The media didn’t make Trump. So, little hint, you media people: You can’t take him out.

I find the best way to read Rush is to imagine him speaking it on his show (it is a transcript) but if you are familiar with his show, you will understand where the emphasis is.

I like Cruz, a lot. However, he has a huge problem. You’re from Calgary; so is he. He was born there, to an American mother and a Cuban father. He was thus born with triple citizenship, and although he renounced his Canadian citizenship five years ago, he has yet to renounce his Cuban citizenship.
The President must be a “natural-born citizen”. It’s right there in the constitution. He isn’t eligible to run, and if he does become the Republican nominee, then low-info voters will find out that he is not a natural-born citizen about a year and two days from today, as the Huffington Post, Kos, ABCNNBCBS and the New York Times all breathlessly raise questions about his eligibility next November 1, a few days before the election. What, after covering for Obama you think the Democrat press will play fair?

Ted Cruz’s mother is an American citizen born and raised. Ted Cruz was born of a natural born citizen. That makes Ted Cruz a natural born citizen regardless of where he happened to be at the moment of his birth. Most legal scholars agree on that point. Ted Cruz’s father is a naturalized American citizen. He was born in Cuba and became an American citizen. So Ted Cruz has two American parents.
Now before people start trying to site court cases to prove their point, understand that they can counteract those court cases with other court cases and on and on and on. Round round we go.
However I would like to point out that when the founding fathers wrote “natural born citizen” they didn’t exactly specify what was required to be a natural born citizen.
It’s a stupid law anyway and should be changed to just American citizen.

Ted Cruz’s father didn’t renounce his Cuban citizenship and become an American until 2005, long after Cruz was born. Raphael Cruz fought *for* Castro in the Cuban revolution. And Ted Cruz still has not renounced his Cuban citizenship.
The “natural born” clause is there for a reason. The President should only be loyal to his own country, and not have citizenship in other countries. It should be clear where his priorities lie. There is no way to make someone born with triple citizenship, someone who has yet to renounce his citizenship in Cuba, fit into the definition of “natural born citizen”.
And no, he is not eligible to run for VP either, because the VP has to have the same qualifications as the President – the VP needs to take over if the President dies in office.
It doesn’t matter how much conservatives might wish it to be so. Cruz is ineligible to run for President, full stop.

I would like to point out that Ted and family moved back to the US when he was four and his American citizenship was declared and accepted.

By your standards then many of the people who were president and who ran for president wouldn’t eligible. For you place of birth overrides everything, even who you were born from. The constitution does not state that.

So he’s an American citizen because he has an American mother, but he’s not a Cuban citizen even though he has a Cuban father and carries his father’s name?
