There are some key issues involved in door opening that perhaps should be mentioned, including
(1) To ensure success, check that it is a door and not a wall feature or window that you are trying to open,
(2) if the door is opening toward you, ensure your foot is not blocking it when you pull,
(3) if the door is opening away from you, ensure you do not lose your balance in pushing it open,
(4) when pushing a door open, it would be useful to call out with your voice in case someone is too close to the other sde of the door. In calling out, be careful not to use phrases that may be considered as hate speech. A suggested vocabulary for this purpose would include “Yoo Hoo!”, “Coming Your Way!” or perhaps “Chicken about to cross the Road!”.
It may take some work, but surely this instruction document can be turned into a 500-page manual appropriate to any government effort.
It’s the Department of Energy and Climate Change.
That alone should tell you that they might not have the smarts to open a door.
This type of idiocy is rampant in any organization that has too many “administrators”. It wouldn’t surprise me if Interior Health would republish this as they are all about “safety”. Of course, in any snivel servant organization getting bumped by a door is probably good for a year or two of medical disability and trauma counselling.
If Interior Health finds out about this “safety issue” one can expect the creation of a door safety officer position in each hospital and a requirement to undergo a yearly safe door opening assessment as part of physician hospital privilege renewal.
Nothing new about this. Several years ago a 23 story federal government building in Ottawa, has stickers attached to bathroom doors saying “Open door slowly”.This along with the usual sign to be sure to wash your hands. Presumably every federal building would be similarly affected and someone from Public Works would be paid a handsome hourly rate to affix the stickers. As to the reason behind the reminder, Who knows, just more safety hand wringing from your federal government.
The military was infamous for this type of thing, as is any bureaucracy that has massive numbers of employees sitting around trying to justify their jobs.
We’re all going to be paying taxes to support this class, while the rest of us see our freedom and wealth squandered to keep this important voting block in clover.
The list is incomplete for this dept…
Addendum:
1) Be sure the door wants to open. Just grabbing the door handle is an aggression, causing the door to refuse to co-operate.
2) Approach the door with soft, dulcet tones (British door, after all). Micro-aggression is as serious a problem as the more violent kind.
3)If the door is locked, you’ll need an explicit consent. No means no. It may take some counselling and peer persuasion to convince the door that you are a safe operator.
4) Have respect whether the door opens to the left or the right. For that matter, if the door is of colour, try not to show favouritism as to which hand or foot you lead through the door. Doors are inclusive, and require that you observe the sensitivity. If its a green door, use as little force as necessary to open and close the door.
5)Having been allowed to successfully pass through the door, reward the behavior with a gentle closing. Slamming the door is unacceptable behavior and may cause the door distress. Equally, using your hand, rather than the knob, to open the door is micro-aggressive. Do not touch the door inappropriately.
6)If the door has only been recently installed, check to see if its a local door, or one that has been salvaged from another building. Re-situated doors may take some time to adapt to their new surroundings, and may not readily adopt to unfamiliar customary procedures for opening and closing. Remember, the door likely didn’t have a choice about its new home.
(7) When approaching an unfamiliar door, take a moment to ascertain if the door swings both ways. You wouldn’t want to create an embarrassing moment by making the wrong assumption about which way the door goes.
The classic taxpayers lament.
People too stupid to open a door are entrusted with power over me.
And they relentlessly seek greater power and control over my life. For my own good of course.
Being so staggeringly stupid that they believe in their own benevolence.
Only a suicide chump lives to reward the parasites hanging off of them.
We are living the top of the cycle, government so dumb, they believe they can orchestrate the “New energy”.”Create productive Jobs”.
Implicitly claiming credit to the bureaus for the Industrial Revolution.
“viewing panel” because window is racist?
Just one more door instruction for 3/4 of them would be a start.
You’re fired don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out .”
And why was this not written in both official languages?
Reminds me of the Big Blue Government of Ontario signs on some of our 2 lane highways:
‘CAN”T SEE?? DON”T PASS’
Our washroom mirrors at work have the following sticker attached. “This person is responsible for your safety!”
Nice to know the guy looking out for me is a little a$$hole.
You’ve all missed the big story here:
The Department of Energy and Climate Change has ………. 2,400 employees.
Doing …….. what!?!?
Last year the institution I work for issued instructions on how to use stairs.
“The Department of Energy and Climate Change …”
Yeah sorry I am stuck here, everything else appears to be a logical consequence. So door knobs have problems with operating door knobs. A scary thins is that the more time they spent struggling pushing while reading a sign that says “pull” the better. Do we really want them to be competent?
ban evil doors
