a front page story with the headline “Merkel cancels Davos trip as pressure rises over handling of Cologne attacks,” saying that the German Chancellor had canceled her regular trip to the World Economic Forum following the spate of sexual assaults on German women on New Year’s Eve, allegedly carried out by men of Arab or North African origin.
However, the German government denied that she had canceled her trip to Davos as a result, saying she had no plans to attend the summit this year anyway.”

  8. Is conservatism dead in Canada? If so, what/who killed it? The socialist creep through our education systems from Kindergarten to the halls of higher learning, then seeping into every facet of our lives driven by the products of such education environments?
Is this what has given us Justin Trudeau, the least prepared, least fit to serve as PM in our history?
BTW, today is the still beloved Jean Chretien’s birthday. Adscam? What Adscam?

  9. I enjoy Bowie’s music, but I believe Johnson, as usual, is off by an octave and a half.
“London Mayor Boris Johnson added: “Terrible news to hear Brixton born David Bowie has died. No one in our age has better deserved to be called a genius.”

  10. AGW RIP.

  11. “George Jonas has passed away”
I know that most will be discussing Bowie today but I for one will miss this man’s articles. I’ve been wondering why I hadn’t heard anything from him in the past few months as there was surely many topics for him to address. I went to his web site a few weeks ago and saw that he hadn’t written in some time.
    RIP Mr. Jonas

“A group of Pakistanis and a Syrian were attacked in Cologne amid tensions over New Year’s Eve assaults in the city that have been blamed largely on foreigners, police said Monday.
Six Pakistani nationals were attacked Sunday by a group of around 20 people and two of them were briefly admitted to a hospital, police said. Also Sunday evening, a Syrian man was attacked by five people. He was injured but didn’t need treatment.”

  13. George Jonas in his book “Reflections on Islam: Ideas, Opinions, Arguments”
“The actual leaders of Islam remained curiously quiet. Aside from some obligatory condemnation of terrorism-usually coupled with an admonition that the West should give more support to Muslim countries and less to Israel-they said little. We rarely heard Muslims in the West pledging loyalty to the countries in which they lived, but much from President Bush and other Western heads of state announcing their loyalty to their countries’ Muslim residents. In fact, our leaders made such a fuss that a Martian landing on Earth on September 12 might have thought that what happened in New York and Washington the day before wasn’t Muslim terrorists massacring three thousand Americans, but American terrorists massacring three thousand Muslims.”

  14. I think we know why this will be covered up. The how it will be covered up is by not mentioning the names of the two that were caught. The CKOM 650 radio news station news item mentioned no names and said there was no known reason.

  15. This incident not being reported is outrageous. Isn’t this similar to the Attack in San Bernardino — Muslims with guns attempting to shoot people? If no one died in the Calgary attack, that is thanks to the bouncers, but it is a terrorist attack, just the same. Interestingly the pepper spray incident was given excessive coverage. Who is setting priorities for reporting news these days? Or,have we decided that only attacks on refugees are newsworthy, not stacks by refugees.

  16. Interesting. They seem to have realized they do not know why they are in investigating. In the end it will be a bit awkward to have to identify all these aboriginal men as murderers. Another example of Liberal grand standing before thinking.

  17. Wow the Detroit: “60 Detroit schools close for sick teachers on the day Bowie dies.
Sounds like a “Panic in Detroit” for sure.” The article.
