Though O’Sullivan has vowed to spend donors’ hard-earned money to save animals and nature, he has at times used charity coffers as a personal piggy bank, a Star investigation has found.
His organization — comprising four charities under O’Sullivan’s control that collected $9 million in donations in 15 years — continues to operate under the nose of the federal regulator that has been trying to shut it down.
O’Sullivan, executive director and CEO of the Humane Society of Canada for the Protection of Animals and the Environment has successfully stopped Canada’s tax watchdog from closing the charity he’s run for 23 years, despite a federal audit that revealed “serious and intentional” spending breaches. The other charities are the Ark Angel Fund, the Ark Angel Foundation and the Humane Society Foundation.

Items O’Sullivan claimed in 2006 as legitimate charity expenses included: $27,000 in superhero-themed comic books and related paraphernalia; $22,000 in meals eaten mainly in Toronto, $4,000 from Costco; $1,800 in LCBO items; movie tickets for the Beaches Cinemas in Toronto; theatre tickets in London, England; a $67 purchase at La Senza Girl lingerie store and O’Sullivan family expenses of about $4,000 for a California trip.

This is why “united way” should be on your boycott list. All the charities that feed on your donation are fronts for Marxist extremist activism.
Now the Libranos have seized control, this type of criminality will be common place with no hope of police or judicial intervention.
The “United Way” has not been on my list for decades. I choose the charities I donate to carefully after investigation. If it even has a slight odor of political activism or connection with same I shun it.
This character even sucked in PM Harper.
The HSUS has also lost its way with idiots like Wayne Pacelli turning into just another radical animal rights front group like PETA who spend their money on propeganda aimed at school kids or to have their members run around either naked or dressed as chickens, pigs, cows, ears of corn, carrots or fish and no doupt the United Way donates to many radical groups
Anyone know if there’s a watchdog organization, specifically identifying and listing those so-called charities with activist parameters…along with the breakdown of spending/admin costs versus actual charity provisions? It would be good to be able to reference a no-go list, neatly laid out for the kindred of mind.
Liberal times are lawless times – I wish you luck but you must be an optimist to believe one Liberal-infiltrated “watchdog” or even the CCRA will go after a fellow traveller.
Looks like Mr Sullivan treats himself very humanely.
How does he differ from the ex mayor,ex Cabinet minister(Liberal) whose “family run” charity netted them .. what? $8million and still he charged the taxpayer for his spawns wedding.
But I am sure if Mr Sullivan has kept the right donations up, he will have no further legal problems, as he is a natural for the Entitlement Party.
What I always find remarkable about these scandals is not that they stole money. It is how -little- they stole. All up, we’re talking about $50k here.
One would hope the government is pursuing this guy, at a cost of millions in court costs etc. because he stole more than $50k.
I give money to the Canadian Warplane Heritage. I get to see my money every time they fly something interesting over the house.
With a couple of exceptions I no longer give to charities. I’m fortunate to be able to involve myself directly in charitable projects in the third world delivering services one on one to the needy on my own dime. I simply don’t have the resources needed to do the background checks on these other charlatans and con men.
Who in hell does this guy think he is? An Indian Chief, or a Senator, or somebody like that?
True, but the only “going after” I’d been contemplating was to dissuade like-minded individuals from donating to charities that don’t meet a certain criteria, having a dubious agenda or paying their administrators too generously. Of course I’ve looked around on line finding overrated reviews on the usual suspects ie United Way etc. The rating may reflect a higher charity to admin ratio, but beyond that, nada.
I put down my nine year old Jack Russell because I couldn’t afford the treatment she needed. She may have not had much more time even with the treatment. I would happily have traded one more year with my best friend in exchange for putting a bullet in O’Sullivan’s forehead.
“His lawyer…has also said that O’Sullivan is so devoted to the cause that he has personally paid for items such as the charity’s own bank interest expenses.” Why would there be any “bank interest expenses” unless there were substantial expenses that exceeded the moneys raised, forcing the charity to borrow funds. Which raises a whole host of red flags, particularly when some of the expenses are detailed.
PETA is about the same make people donate to what they thinks a good cuase and end up using all the money for political gain and propeganda
