Quit Yer Whining

Canada’s longest campaign season in recent history will conclude Monday night, much to the delight of politics-weary citizens and even wearier political journalists.
“It’s been a long, endless 11 weeks,” said Gloria Galloway, a veteran political reporter for the Globe and Mail, based in Toronto.
Wait, what? Eleven weeks?

  1. I look at the red map of Quebec and have to logically assume these ridings were delivered by fixers who will now be lining up for Liberal brown envelopes – any bets on how long it will be before we see Adscam 2.0?
Ontario is double screwed now the public sector unions own it though 2 levels of wholly owned union assets (Lib regimes)- and they have their brethren in the police unions and Lib prosecutors office jailing any dissent to the now open plunder of what is left of that husk of an economy.

  2. If the folks from the Merry-times and Newfie-land expect to get anything from the welfare teat, they should remember that Alberta’s transfer payments will probably dry up in a year or two as it turns into a Have-Notley province.

  3. Well Oz, maybe I’ll feel differently later. Here in Ontario, however, where the electorate have elected the ‘Looting’ party four times in a row, despite clear evidence of massive corruption and failure, I have little hope right now. It should not be hard to show people how liberty, via less government involvement in their lives and lower taxes, is better than massive debt and government dependency. Given the even small but important changes the Harper government made like repealing section 13 of the CHRA, dismantling the gun registry, support for Israel, exiting Kyoto, cutting some taxes for productive Canadians, etc, one would think that Canadians would see the benefits of conservatism and that they really don’t need to depend on the state. We see tonight that this is not the case and that many of the reforms that were implemented are to be overturned again (by popular vote).
You can reason with a person looking for a better way but for a people eternally wanting to latch on to the state teat I do not see an answer right now.

  4. The Conservatives are back to their core support while the mushy middle have returned to the Liberals, leaving the NDP in droves. As Occam said, the Party can now refresh. Conservatives make lousy progressives and they just can’t compete with real ones. Time to bring back some libertarian influence. Lets see how the markets react tomorrow.

  5. Trudeau has been talking for 15 minutes and hasn’t said a damn thing. But he has dropped from leading in 188 seats to leading in 183. If he goes on much longer he’ll have a minority. Keep talking you idiot.

  6. Thanks for that Oz. Although it is too late for one item, as I am so upset that the Laurention Elite from Central Canada won that I threw something in the garbage.
Ibbitson of the Globe did not know what he was talking about when he wrote a book about the Laurentian Elite losing their grip on the hinterland, as they were big winners tonight.

  7. I’m sure we’ll hear at any moment how 60% of voters didn’t vote for Liberals. What? Oh…

  8. Take heart, Zeppo. There is no profit in despairing. We all live and we all die. It’s about how you choose to live more than anything else, that is where the riches of having lived lie.
Honor yourself, hold to your values, your principles, cherish the people and things that you hold dear.
“Here I stand, I can do no other.”

Do not despair. Don’t quit. Surely you love and have those who love you.
Take comfort in your blessings, they must be many, we are Canadians.
Trust in God, pray for wisdom.

  9. Seems like a good time to replay Eddie Lawrence: (Thanks again, EBD)

We had 10 years of very good governance by Prime Minister Harper who worked so hard constantly under the most trying conditions. We were treated like responsible adults, and expected to act as such. Unfortunately Canadians seem to prefer being stroked and baby-talked, spoon fed so we have voted for change. Sigh.
Tonight, as always, Mr. Harper was a statesman and gentleman in his speech. I have never been so proud of our country as when he was P.M. and hope he will stay on as Leader of the Opposition. He and his family deserve our gratitude.
Now we must return to being treated like trailer trash children by our elected know-it-alls.

  10. BC, apparently. Don’t know how, though. With legalized MaryJane, I suspect that production in the hinterlands will ramp up and BC will live it’s dream…a narco state.
