Electronic Nicotine saves lives.

Britain’s drug regulators have given the go-ahead for a British American Tobacco electronic-cigarette vaping device to be sold as a quit smoking medicine, the first such product to be given a drug license in the UK.
This while more and more jurisdictions in Canada are swayed by uninformed fears of nicotine (as opposed to smoke) and the professional shysters representing the anti-smoking zealots. Looking at you City of Saskatoon council.
One might come to the conclusion that the Canadian jurisdictions want smokers to die, instead of helping them break the smoking habit.

  1. Our leftist local activist politicos want us to believe that vaping “teaches” kids to smoke.
It boggles the mind……..so they ban it too, despite ZERO evidence of such.
Another falacy is that thekids can vape dope in the device……(facepalm)

  2. *
so, taxpayer susbsidised methadone & heroin for junkies
but helping joe schmuck (who pays the bill btw) kick tobacco
    is a non-starter?

  3. “Another falacy is that thekids can vape dope in the device……(facepalm)”
Considering that there are electronic vaporizers specially made for cannabis and hashish, that do look similar to e-cigarettes, I am willing to give them a bit of a by on this point. It also goes to show how much education they have done for themselves, or lack thereof, before passing such draconian regulations.

  4. What I find interesting in all the anti-smoking zealotry is the absolute silence on legalizing marijuana. Surely smoking weed is as carcinogenic as smoking tobacco?
    Silly me! I forgot!
Smoking pot is a fashionable cause; smoking tobacco is an unfashionable one.

  5. Vaping/e-cigarettes is to smoking as 3rd party insurance is to WCB. Neither has a big impact on the governments general revenue.
Never have I ever felt that our government wished for smokers to quit.

  6. They’re going to smoke/eat/inhale dope anyways. Its a weak argument to ban vaping, its the elephant gun approach to killing a mosquito

  7. I think they’re afraid of losing the tax revenue at least at the federal and provincial level. The municipal governments are just generally filled with complete wackjobs.

  8. Ok who loses the most when E-cigs replace regular cigs? Tobacco manufacturers? Government? Or could it be big pharma peddling smoking cessation drugs that do not work but that people who are hoping to quit smoking are desperately hoping it will work. And they try, and then they go back to smoking, and they buy more drugs again, patches, gum etc, none of it works which is why they make a perfect snake oil, lucrative to the peddler and useless to the consumer. So when the consumer finds an alternative that works … you get the picture.

  9. a bunch of jeezus freeks need the government to help them quit??? Holy lordy lord.
Lance, just put the damn things down, period. Vaping is just like an excuse!!!

  10. The progressive mentality accepts that marijuana will be legalized and believes that governments will collect vast amounts of tax revenue in the process and that through the magic of regulation all will be well. E-cigarettes, on the other hand are seen as corporately created devices of death and destruction and can’t lead to anything positive. The reality of course, is that government greed and regulatory obsession will guarantee that most marijuana production and consumption will occur through a continued black market and in the case of their e-cigarette bans, people will die as a result of this banned safer alternative to smoking.

  11. Banning vaping in public places, especially outdoor areas just reinforces the fact that the entire anti-smoking hysteria is not and never was about health. These draconian measures reek of control urges, nanny statism and the overpowering desire to appear “progressive”. If governments wish to enact bans, regardless of the nature of the offending substance or practice, then they should, at the very least, do their homework and offer proof that the ban is necessary.
It’s no big surprise to learn that the Saskatoon ban was spearheaded by none other than Pat Lorje, the queen of busybodies and chief minder of others’ business.
The E-cigarette industry has some mighty formidable opponents lined up against them. Big government, big tobacco and big pharma have access to obscene amounts of cash to use in the battle. Timid politicans, easily cowed by anti-smoking zealots seem to be the norm these days.
From a personal standpoint, I went from two packs a day down to zero almost a year ago and I attribute my success not to willpower or strength of character or any other such admirable traits. My success is due entirely to E-cigarettes. Of that I am positive.

  12. There is a school of thought that says a lot of people who smoke tobacco are self medicating for psychiatric conditions. This could be true. There are huge numbers of people on some form of psych drugs. I bet that this correlates with fewer people smoking tobacco. Are there people now taking anti depression and anti anxiety drugs who would have just smoke tobacco in the past? I don’t know, but if we can make a case for medical marijuana I bet we can make an equally compelling case for medical tobacco.

  13. There are so many reasons to quit smoking. To whine about where one can vape sounds like an excuse being offered to justify continuing a nicotine addiction.
Oh and vaping looks really stupid too. Makes you look like an even bigger loser than a smoker. “I’m not man enough to quit tobacco for real so I am sucking on this e-cigarette thingy”. Totally uncool.

  15. Frankly, I quit cold turkey. Never looked back. It’s been over 15 years. On the very few occasions that I did light up, early post quitting, I couldn’t stand the smell, or the taste. Slapped myself on the back & gained 30 pounds! Working on that.

  16. Civil disorder, tell them all to mind their own business unless they can prove there is a harm being done.
Vape in a bar or restaurant, get kicked out, over and over. Business owners will go after the law makers when they see this.
    Educate the ignorant.
Don’t give in, that’s what they are used to because they could hold up “studies” that said smoking was harmful. Well vaping is not.
Put the busy bodies on notice. Their day is done.
    There are no “studies”.
    Tell them to —- off.
Don’t be sheep. That’s their power base.
Take back your freedom from these tyrants.

  17. @PO’ed in AB
I quit cold turkey too after a few attempts.
Been at least 6 years, not sure, maybe 7.
    My wife still smokes, sooooooo….
my smoking dollars still exist while she smokes to the tune of a conservative $300.00 per month, I have a complete woodworking shop built up. Good quality high end machinery. Make just about anything and I use it.
Now that that’s pretty well done, it looks like my next endeavor will be building a gun collection, nothing serious, maybe a Ruger 10/22, Remington 870 varient, good bolt action rifles in a couple of calibers, an AR15, 9MM semi auto handgun, who knows. Definitely a 1911 varient in 45ACP. Picked up an SKS in good shape on Boxing Day, should be a good plinker.
My wife can smoke as long as she wants. Pays for the ammo.

  18. Call it whining. Call it an excuse. Call it uncool. Call it whatever you please. I know that I am saving just over $750 a month by using an E-cigarette instead of smoking. I still enjoy the smell of burning tobacco so I haven’t morphed into one of those anal retentive, snivelling, self-righteous ex-smokers, terrified of second-hand smoke.
Oh yeah …. and kicking the nicotine habit altogether is not a measure of one’s manliness by any standards.

  19. My wife still “smokes”, as in the patch. It’s cheap, less than $150 a month. I bought a lot of quality furniture to replace the crap I used to have, 1 1/2 trucks & probably a good chunk of the equity in our house with what I saved. I eat & drink well, too, which will probably kill me in the end. I used to sell investment products to people who smoked & claimed they didn’t have any spare change to invest. I had an Excel program that convinced a few that quitting smoking was in their best interests & the dividends could probably cover a serious cigar habit down the road if they felt so inclined.
What really bothers me about the anti smoking nuts are civil authorities disproportionate penalties for smoking, like $2000 caught smoking inside a mall, up here in Canaduh. I could run a few stop signs & still be ahead on fines, maybe even run over someone I didn’t like for my troubles & still be in the green. Just sayin’.

  20. I couldn’t give a shit what judgements others may make regarding e-cigs… Government on the other hand is simply continuing with its “progressive” crusade of controlling everyone and everything all the time, such is the nature of “progressivism”, oh yeah the Gubmint also really really likes those cigarette taxes eh. For me its been over a year since my last cig, couldn’t have done it without e-cigs. Glad I quit when I did, before the “progressives” decided that there were still some individuals out there doing something that the progs don’t control and therefore must be stopped. Still love the smell of cigs though mmmmmm cigs… Oh yeah, I smoke my e-cig wherever the f##k I want too, great for when beer and or alcohol is necessary, most people couldn’t care less when I have a couple of puffs mainly because they have their own lives to live and their own booze. I recommend the E-Roll type e-cig, they look like real smokes, all the affectations of smoking while lowering your nicotine intake on your own time. Worked like a charm… the fact Progs hate the freedom e-cigs allow is simply a bonus. Glad to know that at least some medical professionals see the usefulness in a device that actually works.

  21. “The reality of course, is that government greed and regulatory obsession will guarantee that most marijuana production and consumption will occur through a continued black market…”
I couldn’t agree more and I’m not sure the potheads have realized this yet. Nothing guarantees “bootleg weed” quite like government over-regulation and taxation.

  22. Call me crazy but while I don’t care much what other people do, I think if smokers have to go outside then vaping should be done outside, as well.

  23. So, if smokers were to be lined up for the firing squad, vapers should be too.
How about this?:The owner of the property can decide what people on hios property can do, and one can do anything that is not criminal outside on public property?

  24. “Please explain why TBall !”
I too would like to see the explanation for putting tobacco smokers and E-cigarette users in the same category. If I’ve ever seen a good case of comparing apples and oranges, this is it.

  25. There is no logical reason e cigarettes should be banned anywhere. Of course you would never convince the anti smoking nazis for 2 simple reasons. 1. You are enjoying something without their approval. 2. It looks like you are smoking without their approval. As professional busybodies, that just drives them nuts.
