  1. Sadly the National Post is slipping into tablod sensationalism.
    http://news.nationalpost.com/full-comment/joe-oconnor-the-war-on-shinny-rinks
Joe Conner misleads readers thinking Edmonton shut down a cute families going for a skate at the local pond.
The real story (having talked with their neighbour) is the ‘pond’ is a Natural Wildlife preserve, with a 5′ chain link fence around it, and signage about danger thin ice due to weeds and such thinning the ice.
The father has a gate in the fence (legal or not) and decided to clear the snow and flood it to level the ice out.
Thereby trespassing, putting city water into a natural preserve and they were fined $100 by a Park Ranger because this falls under Alberta Government jurisdiction (even if it is in Edmonton).
Sadly a lot of posters are all over the place in the National Post as well as the Edmonton Journal how horrible things are for kids and such totally missing the point the parents screwed up.
Oh and the mother wants to challenge the $100 fine in court now.
Seriously people can’t think past their noses and simply dig for truth on a matter.
Teaches me for reading Newspapers, this alone has put me off the National Post now.

  2. “Alberta town may soon fulfill oil ambitions with planned loading facility”
“The small Alberta town that was planned to be the starting point for the Keystone XL pipeline could soon host one of Canada’s largest oil-by-rail loading facilities.
A massive complex of crude oil storage tanks dominates the horizon around the quiet Alberta farming town of Hardisty. Despite a collapse in energy prices, hulking new tanks are under construction as more of the province’s crude continues to pour through pipelines into the tank farm, helping transform Hardisty into Western Canada’s benchmark oil hub.”

  3. mazz….I said once before that we will have a rolling pipeline all across Canada. it will be continuous from the oil fields to the refineries. you should see the length of the tanker trains running across ontario. They are so long that another diesel is required in the centre of the train as an additional push pull so the train can travel.

  4. In the mean time, Trans Canada is suing the Obama administration over the Keystone decision.

  5. The Justine government = the Harper government?

  6. This has to be the most blatant display of over-sell and bullsh*t so far this new year. The little shit AKA Justin Truedope, has done NOTHING so far and he is to be compared to a man who held Canada on his shoulders for the last ten years. It’s shameful, but liberal cannot experience shame … like the psychopaths that they are. Can a Nobel Peace Prize be next? Place your bets.
Truedope = Mr. Wonderful Mr. Harper = Blue Meanie

  7. Pete McMartin is a well-known NDPGreenie who ALWAYS takes the extreme views. In this article, without outright stating it, he wants MOAR social services, MOAR Insite facilities, etc, because institutionalizing is “so bad”.
He’s all Poverty Pimp, ALL the time.
The DTES is a hellhole, and has been for over 40+ years. A documentary was made in the early 70s about Whistling Bernie Smith, a Van City beat cop, who patrolled the DTES. Eye opening, the problem existed back then, but has multiplied a lot ever since.
Fix #1, send the natives back to the reserve, where the NATION can look after them, after all, the NATION is being paid for that skinbag.
    Uh oh, that so RACISSSSSSSSSSSSSS

  8. Kate: A “natural wildlife preserve” with a 5′ fence around it? That’s more absurd than the fine.
    – well not when it is within city boundaries. Trying to protect natural habitat from dogs, kids and adults who don’t know better than to flood with with city water.
Kinda surprised Kate you would say it is absurd.

  12. Hardly. The recent Conservative government had someone capable at the helm. No one has any idea who is running things under the Liberals — and their skating around on all kinds of issues, plus breaking promises makes it clear that no one knows what they stand for either — oops . . . except, as always, they protect the interests of their special interest groups (unions, Natives, Muslims, etc.)

“This just keeps getting better and better. The sheeple are going to have to stay up late tonite to blame this development on Harper. Deepen ties with Saudi Arabia, comedy gold Jerry, comedy gold!!!”
“Comical actually…so, this is the same PM who wants the Pope to apologize to our First Nations for human rights violations, meanwhile, and at the same time, he’s being advised to get into bed with that bastion country of human rights… Saudi Arabia. I guess that makes sense if you’re from Bizarro World.”
“Good gravy. These government “advisers” are well and truly insane. If Trudeau follows their “advice” he’s even more insane than they are.”
“Why would Canada want ANYTHING to do with Saudi Arabia after it bombed another nations embassy? Isn`t Saudi Arabia where ISIS comes from? Who is this “Prime Minister,” or “our,”? and what lead him to decide to make friends with a backward nation like Saudi Arabia?”

  15. Fresh from the WTF pages of the nanny state: According to a manager at the local Safeway store here in Ontario, they are asking for ID on everyone purchasing beer at the store. They were just being prudent because Ontario is supposed to introduce legislation to demand ID from everyone wherever alcohol is sold. The government of Ontario has recently progressed from the dark ages and allowed select grocery stores to sell beer in a limited capacity.
I guess the biggest kicker is that I am over 60 years old! They need to see ID and enter something into the cash register(supposedly only my DOB) or have the manager come over to override the till. This nanny state is getting too carried away. It will be only a matter of time before I will have to apply for a Beer Possession Certificate.
