  1. Well, this is interesting. I thought the refugees coming in were supposed to be Muslim, but here is a note from an article in the Toronto Star:
“But the non-profit group, which was founded by two Syrians and three Quebecers, has also decided to throw an early Christmas party next week for those remaking their lives in the province.”
    http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2015/12/12/syrian-refugees-prepare-for-new-life-in-quebec.html
I can’t help but think that we are being manipulated by all this feel-good publicity.

  2. I spent the day reminiscing back to the late 1940’s.. Fixed our old family Radio; Marconi Battery (1937) that hasn’t worked for 65 years. Every noon hour “Jake & the Kid” and “Mail Bag” Moose Jaw blasted into Saskatchewan…Hockey by foster Hewitt…A simpler time

NOTE: Wikipedia has wrong date, Jake originally began in 1948.. W.o. Mitchell

  3. Your post reminded me of the book ‘Butter Down the Well’ by Robert Collins so I searched that title and was amazed at how many copies of that book are available in various e-book versions at very low prices.
No wonder used book stores are closing everywhere. A bit sad but I quess that’s progress.

  4. I had one of those radios with a B battery in it working till about 1968. A huge brick of a thing, seems to me it had screws to connect the posts. The radio was 2/3 battery and brownish purple bakelight

  5. Favourite Christmas Carole? My annual push for the original Canadian carole The Huron Carole which seems to be sung less and less in concerts, schools and on the radio. No link as typing on my phone, but google Tom Jackson version.
Lyrics composed by Jesuit missionary Jean de Brebeuf who was eventually martyred by the Iroquois in 1649. Lyrics in English, French and Huron. Elite private college in Quebec where Pierre Trudeau among others went named after him.

  6. That should read favourite Christmas Carol, but Huron Carole or Carol. The Huron Carole show organized by Tom Jackson which collects funds for food banks around Christmas no longer comes to Montreal unfortunately. Another good version of the song on YouTube is that of the Elora (Ontario) Festival singers.

  7. AGW RIP.
Ding, dong, the AGWizard is dead!.
“The essence of this vision goes back to Maurice Strong’s Rio “Earth Summit” in 1992, which first laid down the principle that it was the duty of “developed” countries, those which caused global warming in the first place, not only to make drastic changes in their own way of life but also to pay for poorer nations to catch up with them.”

“Eighth graders Tessa Hill and Lia Valente — thanks to a petition they started as a class project — ended up at the podium with Wynne pushing for the end of “rape culture” by bringing in a “consent culture.” It was bizarre.
What the heck were they doing there? Imagine if Prime Minister Stephen Harper pulled something like that?”

this is old news… i remember the late jack layton doing courageous undercover work at the “velvet touch” shiatsu institute in toronto’s toney chinatown.

  11. We’re being taken for idiots by the battlers of climate change? OTOH, statist warmist politicians are the stupid ones, at least when it comes to science and economics, but we are idiots for voting for them in sufficient numbers to allow them to lord over us, our wallets and our freedom. Even for those who disagree, there’s enough complacency, looking the other way, & avoiding arguments for our culpability, though not as acute as the LIVs and the rent seekers who prey on them:
“Unfortunately, like a lot of government agencies, the Met Office has been hijacked by green ideologues who want us to believe that climate change is the greatest threat of our age. It suits their agenda to link topical disasters such as the Cumbrian floods to their pet theory – especially when the UN’s COP21 climate summit in Paris is reaching its climax.”

“The ‘Binding’ Paris treaty is now just voluntary mush”
“Thus, in the end, what we apparently got out of Paris is voluntary emission caps, voluntary progress reviews, no international oversight of any voluntary progress, and voluntary contributions to the Fund.
Of course, the entire climate cataclysm mantra is based on the claim that carbon dioxide has replaced the solar and other powerful natural forces that have driven climate change throughout Earth and human history. Now, merely tweaking CO2 emissions will supposedly stabilize climate and weather systems.
President Obama fervently believes this delusion.”

  14. proof that strategic voting works:
    http://www.thestar.com/news/world/2015/12/13/french-right-wing-party-faces-tough-second-round-election-race.html
it worked against Stephen Harper, the PM who REFUSED to conduct 1st ministers’ meeting because he couldn’t control them, fire them, shove them out of his cabinet, etc.
one of the reasons HE got shoved out of office. I suspect another is the drive to put all Canada Post deliveries into community mailboxes.
duhhhh, uhhhhh, duhhhh, ’tis a crown corporation, we gots no authority to influence the decisions. duhhhh.
oh really? the OWNERS of a corporation don’t put *their* reps on the board?
